Wasn't there a mention of it in one of the DLC's? Most likely they didn't get far, the fuel could have run out as they were passing over the ocean after leaving the mainland and they crashed.

In my two endings, they came back to novac to help defend the town against the legion. so whatever happened they atleast crash landed somewhere and came back. I never gave it much thought about how the game does a cruddy job of explaining this ....

They are mutant freaks strapping themselves to 200 year old rockets, probably in prototype stage, launching themselves to an undisclosed location in the most unstable launch in space history.

Even if they made it to another planet, they could never land. They could never return to earth.
And I refuse to believe there is some space utopia called Far Beyond or whatever that is. It would be even worse than MZ's aliens.

EDIT: If we are assuming they just land a few miles away, it takes all the point from the quest. And how massacring the ghouls will have Novac massacred as well, I'd say it's one hell of a lousy quest forcing the player to help those idiots to protect a group of humans who have nothing to do with it.

I'm 100% sure that they come back in the ending of the game. I still have a save before the final battle. I could double check. They come back to Novac ...

I bet Jason Bright died or was killed by them when they crashed landed and realized how stupid it was. ROFL.

at least this quest isn't as bad as Tenpenny Tower quest...what a horrible quest, it's like no matter what you did you got the bad end on that one, just wtf.
