Where are the Daedra?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 8:38 pm

Topic?

In Morrowind and Oblivion, you run into Daedra all over the place. I'm talking Scamps, Clannfear, Dremora, Daedroths, various and sundry Atronachs, Spider Daedra, Golden Saints, so on and so forth.

To be fair, Morrowind had Daedric Ruins, and Oblivion had... well.. Oblivion. However Skyrim seems oddly devoid of these creatures.

I know, I know, read the lore. TES V takes place 200 years after Mehrunes Dagon was sent packing, but for me the Daedra have always been a major part of the TES universe. And to be fair I haven't explored a lot of the map at all, which is why I'm asking. Are the Daedra around and about in this game?

They are, yes, just rarer. I've encountered Frost Atronachs, Fire Atronachs and Dremora so far.

It's cold and partially desolate.

You don't see James Bond film villains trying to kill every living creature... on the north pole, or occupy greenland, or force a war between Isle of Man and Iceland.

100 hours in and all I have seen are atronachs and dremora. Also if a Daedric prince couldn't manifest then how did I meet one the other day? Sure, it wasn't in its true form. A well practiced conjurer should be able to summon lesser daedra. Perhaps there is a stigma towards teaching these spells? Sad, I really would enjoy commanding daedroths again. DLC grimoires?

There are no Daedra aside from atronachs and dremora... apparently some of the most popular creatures in the series didn't make it into the game.

Edit: Even despite being the basis of one of the magic schools. I laugh when I think back to the thread that was once made about how we visualized our characters would fight a gang of bandits... a good half of the people here said they'd summon a Clannfear, alas we got no Clannfears.

I've found several hearts floating around various dungeons and evil wizard occupied forts.

There are no affiliated lesser's in Skyim sadly (suppose you could link Dremora to Dagon but not really), though I can't see them being left out completely as they are part of what makes TES, the TES imo and am sure others also.

I'm predicting a big comeback for them in the huge expansions, Todd was talking about.

Maybe they felt that the Scamps and Clannfears were too light hearted for the dark cold homeland of the Nords?

I always loved the Golden Saints though.

They were all taken out of the game then shortly before release were added back in so there is a few but not that many.

I'm guessing they got hunted to near extinction after the Oblivion incident. Look at the Vigilants of Stendarr for example, they pretty much state that they're hunting down Daedra and Daedra worshippers. Along with Vampires, Werewolves, Gays (presumably), Mudcrabs (definitely), and everything else in the world. They're pretty much the Westboro Baptist Church of TES, just with maces instead of signs. And less picketing and more hitting things violently.

I could handwave the spirit of the times; not very ripe for daedra worshippers running about. But I'm probably horribly wrong; there should always be some sort of pseudo-villainy force trying to bend the war for their own terms. Even if they're not very successful, as apparent from the lack of daedra in Skyrim. aw

Scamps, lighthearted. That's adorable.
Do wonder what the DLC soon bring

I thought the clanfears and scamps were coming out of the Oblivion gates, I figured since there are no oblivion gates that's why they are absent.

Is this the same as how Bethesda's computers exploded in a fury of fire and death 6 minutes before Oblivion's release and they had to re-record all the dialogue?

I usually get my deadra hearths from hagravens... Beats me where they get them. (not sure if hagravens are deadra or not...if they are: add another type of deadra to the "present" list)

I found a Daedra Heart in an Alchemists satchel in a tent in the forest... Does that count? :P

good point. wouldnt suprise me if that is the explanation for the the very few deadra in Skyrim.

I laughed audibly at "Gays (presumably)" and outright "hah!"d at "Westboro Baptist Church of TES". Thank you sir / madam.

I ran into these 'noble' hunters on a character that happened to have acquired lycanthropy and after they explained what they were doing out in the middle of nowhere on a lonely road with NO WITNESSES I instantly hit Z to transform only to be disappointed that it hadn't been 24 hours since my last rampage. Sadface.

i think its because daedra hearts are used in smithing and are supposed to be really rare because of it; still, daedra are a mainstay of the series, and its kind of disappointing that there are only a scant few dremora and almost as few atronachs. i suppose its understandable given that morrowind was a haven for daedra worship, oblivion was oblivion, and skyrim conversely really has no reason to have daedra running about; its enough of a stretch that there are shrines yet to be purged and burnt to the ground.

still, more enemy variety really couldnt hurt... im fairly certain skyrim has less enemy types than any game in the series.

It's really too bad, my Daedric Conjurer is going to have so very few options until a mod comes out to add more summons. I was hoping we'd see more daedra, like morphoids, ogrim, and winged twilights, not less than even Oblivion.

You'd think there would be more Daedra in the game, given that there is a group called the Vigilance of Stendarr that is basically an un-joinable guild of Daedra hunters.

svcks that you can't join them.
