My decrepit avatar is about to exit Gottshaw Inn, where he and the gang traveled to collect taxes-due. Vilja, Wolfgang, Groucho and their mounts wait outside.
They have been quite active between reports. Several days were devoted almost exclusively to tracking down ingredients for Vilja. The highlight of this period occurred as my avatar left Weye Manor that second morning, en route to the Arcane University gardens. Much to his surprise, their home was surrounded by villagers, guards and even a few patrolling legionnaires, many with weapons drawn. It seems an intruder had scaled the building just after my avatar had departed his third floor private balcony, where he had taken breakfast. My avatar rushed back inside, up the several flights of stairs, into his bedroom, and onto the balcony. Their it was, an assassin all in glass.
Despite being in his robes (as befitting an arch mage's visit to the University) my avatar drew weapon and prepared to assault the villain. Just then a Manor guard burst through the door and attacked the assassin. In the blink of an eye both guard and assassin had vanished through the door. My avatar followed. The rest of the encounter is something of a blur, so frenetic were the actions of those involved. The assassin led a merry chase, swiftly popping in and out of various rooms as he dodged an ever increasing number of adversaries. By this time the Manor was filling with well intentioned help. It was only a matter of time before the assassin was brought to bay.
So it came to pass. The assassin foolishly attempted to escape via the crowded first floor foyer and there, on the stairwell, expired. Not, sad to say, before felling a villager whose eagerness placed him in harm's way. Thankfully my avatar was on the spot. As Divine Crusader he called upon the blessings of the Nine to revive the fellow before his soul departed to the spirit realm. All's well that ends well.
My avatar allows himself only so much time for personal affairs between patrol and tax-gathering assignments. Next morning they left their Weye abode at first light to gather patrol and mercantile delivery commission in the capitol, then departed for Bruma. This was your standand mundane patrol. Circle the Imperial City via Perimeter Road, leave the Isle via its North Bridge, travel the Silver north to Bruma. Same old same old. And yet...
...And yet this particular patrol assumes a spot amongst to highlights of my current play-through. Not for anything unique or unusual that occurred. They faced the same assortment of Ogres and outlaws as always. It was the quality of execution that makes this patrol stick out far above the norm. Every encounter came off like a well rehearsed play or film. Not a single actor put one foot out of line. My avatar, Vilja and Wolfgang coordinated their combined attacks to perfection. Their foes behaved like proper, thinking adversaries. Everything came off so well I began quietly cheering everyone on -- foes included -- during the final few fights. Did I mention it was one of those stunningly beautiful Nirn-days so beloved by my avatar and myself?
They returned to Weye that same day, slept in the Manor, grabbed new assignments early next morning, patrolled the Gold to Skingrad, then continued on to Gottshaw. I must sadly report that the trek from Skingrad to Gottshaw came off rather poorly from an immersionistic standpoint. Quite a letdown after their previous days' adventures. Ya win some. Ya lose some.
