So true. I felt this way too straight out of college doing the Big 4 grind. 80 hour weeks for mediocre pay. Things pay off in the end though.

I haven't read about any Aussies or Kiwis here...pardon me if I didn't catch it in your posts. What do you kangaroo-punchers do for a living, and what do you do in the down time when a dingo isn't taking your baby?

In all seriousness, I don't intend to offend anyone from Oceania. Pardon my generalizations.

I'm a 49 yr old software developer (not gaming -I wish) in Florida. I've been gaming since I was a kid, when my older sister had an Atari 400 system, and I used to scrounge quarters to go down to the Penny Arcade to play Asteroids and Space Invaders. I joined the military right out of high school, and one of my first big purchases as an advlt was a Commodore 64. I've had a PC capable of gaming ever since. Some of my favorite games along the way were Curse of the Azure Bonds, Baldor's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Heretic. I was also pretty heavy into Dungeons and Dragons (original advanced edition) when I was stationed in Okinawa, 83-85. I was never able to find another tight gaming group like I had there though, so have only played it a handful of times since.

My first MMO was Ultima Online at release (I also had played Ultima 2 on the Commodore), but I didn't play it long (didn't like the PKers). The first MMO I really spent any time in was Everquest, starting in January 2000. To this day, I'm pretty sure it still holds the distinction of most time in one game for me. I know I had over 3000 hours on one character alone, and I wasn't the kind of guy to play just one character.

I didn't start playing Elder Scrolls until Skyrim, but I liked it so much I went back and played Oblivion and a little bit of Morrowind. I've been in the ESO beta weekend events since September, and despite having some issues with ESO, love it very much. I pre-ordered the physical Imperial Edition the day it became available, and I never do that. I've bought one digital CE (Rift), but never a physical one, for anything -until now.

I am a bit surprised that a lot of members/former members of the military will be playing TESO. How do you all get into TES? Word of mouth by fellow soldiers? For those currently active, do you/can you play while on deployment?

Californian, previously from Nova Scotia. 3 kids, wife (who will also be playing). We actually met in DAoC. Yep. We're -those- people.

I'm a Professional Land Surveyor (thus the avatar), so I'm just maintaining the blue/white collar split. We surveyors are Engineers who were too smart to want to stay indoors all the time, and too technology-minded to want to stay outside.

I got into TES years ago. Morrowind was the first. That was prior to the military, for me. While I was on deployment, we could not play online, but we could play console or on laptops. One of the guys I was deployed with made a private server for WoW, offline, so people could get their fix, but I never played with them.

Oooohhh...a fellow beer snob. /salute

I'm a big fan of St. Pauli Girl - Dark, Guiness, Anchor Steam or other dark beers. I don't drink Coors or Budweiser...even if it's the last thing in the cooler.

*Edit - I lie. My wife says I've been known to drink anything if it's left in the cooler. True story.

I left the military in 92, before even Arena was out. I had heard about TES, just like anyone who keeps up with gaming news, but had never tried any of the games. One day while reading the Rift forums, there was a thread or two about Skyrim. It was about 2 weeks after it released. It sounded interesting, so I checked out some youtube videos of it, and was convinced to buy it that night. I've been hooked on TES ever since.

The American TV lied to me. I thought Fosters was Australian for beer. Just kidding...

However, we're off topic and I fear a lock soon.

Anybody in Oceana want to tells us a story about themselves?

From Missouri. Grew up in the country and while I enjoyed the outdoors what with hunting and fishing and so on, as I got into my teens I hated living in the sticks lol. Now at 35 I wish I still did. Any way life long Cardinals fan even though I dont live where I can watch every game anymore I still follow and rout for them and always go to yhe games when they come to KC. Went from working in fast food as a teen to construction (concrete) to now working with ppl with mental illnesses. Married with twin boys have loved taking them back out to my moms house ib the country and sharing with them my lovenof the out doors.

So yeah just a good old country boy living in a college town now.

Have always been a gamer since my parents bought me an Atari back in the day. Started TES with Morrowind and played all after that. First and fav MMO is DAoC.
