Pick axe should be by stone quarry right next to your house. If you've picked up and discarded that one, Embershard Mine to the east is your best bet.

Embershard Mine, just next to the Guardian Stones. In the first chamber from the main entrance, next to some iron ore.

You should have all the materials you need to build the small house already on-site once you've purchased the property.

They ought to just rename that thing 'Dovahkiin's Uber Pick'.

It'll be a lighter-colored patch of rock on a rock surface. The one at Lakeview is on the rock wall right near the house, IIRC. Just a few steps from the workbenches.

Well then you didn't look very hard. There's five or six iron deposits that can be mined in there, plus a bunch of already mined ore at the smithing station set up in the large cave. Try getting a torch so you can see better.

When you first enter the mine, you'll cross a walkway with a couple of bandits down below to your right. There will be a pickaxe laying on the ground there, and one of the bandits may be carrying one you can loot as well.

Pretty much any active mine will have one lying about.

The quarried stone has a very high limit (several thousand) before the vein is depleted, but you don't need that much. I'll just mine 30 or 40 at a time when I need them, then stash what I don't use in the chest beside the drafting table and workbench.

Ore deposits in mines give you two ores (plus a random chance for a gem) each time you mine them, but they'll reset every 30 game days as long as you don't re-enter the mine before then.

Actually each vein gives you three ores and a random chance for gems. Don't know why it doesn't display the ore gained from the middle set of swings, but yep, you get an ore. Maybe it reserves it to show if you get a gem?

I'd say there's a lot easier and better ways to make gold than to mine and sell quarried stone.

Embershard is by far the easiest place to get a pickaxe, there's one also in Bleak Falls Barrow and usually there's one in a weapon/armor vendor's inventory.

Can you even sell quarried stone to a vendor? I've never tried. Anyway the more you stash the better if you want to build your other two manor houses, a thousand however is way too much.
