Where are the Indians?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 6:42 pm

So I was thinking on the way home "hm, theres alot of cowboy type stuff going on in FONV, should't that go hand in hand with Indians as well?" More to the point, where are they and in your opinion should they be there? I haven't seen any Indian type characters or factions in NV (unless you call the Boomers Indian like...which I don't). Also, I'm not really that familar with the surrounding area of Vegas, but arent there reservations around there that would have injected that area with some sort of Indian culture even 200yrs after the bombs fell? Correct me if I'm wrong, and please don't turn this into a flame war of real life politics regarding Indians.

For my part I think it would have been pretty cool to see an Indian like faction with like related quests about survival skills and such, what do you all think?

I think Caesar's Legion members include a few Indian tribes. The history is that they originated from the Blackfoot tribe. (although after the apocalypse I guess any group of people can call themselves a "tribe")

Many of the legion soldier's faces appear Asian or Native American.

I'd say it's very likely that those that survived the war were absorbed into Caesar's Legion.

Silly Boy, indians are in India!

Anyways, it would be interesting, but I would assume most, if not all, in the area have been absorbed by The NCR/The Great Khans/Caesar's Legion

Valid point, but they couldn't have absorbed all all of the tribes around Vegas. I just think it would have added somthing to have some old Indian wiseman train you in the art of survival in these harsh environments or have a hidden/secluded Indian tribe with initiation rites and all that.

Ha! Pun!

Because Brahmin are a caste in the Indian culture... Get it?

Edit: Bootysweat (Tropic Thunder) deserves the credit for the Indian/Native American's being absorbed into Caesar's Legion idea.

Actually if you talk with Caesar and/or the old Ranger guy at Camp Golf, they will tell you about the Legion's origins.

Microsoft made that choice, not India, and the PS3 and PC versions are still available I think, but with the Brahmin renamed.

I would guess that they left out Native American content mostly because they didn't have room for more factions/content, but also partially because they were worried about being seen as insensitive if they made an error.

The Great Khans storyline screams Native American, with them being massacred and then relegated to a small, barely hospitable piece of land by an expanding, colonizing power.

But as for the actual Natives, I'm assuming that the survivors continued living in their tribes until they were either absorbed or killed off.

Going by info from Van Buren "the Blackfoot tribe are unrelated to the Native American tribe of the same name" the Devs that worked on it made New Vegas so it might still be the case.

As for the OPs question its possible that by 2077 many Native American reservations were wiped out in the United States. Due to resources being very rare and when push comes to shove the Natives will lose out. Also New Plague could have also done an number on remaining native populations. Also possible that by 2077 Many native tribes lost/forgot how to life off the land. Great war making it hard for anyone without a Geck to survive. Any tribes that some how survived could have been taken over by greater numbers of none native people.

You know nothing of Nevada do you? Nevada doesn't have Indian gaming laws, there isn't any point as commercial gambling is legal. Native American Indians tend to own casinos in states where commercial gambling is illegal. Say in my state of Minnesota commercial gambling is illegal, I couldn't open a casino. But the state has Indian gaming laws thus we have several casinos built on reservations. And how would you know if you met one in the game anyway?
