Where are the cute girls with big guns?

As a kick butt female gamer, I commend you on this awesome game. I think it is a revolution in of itself as far as games are concerned.

Complaint - where are the female character builds????

I understand that games like Call of Duty and the Killzone series do not have factions that include a female character build, but, and my hardcoe gamer boyfriend backs me up on this, not everyone wants to play as a male character. The draw of having an entirely different six for male players, is of course visually oriented, for female players it is an identifier and a welcome invitation to pick up the controller and spend the time playing.

I cannot speak for the male population of gamers, as I am not a male, but I am a female and I'd like to play Brink as a bad arsed female, with a cute butt, (pretty please?)

Again, I think Brink is mind-blowing from all the footage I've seen, and it would be even more mind-blowing to know that female character builds could be incorporated!!

Although I'm not a girl, I hear what you're saying and I also wish there could have been female character models in the game for equality purposes.

However, I think the official word is that they axed the female models.... They said it was a really hard decision to make but it allowed for greater customization (and probably also allowed them to meet their deadline).

Sorry. :(

I can understand not having it, but it would be nice as an expansion as well

This topic has been done before many times (both here and in the official SD forums but with lots more sixism, lol) and it's kind of a controversial topic from what I have seen, so be warned. :whistling:

Here is the general answer:
It has been answered that it is a resources thing. The devs either have to sacrifice the amount of customization (and thus limited customization) if they choose to do both genders or just do one gender and work on giving that gender lots of customization. Also, they would also have to do separate animations and models for each body type and clothing for the females, which would take up more resources.

I know, it stung me quite a bit to hear a game in which there is "deep" customization does not contain female models. :cryvaultboy:

But, I must move on (for now, at least).
HOWEVER:
One of the devs did say in the official forums that they would consider female models one of their "top priorities" if Brink is a success and has a sequel. I'm hoping they stay true to that or I will be really, really :sadvaultboy: and not buy the sequel and just move on to another game that does.

I would just search Female Characters and you'll find a giant selection of topics on it and why it can't be in the game.

And there are Female NPCs, so you will see female characters. Also I don't see how the body types would fit with playable female chars.

*sigh* Another one? we really need to sticky stuff like this....

Anywho, they cant add females because if they did they would have to make a seperate line of archtypes (the cloths basicly) for females, but they dont have enough time/theres not enouhg room on the disc for both female and male to have as many archtypes that males have, so they would have to cut alot of the archtypes from the males, this was a hard decision SD had to do, they chose keep males and cut females, i think its the right choice because most gamers are male and its not THAT big of a deal, i would liek to see females in the game but they cant add it.

If they could they would but they cant, if they make a sequel then they could probably add females but right now they cant.

you're right... no one wants to be blasting away dudes all day. Sometimes we want to check out a girl through the scope of the rifle before we pop them in their pretty little heads :hubbahubba:

Errr, just have buffer girls or big-boned girls, lol?

That's not an excuse for not putting female characters for me. Lack of resources, yes. But the, "How will girls look like different body types?" argument (which I hear on the official forums countless of times) does not fly with moi!

EDIT: Female characters are a big deal for us girl gamers because we are not often represented nor are we considered part of the elusive "target" market. So I totally understand OP's point and understand why she would feel strongly like this.

Well it makes more sense about the resources and everything, but I'm still wondering how a heavy female would come out with the art style of the game. Seems like it would be pretty errrmm different? haha

Problem with female bodytypes:
I don't know a single guy/girl (I've asked) that would WANT to play a large/heavy/superbuff female, which eliminates a large part of the game, and I feel could lead to some even more problematic and controversial subjects. Especially with this art style, I feel a heavy female model would look goofy and give a sort of bad impression towards larger women :/

There is another thread about this and the game is too far gone to do this, the sequel may have females.

Despite the fact that I probably wouldn't play as a female character, I'm disappointed that there aren't any.

However, I'd be more disappointed if the release date got pushed back another year or two to add them in.

Indeed! I would totally love to see how Brink devs deal with that. They were already thinking about female models in the beginning originally, so they must have their own ideas on how to approach it...

However, most women in video games and other entertainment areas (comic books especially and animated cartoons) tend to have unrealistic proportions ANYWAY. (And they sometimes have those spine-breaking positions. Gosh! I wish I was THAT flexible, lol!)

I think just regular person muscles (girl next door-ish or model-ish) for skinny, having more lean muscles for medium (like an athletic swimmer or runner?) (SuperGirl/Black Canary, lol?), and body-builder muscles and big-boned look for "Heavy's" (Perhaps big upper arm muscles like some portraits of Wonder Woman or She-Hulk maybe?).

You DO know women come in different shapes and sizes, not just anorexic like in cartoons. Besides, even in the How-to-Draw books I have seen, they show different muscles types for females. And, in video games, the women's bodies and heads and faces are kind of treated differently than the males and are already exaggerated in the first place.

wow this is a bigger problem then i thought, i figured it was a "aw that's too bad" thing but i literally can not stop hearing about this, i mean i'm not yelling or nothin' but damn, we know it doesn't have girls, they said it'll probably be in part 2, so before you post please Search it and educate ya'self.

Edit> p.s. kinda funny every time these topics are made it's killed by the same argument too which is "how would you make a heavy girl without making an ape?".

The game looks interesting and is one i might have considered for purchase, i have to purchase 2 copies if you aquire my drift. But anyway i will not purcuase any copies until the models are inclusive for all sixes anything less is just lazy or sloppy programming. So when you patch it to correct this major oversite i will consider a copy until then well there is other titles out there that are inclusive and multiplayer.

There's more to a female character than just slapping on briasts, as Ham puts it himself. He wanted to capture how women moved and operated with precision, and certainly did not want to do a shoddy job. But to do so would require cutting the available character customization options in half to include women's variants.

I can imagine the female heavy...urgh. I get the mental image of a fable 2 warrior girl with maxed out strength. Go find a video of it. I'm sure they could work it out but the fact that they already had to delay this game what two or three times should show that their really was no wiggle room for them to add in anything but the absolute necessities. Gender choice is important but its not the end of the world. if they could have added in women I'm sure they would be their.

Splash Damage decided to exclude female player models because if they were going to make females they didn't want to just slap female parts on a male character and say "Hey look we got females". They wanted to make them as good as their male models. If the added female models they would have to cut the amount of customization options down by half. Saying that Splash Damage is lazy just because they have a valid reason for not adding females is just ignorant. Splash Damage is doing everything in their power to make this a great well balance and fun game, and there were bound to be things that would be cut and unfortunately females happened to be one of them.

And saying your not going to buy a game just because you can't see a female's hands in first person is just a dumb reason...

So just do like most other Brink fans are doing and get over it.

I am female and I JUST joined the forums, and this was the first thread I saw. I was just talking to the gaming community I'm part of about this, and how upset I was that there's no females in brink. Seems weird that out of all these people on the ark, refugees/security forces that there's NO females running around fighting. I understand they had to remove them cause it would take alot to implement, but I still prefer to play females in the games I play with my clan, we're currently playing APB: Reloaded.

Overall I still am gonna be playing this game with my clan and I'm still going to love it.
