Where did you want/think TES:V would be set and why?

Post » Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:38 am

So I know it was practically confirmed to be Skyrim after that Trademark was made, but what was the speculation and opinions of people like before this was found out in regards to the setting?

I personally wasn't expecting Skyrim since I thought after Oblivion, Arena and Daggerfall, and the Nordic architecture and environment of Solstheim and Bruma, they would sortof avoid the European Fantasy style for at least 1 game.

I've thought of it being in Skyrim for as long as I've thought of it at all. Not sure why - its a compelling setting with boundless story potential, and of course there were rumors and hints.

I thought it would be Blackmarsh for no other reason than I thought it would be the most unique province.

Around the time Oblivion came out, I would've guessed either Skyrim or Elsweyr as the setting for TES V. By 2007/08 though, I was fairly certain it would be Skyrim.

Where did I want TES V to be set? I'm happy with Skyrim, but I would've loved to see Valenwood or Summerset Isles (or both). That's what i'm hoping for from TES VI anyway.

There's a good discussion on this here http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1184037-its-set-in-skyrim/page__fromsearch__1 You'll find a lot of feedback there as well.

I wanted it to be set in Black Marsh, but the more I think about it, the less and less likely it seems to me that Argonia will get it's own full game

Like many people here though I pretty much knew it would be Skyrim after Bethesda trademarked it, which is a great choice anyways

When Morrowind was being developed before any trailer or screens were released, when all there was some some concept art and rumors it was already being discussed on fan sites that people from Bethesda were saying the game after Morrowind would be called Oblivion and was rumored to take place in summerset isle. So since Oblivion ended up being the name of the last one but having it take place in Cyrodiil instead I figured when they made a fifth it would be in summerset isle. However I am much more happy with Skyrim being the location though, the setting is much more to my liking darker and gritty.

I never really gave it any thought to be honest. Not once did I think "Hey, the next game should be here."

I actually thought it would be Summerset Isle, mostly because the original info I read on Oblivion was that it would be set there so I figured BGS had just delayed the setting one game. I'm happy it turned out to be Skyrim though, since Altmer have been ugly in TES III and IV.

Tbh though, I kinda hope they actually break with the whole "one province per game" trend because I think Summerset, Valenwood, and Elseweyr would work really well together in a single game. Or maybe have Summerset and Valenwood in one and Elseweyr and the Black Marsh in another. Maybe have the southernmost part of Cyrodiil become contested territory that khajiit and argonians are fighting over, right about the time the Tsaesci return...

I can't remember what I thought before the trademark. All I know is that I had assumed it would be Skyrim for as far back as I can remember. Although, I had always wanted a game to take place in Valenwood. I like trees n' such.

Before the trademark? Don't really remember. I was still fairly new to the series at that point. But i always wanted it to be Skyrim because of Solstheim and the Jerall Mountains. And because i actually prefer the medieval europe setting. Vvardenfell was rather boring if you ask me. Sure you had the swamps and giant mushrooms but most of the map was covered in boring vulcanic ashlands.

Every province is interesting and I love Skyrim and the Nords, but before the trademark thing I wanted Black Marsh. Because it's home.

I would have guessed that they either have the game set in Hammerfell, Summerset Isle, Argonia or Elsweyr. I'm not sure why I though about Hammerfell, but there were rumors about trouble in the other provinces(+ Morrowind, but TES:3 was set there).

I thought it would either be Summerset Isles or Skyrim. I'm glad it turned out to be Skyrim, because that was what I was hoping for. I've been in love with the Nords ever since I came across my first helpless naked one who'd been tricked by a witch in Morrowind
....*cough* Uhm, there is nothing to see here. Move along.

Seriously though, I'm quite the fan of Norse Mythology in real life, so naturally the Nords and their lore interests me as well. And what better place to learn more about them than Skyrim?!

I'm more than happy with skyrim as the location, even more so after seeing the trailer and knowing there is different area's with different scenery.
But if i'm really really honest, they can pick where-ever they like, because the fact is....we are getting another elder scrolls game, and that is more than enough for me. :)

I think Black Marsh sounds like a unique setting...

From UESP WIki: "Black Marsh is a dense swampland region of southeastern Tamriel, home to the reptilian humanoid race of Argonians and a race of sentient trees known as the Hist. Mer races also use the name Argonia, a reference to an obscure ancient battlefield, to avoid the negative connotations of the term "Black Marsh".[1] Argonians thrive in the foreboding swamps of Black Marsh, a lush and threatening land teeming with poisonous plants and violent predators. The region's tropical climate lends its plants the capacity to overturn all attempts to cultivate them. Foreign agricultural, colonial, and commercial ventures beyond the slave-trade have met with abject failure. The native Argonians organize themselves on the tribal level with success and efficiency, and are only loosely integrated into the ruling Empire."

Since it's not totally influenced by the Empire, I think it would have that "alien" feel that helped make Morrowind spectacular. The Hist sounds great. Poisonous plants and violent predators... what's not to like about that? The whole place just sounds foreboding. There's a lot more cool info regarding geography and notable places on the Wiki.

I'm pretty happy it's in Skyrim. I would have been equally happy if it were going to be set somewhere else though. I remember me wishing it being set in any of the Southern provinces, some long time ago.
