Where are you now? #7

Do what she wants to do, it's actually more rewarding because you really can end up in quite surprising situations. It's better to let the story guide you. Helps with writer's block too, trust me on that...

I think that is good advice and the gears in my head are turning. I feel a story brewing

Skingrad, West Weald Inn, circa 6pm. My decrepit avatar debates whether to spend the night at the local Fighters Guild hall or instead return to Weye. I suspect Weye will win out, but we shall see.

Cheza paced the floor of the guildmaster's bedroom, she had not grown to consider this place a home. "That [censored] used the guild and used me", her time since receiving the grey cowl and title of guildmaster had not gone well. "I tried so hard to impress him, did everything he asked and what did he do?", no longer muttering under her breath she was now yelling into an empty room "he abandoned us and stuck me with this damn cowl, he actually acted like this was a reward!"

She was tired of looking over her shoulder, tired of Armand getting her every penny to pay off judges, just plain tired of being chased. She wanted out, out of the guild and out of the Imperial City. She began to pack her things.

Cheza shouldered her pack and set off on foot "I'm the damned master of the Thieve's Guild and I can't even afford a horse." She walked the southern shore of Lake Rumare, pausing to look north towards the waterfront, "It's been just over a year since I left home and here I am leaving again." She turned on her heel and headed for the road.

I′m not sure, but I think Lothran is about to pull a graveyard shift with the guards of Bruma. He likes to patrol the night. It makes him think much clearer about... many things.

Here is a linky to an account in the FanFic section of some recent history involving Niamh & Vilja, and a cave-full of Daedra
(Part 1 so far)...

Etta fought her way to the end of the Burrow...

I'm glad Etta has made some sort of peace with herself. I bet she saw my poor R'isa's body in that horrible cave, if there was anything left of her. The elytra probably ate her.

Lady Saga ...
She can use her crystal ball to see where she is on Cyrodiil's map, but this takes an hour to do. She's currently torn between firing Erthor (going to Skingrad) or keeping him around (back towards Anvil where her current homes, Lord Drad's slave houses, are).

That's brilliant for RP purposes! I always knew those crystal balls were good for something. I think I know now what Rayn is doing when she sits down in the wilderness with hers. :twirl:

I wish my writing was half as good as your's Phon. You're an impressive talent, I just can't seem to match the grand ideas in my head. You're quite wonderful at this

Thank you very much, but there are I am sure far better writers than me on here, I just hack about really - although that said it was actually playing Oblivion that got me back into creative writing again, so it's been good for that too.

Actually I don′t think that. When I started this series I did not intend people to write whole novels but merely point out where the character was and for what reason. I′m not saying it′s not good read, I′m just saying that I prefer to stick with my original idea :)

In fairness to your original vision my post *should* have gone on my thread in the fanfic section and I should have just put a linky in here.
It was a bit above and beyond the thread scope and I can, if you like, stick it in the fanfic thread and just link it...? :)

I don′t like to point fingers and if you want to elaborate I won′t stand in your way. I kinda like the thing though where one link to other threads, let′s say to a pic in the pics thread, while writing about where they are instead of having the pic in the same thread.
Maybe you could post a summary here and the longer version in the fanfic section where it more belongs? :)

When you right in a Where are you now? thread, think of it as a trailer to your fanfic post. Nothing′s like a good cliffhanger!

Quick update,
Niamh and Vilja decided eventually to brave the rain and head out to the nearest inn prior to their next assignment. Upon leaving S'krivva's house Niamh was pleasantly surprised to see this -> http://i798.photobucket.com/albums/yy265/bassmunkee/Oblivion/new_niamh/niamh_night_eye.jpg <- lying on the ground where it had evidently been dropped. Turns out that it quite literally had her name on it and was a constant effect Night-Eye hood to boot. This was handy as anyone who read the previous posting will know that the Night-Eye enchanted helmet she had been using was extremely uncomfortable...
So a swap is in order.
...Handy that.

At the risk of dragging the thread further off course; I think there is a point when a post stops being a brief account of what you're up to and starts being another entity altogether. The post that I posted was NOT a brief account of what N & V had just been doing but actually the first half of a piece of prose regarding a notional event in the recent past. Although it was in the spirit of the thread it was pushing the envelope somewhat in terms of scope in the context of the thread.
I knew that and that was why I put it where I should have put it to start with, and linked it, which I have done before.
If you look at the other posts in the thread - and the historic ones you'll see the patterns they follow. It's not that Mirocu meant that x or y post was inappropriate, he was pointing out the original *idea* behind the thread. It's a summary, with links to pix etc. There's a screenshot thread as well you'll notice - for those of us who like to spam screenies - this thread would have a headline and a brief "Well we killed a bunch of stuff this Morndas" and a link to the pictures in the screenshot thread with your characters standing over the bloodied corpse of The Minotaur of Doom brandishing your +10 Sword Of Awesomsauce.
That's what was meant, and it's a good point too.

What's a cool idea is to - if you are going to be doing a lot of writing about your character - create a thread in the fanfic forum for your character, then you type away to your heart's content there and write a precis in here and link to it. It just makes more sense that way and I normally do that, I just got a bit carried away. I'm sure he didn't mean that we all have to start counting words!!

ANYWAY

After having been given the runaround in Bravil by Rathmoor, who protested that since a transcript of the book in question was required N & V would need to travel to Leyawiin to visit his associate, Niamh decided a holiday was in order and took Vilja to The Shivering Isles.
It's fortunate that Vilja knows Niamh well enough by now to know that her idea of a holiday is not necessarily anyone else's, and in this she was correct - swimming across Niben Bay, and ultimately ending up in an Elytra infested warren would have made Old Vilja very uncertain indeed.
New Vilja however is rather more sanguine about the whole thing...

Bravil, mid-day. My decrepit avatar and Vilja stand just outside Silverhome on the Water, protected beneath the building's awning from a pounding rain. They arrived only minutes earlier, completing not only a road patrol but the final patrol of their current duty circuit, thus earning a 500 septim bonus. They also delivered supplies to one of the city's merchant guild representatives.

The patrol itself was significant only in that the Green was full of vicious minotaurs, several of which managed to ambush them...not that any great harm was done.

Yes I did! Start counting!

Nah, but like you said there is a point where a post more belongs in a fanfic forum. Also as you pointed out, my original idea was just to give other gamers a summary of where your character was and what s/he was doing.

@Federally - I agree with Phon, it′s a good idea to start your very own fanfic thread. That way your character will attract more attention to herself and get the sweet spotlight she deserves because much like Phon, you write really good

I believe that you can. If you like to write and you clearly do, then you are almost obligated to make your own thread there :)

On topic: Lothran is resting at the Jerall View, thinking about whether or not to pull that shift soon. After all, he must live up to his Honorary Guard of Bruma titel

Abecean Sea, about a quarter to a half mile off the Anvil Lighthouse. Baa’s gone a little nuts lately, and today she decided to go for a long swim. She put on the Jewel of Rumare at the Anvil docks and headed west. After a couple of hours swim she was far at sea chasing the setting sun. She came to the surface for a while to take a few photos of the sunset and the distant Anvil Harbor, then she went back down until the darkness of night shrouded everything. She had no compass to orient herself because she had turned off the menus with the console so she could make some Fraps movies. She surfaced occasionally to get her bearings and around midnight she arrived back at the docks to the greeting of her companion who she had left guarding the place.
