Where Are The 5 "Massive" Cities?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:12 pm

Post Gridiron! Bethesda loves their lies.

Fix'd

Double fix'd.

Heck, Arena didn't even have a single Arena in it... And Daggerfall allegedly had full-scale inter-kingdom real-time warfare.

Hat Trick Fix!

I wish they would concentrate less on detailed meshes and fluff and get the core of the game right. Large cities, lots of NPCs (even if they are graphically less intense) , good animations, complex gameplay, good AI. And so on. It seems like all the resources and time went into fluff...which makes good screenshots and promo videos but translates into a hollow gaming experience.

Lots of low-poly models and low-res textures belie the argument, unfortunately. If they got any worse, we'd have a lot more unhappy fans than we do now.

No, Winterhold was never one of the 5 main cities they mentioned. That wasn't a lie.

Massive in comparison to previous TES cities was a lie.

It's like some of you don't understand marketing at all. What did you want him to say? Medium size cities? Massive is relative and can certainly apply to the cities in Skyrim.

Beth have lost the plot on city design. Even Assassins Creed can make more believable cities...

The Imperial City was huge but unpopulated.

Solitude is even smaller and still is unpopulated. Even Riften has more people living in it. Lol.

Agreed: Towns serve two purposes for me: Outfitting for adventure, and getting (some) quests. The more time I spend out in the field, the better.

In Morrowind I kept trying to enjoy the scenery, but I kept running into buildings. Skyrim - I can wander for
hours through the wilderness and enjoy the sights...
until my attempts to leave and go back home to Cyrodiil get stymied by "You Can't Go that Way" messages.

I was sad too. I could allmost see the white gold tower.

EDIT @winter wolf: you do realize that Assassians Creed is entirely built around those locations. And no. Assassins creed does large blankets of environment disguised as a city with lots of mindless drones wandering around well.

The fluff is what makes the game fun.

Not for me, the fluff is just what it is fluff...without the core game-play and RPG mechanics its hollow and uninteresting. And this time around I don't think mods can save it. I guess I wil keep my eye out for another company. Bethesda is just not the same anymore. They almost feel like EA or something. They are not quite that bad....but this is starting to feel like a Madden NFL series or something. Almost really worse because it started better and then just got worse and worse all the while looking prettier and prettier. I appreciate the graphics improvements, the profesisional sound, and voice acting...but I would rather have deep game-play and fun replay value.

I am telling you this game has no heart and soul, just a lot of high production value. There has got to be a company out there that is capable of making a proper open ended RPG. Bethesda is getting worse and worse. And since this game was a financial success I don't expect it will get any better..probably next time will be even more dumbed down.

Well, in defense of Bethesda, one has to admit the ruins do give a sense of being rather large on the outside. But the inhabited cities are quite small as compared to the cities in Oblivion, even if you take the Imperial City out of it.

Compared to Peter Monylux though, Bethseda PR is tame. Fable III apparently you could change the taxes for each individual region and then it would impact that region accordingly.......No, in the final version of the game you could set your tax rate at teh start of being a king and that's it.

I wish Skyrim was bigger, however it's not been completley lied about like other game companies do.

That's because that game is based around adventuring through believable cities. If you expected a game about delving into dungeons or exploring massive worlds to beat a game based around exploring and maneuvering through cities in terms of city design, then you need to re-assess your expectations.

While Ubisoft was busy making cities, Bethesda was making places like Blackreach, Lost Valley Redoubt, and the Entire Landmass of Skyrim. The wilderness of Assassin's Creed is underwhelming.

Do you really want me to answer? Ok they could merge all armor slots. Get rid of axes, merge one handed and two handed perks together. Merge more magic schools together. Get rid of enchanting. get rid of Alchemy. Make less spell schools, make one for offensive one for defensive. Put WOW question marks over quest providers. Eliminate stamina bar, eliminate mana bar, auto level your stamina health and mana bars...and so on. They could really get stupid with this game if they wanted.

I dont know about but i am concern and pissed at Bethesda for Lying about the "4 Cores", High Resolution Textures, DX11 Support and the "GREATLY IMPROVED ANIMATIONS" (dual hand something and look at your feet, jumping is also really crappy).

Those are the things im pissed at... DAMN LIES.

I disagree with everything you've said here. While you continue to count what gets removed from each game, I can plainly see what gets added - and it far outstrips what's been removed. The environments are believable, and beautiful with the flora and fauna (Both of which are strong gameplay elements as well).

I, and a lot of other RPG fans, find Skyrim to be a lot better than Morrowind and Daggerfall ever were.

Once you go there, it will put doubt upon all doubts you had about Skyrim's ability to be awesome.

I wish I could befriend the inhabitants instead of have to kill them all. I'll need a mod to make the Forsworn befriendable! After all, if it's possible to side with Ulfric Stormcloak to throw out the foreign invaders and reestablish the worship of the Stormcloak's traditional gods, why will the Forsworn not let me side with them in driving out the invaders that seek to trample their ancient traditions?

I'd just be an outside guest happy to let them live and honor their traditions.

I do agree with the points you have made, but when are Beth going to start to put a balance in their games????
Ten years from now the main city will still only have ten people walking around. It is a joke.

Solitude, Riften, Markarth, Whiterun, Windhelm. The walled cities are the "massive" ones.

What has been added? Pretty graphics? Thats the fluff. If that is all you want just watch a movie or something. The game has become less complex as compared to it's first iteration almost 20 years ago. Just get a graphics demo or something and run around then. The game is just not intellectually stimulating at all anymore. It's pretty, its fun to wander around and marvel at how well technology has improved that a large landmass can be created that looks so nice.....but if it is empty and devoid of any purpose. Well then its just a empty world with a face lift. I think they spend a lot of time and resources on sound and graphics, but the core game play is just secondaray to the whole process. When it should have been the most important aspect.

The games AI has not improved at all. Since what maybe even Morrowind? I mean they could have gone the opposite direction, they could have made combat quite awesome, impact detection for body sections, enemies that really surrender, cripple enemies, stun them, daze them...but nothing like that got added. I would so much prefer combat with extra stuff in it supported by better AI then some of the graphics. And honestly the graphics in this game are not that great. All games are looking better as technology improves.
