Where are we on the timeline?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 12:35 pm

This is true for people. But one might expect robots to be a little more literal and exact and in the demo video doesn't the Mr. Handy remark something to the effect that the protagonist was 200 years late?

Still, I'm imagining it around 2284 simply because it's been seven years since Fallout 3 so I'm placing Fallout 4 seven years later in game as well. No deep theories or anything, just expecting a sense of continuity that wouldn't be present if it took place at the same time as the previous games.

As I said...it's mister handy. They are not as detailed and accurate as other robots. They do act more like humans... or at least try it with bad jokes for exemple. Noone would like a butler who would say 'You are to late from school 217 years, 67 days, 14 hours, 23 minutes and 1 second!' insteed of 'You are 200 years to late!'

And yet he gives the precise temperature of the coffee in the pre-war scene. But then again, that could just be his "programmed humour", especially if someone had complained about the coffee being too hot or cold previously.

It is also possible that Bethesda want to keep the exact date a secret at this time, and the trailer has been edited accordingly.

Its exactly 200 years, confirmed by Pete Hines in this interview.

Time stamp is alittle off but just keep watching.

So it is most likely midwestern/new BoS.

If it's exactly 200 years then it would be at the same time as Fallout 3. If it is, and if Three Dog is in it, will we be hearing about the Lone Wanderer on the radio?

If it is the same time, then how can we hear Three Dog? I know he's rumoured to be in it. But Washington D.C. is 400 miles from Boston. Three Dog could barely cover the D.C. wasteland with his radio show, and that was only after enlisting/blackmailing the Lone Wanderers help lol.

Well Fallout 3 starts on August 17th, 2277, so just a little over two months before the 200th anniversary of the Great War. Depending on when exactly Broken Steel happens it could be concurrent with the happenings of Fallout 4.

Woudn't put much stock in the robots 200 year comment.

EMPs play hell with electronics and I believe it had to deal with a doozy of one.

Electronics in the Fallout world are vacuum tube-based, the transistor not being invented until just a few short years before the Great War. Vacuum tubes are naturally resistant to EMPs and I would not be surprised if in the Fallout world they were also hardened as well. This is why so much of the electronic crap still works in the Fallout world

My hopes are that FO4 takes place during the same time or a year or two after the events of FONV.

EMP grenades work on Securitons.I would think they have a better chance to be shielded/hardened than a robot butler.

Codsworths recollection maybe unreliable.

Yeah the EMP grenades work but it's easy to say that 200+ years of hardship and disrepair would make them more susceptible to the EMP grenade. Or you could simply say that EMP grenades are more focused and thus more powerful than a nuclear pulse.

And after all a lot of robots need more than one hit from the things.
