Where are the Dwarves?

Post » Wed Nov 30, 2011 8:42 pm

As the title says. Why has there never been a Dwarven race in the Elder Scrolls series? This came to mind today while I was playing Skyrim. You get Dwarven ruins, weapons and armour in Skyrim but there arent actual dwarves in the game. If the weapons, armour and ruins were created by them, where is the proof? Just a thought guys. Let me know your opinions on this.

You find out what happened to the Dwemer (their actual name, note the -mer) during the main quest in Morrowind.

They've been extinct for some time :)

They're dead, Jim. The Dwemer, who are really just underground elves and not short at all, tried to become gods. It did not work out.

Many piles of ash in armor suits replaced them. Only 1 guy survived. He was in Morrowind suffering from Corprus last we saw.

If you'd played Morrowind, you'd know.

Their leader,Kagrenac, teleported them to who-knows-where during a war with the Dunmer [or maybe even killed them, since the whole race disappeared in a fraction of a second amidst the conflict]. Not even the gods themselves know where they ended up. They were trying to create a god, and a world of their own.
It's one of the biggest mysteries on TES.

You will find some Dwemer ruins, even their armor and weapons. You'll see some of their tech and magic still at work. Actual Dwemer? No. They've been extinct for a very long time at this point. More to the point, they're hardly traditional Dwarves by any means. They aren't Drunkards with Axes. In fact even the title of Dwarf is a mistaken name for the Dwemer . . . it has to do with a mistake about just who called them Dwarves. You see Giants were the ones that called the Dwemer such things. Sort of puts it in perspective.

Basically, they tried to anti-create themselvers back to the divine and created the 'brass-god', which consumed all of them but one and just disappeared made them disappear. Poof.

And by "teleported," he means "their bodies disappeared from within their armor, leaving nothing but piles of ash."

Yagrum Bagarn, last of the Dwemer: http://images.wikia.com/elderscrolls/images/8/8b/Yagrum_Bagarn.jpg

I think he's the most interesting character in Morrowind by far.

For more information, pick up a copy of Morrowind (ideally for the PC) and play that.

They tried to use the Heart of Lorkhan correct?

Here we go, from the dev's mouth
"Kagrenac was devoted to his people, and the Dwarves, despite what you may have read, were a pious lot-he would not have sacrificed so many of their golden souls to create Anumidum's metal body if it were all in the name of grand theater. Kagrenac had even built the tools needed to construct a Mantella, the Crux of Transcendence."

Okay. So now everyone can stop posting about where the Dwarves went. I TOLD YOU EIGHTY YEARS AGO.

Filthy with it, I am.

In short, the dwemer become the Numidium. All of them, save for one lone dwemer. If there's a question to be asked, it is why only 1 dwemer did not become the Numidium.

Because he was broken, and the all of the dwarf-fixers had already been svcked into the Big Guy before anybody else realized there was a spring loose.

I haven't seen any evidence that the Dwemer were turned into anything. It is one of the great mysterious of the Elder Scrolls universe. Nobody knows what happened to them, not even Yagram, the last one on Nirn. I find it hard to believe a highly advanced race of technological elves who had the ability to travel between planes would Fubar something like tinkering with lorkan's heart so bad they all turned into an object or where destroyed. Its far more likely that they used the power of the heart to transcend to a new plane and still live there.

The fact that Yagram didn't go with them because he was in an outer realm would rule out the idea that Deadra or Aedra or even Lorkan's heart which its power was from the same source destroyed them all because they also have power in the outer realm so Yagram would of disappeared too. It had to be a transportation spell that only affected Nirn, and only the living Dwemer as the ghosts of Dwemer who died before it, were still present in ruins.

Who says that transforming the whole race into a giant robot was a mistake? Some of my best friends would very much like to see real-life humanity follow a similar path, and they're not insane. It's called transhumanism, and its a rather reasonable idea.

Does it matter if you have evidence when you have the word of a dev?

The lone Dwemer already answered that question, he was off world at the time, possibly in oblivion or in another plane. It's possible others were as well.

As for what really happened to them, no one really knows still. They disappeared. Maybe some of them became Ash, maybe not. Until it appears in-game or in a canon novel, it's not officially lore.
