Where did dodge go?

Some kind of dodge maneuver is definitely needed. As a 2-hand wielder it's essential that you can dodge those power attacks, and sometime I can by a simple side-step, but man does it have to be timed. I usually end up just wailing on the other dude with my greatsword while he's wailing on my with his battleaxe or whatever. Not a lot of finesse, which is really a shame. It gets even worse if there are 2 or more opponents. At the point all tactics just go out the window and it's slug-fest. Would be nice if there was a few more combat options than that.

Agreed. Another thing I'd like to see added that would also help alleviate the 2h problem is to be able to cancel your own attack halfway through and block. As it stands, if you want to block an attack with a 2h weapon you almost have to sit around not attacking them and wait for them to make a move. If I wanted combat to be like that, I'd go play Oblivion.

i dodge mage shots and arrows all the time

Some people want cool moves or the game to do it for them anymore. I agree with you....Circle Strafe is King. Been using that method since the 90's....lol

But that doesn't work because the enemy AI is locked onto your character to perfection. One time an enemy with a warhammer was doing a power attack against my summon and I was at his side and attacked him halfway through his attack. He spun 90 degrees midswing and sent me right back to my last quicksave.

What? I play a light armor dual wield character on expert, and I survive by side stepping and dodging power attacks. Some have the common sense to turn with you, but most don't. I'd be destroyed if I never dodged attacks.

There is a perk in light armor that gives you 10% chance to have melee attacks miss you entirely, just like what Morrowind had in a way. Other than that, the dodging you do is entirely manual. I have to do it to survive on my mage and on my light armor warrior. And it's more fun. In my opinion.
