Where are you now? #5

Most of the time, I play for fun. I make characters that I like, that I want to travel with. Characters like Wild Elf. :)

Etta is different. Etta is an intentional exploration of the "dark side," and I'm not doing it for fun. I seriously doubt that I will post Etta's story in full on this forum, because it's based upon things that are a little too "true" for here. There are places in the real world where it is profoundly dangerous and nearly hopeless just to be born female, and Etta is my imagined tour through the mind of a person who has "been there." I believe that the DB and SI quest lines provide a basic structure on which to play out Etta's inner struggle, and a way for her to come out a survivor in the end.

The question is whether I can stand the trip. :)

Edited For Accuracy and Clarity.
What you say is a very interesting approach to the idea of character creation, it's good to think a little deeper - without intending to draw parallels with someone I have never met - it's a similar idea as to why I am RP-ing Niamh. I want to explore what a character like her would be like, thinking about her backstory and so forth, and her motivations on a rather more intensive level than previously. Being a man I make no claims to "knowing what women are like or what they go through" - it's just a different mind for me to inhabit, and because it's dull to roleplay yourself - (I think).

Also I've always tended to play pretty neutral or "good" characters so it's interesting to get into the mindset of a character who is much more Chaotically aligned as it were, and see where we get to from there. Niamh is very much my Elric - she's appeared in pretty much every RPG I've ever played, in one form or another - this time she's darker though and definitely more intense than ever before.

It'll make for an interesting trip.

I have to say, I think that's both a brave and admirable undertaking. Good luck, glargg, and best wishes, Etta.

That was the case when I played Lilith. She was a very dark character, whose embraced the horror she had suffered, and turned into quite the monster. Eventually I just did not want to play her anymore. But she was the perfect character to explore the DB questline with. Unlike most people, she did not hesitate to do the Purification, nor blink an eye at what happened to Lucien. She was a pure killer, untainted by a conscience, and loving nothing but death.

***

On the other hand, Nykteria does not so much embrace the horror, as use it to hone her into a weapon of necromancer slaying. Tonight in her quest to eradicate the taint of corpse-jockeys from Cyrodiil she delved into the depths of Lost Boy Cavern. She had some rousing fights with necromancers, that really got her blood pounding. But thanks to her potions, and Old Meat, she dealt a cold justice sandwich to all of the fiends. Except their master, the Lich Erandur-Vangaril. (I created a mod that makes him hostile even if you are under level 23) He just brushed off everything that Nykteria threw at her. At least everything he did not reflect back. Old Meat had no better luck against his Skeleton Heros. After a good ten minutes of slugging it out with the lich, Nykteria realized that she had to withdraw, and come back some day when she was more powerful. That stung her pride, as she had never had to flee from an enemy before (and I have not had to do it since playing Morrowind, when my 1st level archer walked into a cave filled with ghosts).'

So Nykteria headed south, and took out her frustrations on the goblins in Fort Gold-Throat. After that she returned to her lair in Cadlew Shrine, to add her necromancer robe trophies to the others she has taken. Then she was off to Bravil to sell her loot, and finally to the Imperial City to buy a staff from Rindir. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1302393-help-nykteria-with-her-staff/

Morning. The Imperial City Market District. My decrepit avatar and Vilja have just arrived from Faregyl Village, where they slept the night following an inn supply delivery. Rather than continue on to their manse in Weye they will grab patrol and delivery assignments to Cheydinhal and commence that journey forthwith.

Between reports they traveled to and from Leyawiin on patrol, with stop en route at Bravil to deliver supplies. Taxes-due with gathered at Imperial Bridge Inn during the return trip.

Prior to that they spent the entirety of a day combing caves and ruins in the immediate Imperial Isle area in hope of unearthing (unNirning?) chalices. So long were they at it that they ended up sleeping in the final ruin visited.

The time has come, and I have returned to Cyrodiil! :celebration: I picked up where I left off with Arum, which was in the Imperial City.

He'd just purchased a few things for Battlehorn Castle, though he isn't sure if he's going to buy any more. The castle is too big and lonely for him really, and he doesn't have the wealth to maintain it permanently. Before he left the Imperial City he sent a letter by courier to Rayn (who is in Anvil, sorting out their ghost problem), explaining to her that after supervising the arrangement of his new furniture in the Castle, he intended to travel to Cheydinhal to get some more work from the Fighter's Guild.

After supervising the furniture delivery he had a quick meal in the castle, but was eager to get going as soon as possible. As he stepped outside he did not expect a young courier boy to trip over him in his haste to deliver a reply from Rayn. Her letter said simply that she had bought him a gift befitting a knight, and it was waiting for him on the road outside. The gift turned out to be a magnificent black mare, a perfect opposite of Rayn's white stallion. She had signed off the letter with, "I should hope my gift will bring you back to me a little faster."

This is why you should always name your fantasy world Earth. Otherwise you cannot use terms like earthenware, earthy, earthworks, etc...

Welcome back!

I feel the same way about those big castles and manors. They are just too big, and feel empty. I prefer the cozy little houses like the one in Cheydinhal. And a black mare! I am sure Acadian will be chiming in on this soon. I just loved the letter.

Yes indeed, welcome back! :foodndrink:

Lothran had been out in the mountains all day with Honmund, collecting various ingredients. The few that actuallt can grow there that is. When they came back Lothran decided to hit the bar and relax after his day in the snow.
What happened next is quite humorous. Lothran′s good friend Ongar decided to help himself to a snack without the use of septims. He snuck up to a table and grabbed something which of course alerted a guard who came running in to take care of it. Ongar then fled out the door where more guards joined in the chase, shooting arrows after the poor man who fled inside Arnora′s house. Lothran who witnessed all this ran inside too to see what would happen next. Well, the guards came in, about five or six, and slew poor Ongar down right in front of my Dark Elf′s eyes! Right after their deed they left the house, but as Ongar is quite the tough Nord he was soon back on his feet. He went outside and snuck all the way back to Olav′s, went straight to Brotch and said

Spoiler
"The Tap and Tack is quite a relaxing place, don′t you think"?

Sleek, beautiful and built for speed. *chime* If I wanted someone brought to me quickly, I'd send a magnificent black mare too.

Continuing my return home to Cyrodiil with Skarsgard tonight. Like I wrote an age ago, he was heading to the tavern.

Well, he certainly had a few drinks. Enough to lose all his inhibitions and go outside, take off his shirt and parade up and down the docks so all the ladies (and some of the gentlemen) could see his shiny axe. He was arrogant enough to ask me to http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l528/Lady-Mara-2/Skarsgard9.jpg If he's not too hungover in the morning, he's going to investigate some rumours about a pirate's cove...

Niamh is currently making her way to a date with destiny at the Inn of Ill Omen, although progress is slow due to an inherent and insatiable curiousity involving ruins, caves and mines and a complete inability to leave anything alive within bowshot range...

My decrepit avatar once again finds himself home in Weye Village at bedtime. He's bid good night to Vilja and retired to his third floor living quarters. (Vilja's rooms are on the second floor.) He's changed from armor into robes and is about to hit the sack.

His recent adventures should be easily predicted by those who frequent this thread. Road patrols. Tax collection. Wine deliveries. Merchant supply runs. Re-stocking their sales shoppe in Chorrol. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

One break in routine occurred. Just this Cyrodiil-morning my avatar, waking in his property at Faregyl, scanned his map and elected to spend his day scouring a reasonably nearby cave on the shores of the Niben. He hoped to find a chalice there. Miracle of miracles, it came to pass! http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn303/Decrepit_Waste/ESIV%20Oblivion/ChaliceSHC.jpg. Two down, eight (???) to go.

This image also documents a semi recent minor alteration in my avatar's travel attire. As can be seen, he sports a combination of leather boots and gloves, fur head gear, and Imperial Dragon plate. This is more or less his preferred "off duty" adventure gear these days, though the fur head piece is often traded for Imperial Dragon during "crawls". When on official legion business he of course continues to wear full Imperial Dragon. Indeed, he must wear it or suffer the consequences. The switch to leather and fur came about to ease pain in his poor old arthritic ankles and hands. As to head gear, do you know what metal feels like sitting atop a bald pate with no padding in between? At the best of times it's rather unpleasant. On cold and /or rainy days it's almost unbearable.

Nykteria has had a busy time lately. She went up to Cheydihnal because she had been told by someone in the Bravil Mages Guild that a Redguard there could teach her a water walking spell. That was no problem. Trayvond even told her about an Azura shrine in the mountains. That perked up Nykteria's ears, as she follows both Azura and Meridia. So she trekked north, following the unmarked roads, and eventually found it after playing pattycake and goblins and bandits along the way. There she learned she need glow dust to summon the goddess. Okay, so she walked back down to Cheydinhal to see if she could by some. No luck. So she walked to the Imperial City, purchased it at the Gilded Carafe, and walked all the way back to Azura's shrine. I am sure we all know what happened next. Afterward she headed back skirting the Valus mountains, said hello to some nice Camonna Tong thugs and some Nord fellow near the base of Dive Rock, and explored a few ruins. After a brief stop in Cheydinhal to sell off her loot, she made her way back to Cadlew. She stopped along the way to explore another Ayleid ruin, and wipe out a goblin tribe. That makes 3 goblin tribe staffs in her collection now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion614.jpg for some much-needed relaxation. She probably needs to buy a new pair of shoes after all that walking as well!

Early morning approx 0635 just northeast of the ruins of Kvatch, Niamh discovers a nest of Necromancers secreted in Fort Linchal, she proceeds to clear them out - for gain and a break in the routine of her steady eastwards journey, more than anything.
One of them is nice enough to donate her hood, Niamh likes it and she very much hopes you do as well...
...no, really.

Eradikate woke up in the basemant of the Inn of Ill Omen. This is one of her "dens" :cold:

It's been awhile since I've touched her game. She has been given instructions to
Spoiler

take down all the members of the Dark Brotherhood,

but

Spoiler
She's probably gonna take down Lucien instead.
She likes her DB guildmates, and that's saying something becuase she's not in the habit of liking anyone, especially since she's a vampire.

Anyways, she's decided to have a peek into Fort Alessia and take down some marauders. Fun times! ;)

Aww shucks. Ongar rules. He's one of my favorite NPc's.

My Imperial Spellsword, Clagius Amatius is enjoying some fine Cyrodiilic Brandy at the Tiber Septim Inn in the Imperial City. He hasn't left the walls of the city in nearly one week. ( game-time) Business has been moving rather slowly and he hasn't recieved any leads to rare artifacts, which is how he makes his living.

If anyone would be so kind to offer Clagius some information I'm sure his purse would appreciate it.

All my dungeon diving characters would offer the same advice: get out of the IC! explore explore explore. Sometimes even the scummiest bandit cave can hold some sort of great treasure.

If you want rare artifacts, try the daedric quests. Each ends with a unique magic item as the reward. Unless Clagius has morals. In which case I suggest he ignore most of them, and just do Azura's and Meridia's. Maybe a few others.

Otherwise, as Renee said. Bandit and Marauder dungeons are great places to get loot. Not only do you pick up what they were hoarding, but all of their gear as well. Granted, it might take a few trips to haul it all back to a city to sell it. Fort Nikel, west of the IC, is a good place to start (and a very fun dungeon. You will see why when you get inside).

You know what's weird is dungeons occupied by imps actually often have better loot than NPC dungeons. Like when my characters are ultra-low level (below Level 4) the chances of finding something significant for selling or using seem greater in imp dungeons.

I hate imps though. they're my least favorite enemy.
