Where did Kantanas come from?,

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:47 am

I was thinking and... there really isn't a Asian country in Tamriel, so where did the kantanas and wackishis (spelling) come from?

It doesn't seem lore-friendly.

Non ES = Japan.
TES = Akavir. Akavir to me seems like a Japanese-esque like continent.

Akaviri Dai-Katana suggest.. Akavir, plus in the quest "Pale Pass" most Akaviri undead wield such weapons, suggesting that they themselves introduced Katana's to Cyrodil.

The blade where first founded by Remans Akaviri dragon guard, notice that weapon's and armour are simular to that of a samurai, and the architecture simular to that of japanese/chinese (not sure which) temples.

Considering that The Blades where founded by Remans Akaviri Dragon guard, which i asume came from Akavir, its probably safe to say that part of Akavir are prominently themed around an asian stiyle.. i wish we could all go to akavir.. it would rock

"I owned at that time an enchanted daikatana, quite a good one, of daedric metal. It wasn't an original Akaviri, not even of design. I didn't have that kind of money, but it served my primary purpose of delivering as much damage with as little effort on my part as possible."
From "Words and Philosophy".

The Akaviri brought them over, and when they were officially inducted into the Empire by Reman I, the Blades were the first to use Akaviri blades (the Katana and Daikatana) and they still use weapons of oringinal Akaviri design. The fighter's guild would also have a long history of using Akaviri weapons, being founded by them under decree by a potentate. There is also numerous other Akaviri weapons around Tamriel, including Throwing Stars found in Morrowind, which could of posibly been first brought over by Akaviri Pirates.

As others have said Akavir. And I would also assume them to come from the Tsaesci.

If you haven't figured out that they're from Akavir from all the posts...they're from Akavir.

edit: On a unrelated side note... they need to hurry up and implement scimitars more deeply into the armaments of TES.

Scimitars? No, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_%28weapon%29.

Perhaps the Nerevarine has opened trade between the Akaviri and the Blades, providing them with plenty of much better-looking katanas.

The High Ordinators and Hands of Almalexia all had scimitars. Both Trueflame and Hopesfire probably count as scimitars, as well.

I don't think they're Tsaesci. In the IL you have this article with a theory about the Tsaesci and the Akaviri humans. It was all right, and i believe the weapons are Tsaesci, but the armor Akaviri men-ish.

That's something that would be interesting to find out: what the Nerevarine found in Akavir. I figure either it's an advanced culture, or an anarchy of a thousand different warlords and clans. It could be we'll never know.

Especially as the Tsaeci prefer no armour as stated by Versidue-Shaie in 2920, because they like having a lot of movement in their fighting.

Muthseras,

The katana seems, at first, to originate from Akavir, however we find an "http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Akaviri_Katana" in TES IV. Additionally, we find a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Category:Oblivion-Weapons-Katanas in TES IV.

We are now faced with the questions of whether (1) the descriptive adjective "Akaviri" makes it such that this blade is an Akaviri version of a katana or (2) that this katana is an original from Akavir. One cannot determine from the context.

We must note, however, that, assuming that the katana sytle of sword originated in Akavir, several Daedric artifacts imitate its style, including http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Artifacts#Ebony_Blade, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Artifacts#Goldbrand, and, although not an "artifact" per se, there have been hints (admittedly spread my me) that Azura, the Mistress of Dawn and Dusk, is the creator of the NON-katana-ish Akaviri http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Shivering:Dawnfang_and_Duskfang.

(Note how this would round out the Anticipations/Good Daedra as having weapons from Akavir, which is, ironically, the last known destination of the Nerevarine.)

There is special difference in katanas and scimiters. A culture that features katanas probably will not cater for scimitars, seeming that katana creation is a very unique prized technique to the culture. Don't forget that Summurset also features katanas.

Hypothetically, I doubt that the Nerevarine did anything at all if he went to Akavir in that short time. It's only been a decade or less, not much could have been done.

Mysterious Akavir sure is interesting though. I'd far more prefer Akavir in the next game, if Beth decides to move off the continent.

How about both? The difference isn't all that important.

Dudes, you're on a different page. Kantanas have nothing to do with katanas. The latter cut you with a bladed edge and come from Japan. The former cut you with non-empiricist critiques of rationalist philosophy. They come from Germany.

No. Just re-read the thread title and OP post again.
