Where are good places to advertise new mods?

Post » Fri Dec 03, 2010 7:31 am

Hello all! If you've been on this board a while you've probably noticed me post 2 or 3 other topics on a mod I'm currently developing. As this is my first mod, I got to wondering--what should one do when they're releasing a brand new mod? Just post it on TESNexus etc., are are there places that modders typically advertise it? Just curious.

Thanks in advance!

PS I'm always open to suggestions or help on how to improve this mod...My ultimate goal is to make it fun, challenging, and immersive enough that a majority of all players would enjoy using it.

TESNexus and PES are the biggest sites. Having it at those site's will give it the most exposure. If it is a quest mod or something, you can also link promotional videos. There are uploads at TESNexus that are only promos or trailers. Authors may post those before (or even after) the release of a mod. At TESNexus, all image uploads and updates have separate entries on the main download pages, so there is much opportunity to have the page's name appear on the "front" pages.

The main place that i find mods is from people posting them on this board. Otherwise, I'm afraid |'m of no help :)

A well made WIPz or RELz thread here sure helps gaining interrest for a mod. But eventually the mod has to advertise itself by being of good quality and interresting. It should basically "sell" itself. Some people whine if their mod has "only 100 downloads". Just imagine a room filled with 100 PC's and 100 people and suddenly 100 doesn't seem that small anymore! :P

I'll imagine that when I feel like my CPU is ready to retire...for good. :P

Yes, right here. Just post a thread detailing what your mod is all about and provide a link to where it can be downloaded. People typically start announcement threads with [Relz] before the mod title.

Word of mouth seems to work best, especially given all the topics where people as "What mods should I use?" but it might be pretty hard to get a mod on the list of recommendations people regularly give out.

Maybe make a http://www.moddb.com/ page and make a news post about the release that is worthy of making it on the front page of the site. That way you might get a few users that don't really keep track of these forums and download sites.

Thanks for the advice! I'll go ahead and post a [WIPz] thread for this mod since it's still a work in progress. That way I won't pepper this forum with a new thread every time I need a little help.
I'll have to look into ModDB too, thanks for the tip!
