Where does Skyrim rank among your all-time favorites?

Post » Sat Nov 09, 2013 3:17 pm

I have liked a lot of games...

no particular order, my favorites

FO3
FONV
Assassin's Creed (all)
Fable I (the rest bite)
Splinter Cell (all) (I have money in my pocket because they haven't made more)
Halo I and II (got tired of it after that, not an online multi-player fan)
Oblivion
Xmen Origins: Wolverine
Star Wars: Force Unleashed (all)
KOTOR (all)
Tokyo Extreme Racer
Donkey Kong Country
Goldeneye
Borderlands I (II was okay)

Edit: forgot, saw in other posts:
System Shock 2
Deus Ex 1
Mass Effect 1 (the rest were OK, just more of the same only not as interesting)

But, for the Number 1 Spot it is:
SKYRIM (I have more hours logged in Skyrim than all the others combined, and that, my friend, is saying something)

Skyrim is definitely in my top 10 games. The replay value is phenomenal. Other games that make up my top ten are (in no particular order) Oblivion, FO 3, FO:NV, DA: Origins, Lost Odyssey, Dragon's Dogma, Suikoden series and Final Fantasy series.

Its definitely up there. I'd say number 1, since TES is my favorite series, and Skyrim is the only one that has me so passionate about events that took place in it, and I think about the game daily, even when not playing it. Up there with it is Fallout New Vegas. I liked Fallout 3's campaign more, but FNV has that sense of belonging with a faction that makes me like it more as well. Didn't much care about the Brotherhood in 3, still don't. But NCR vs Legion interested me, although not nearly as much as Stormcloaks vs Legion. That's what makes a game stay with me, a feeling of belonging with a group or characters. Which is also why Mass Effect and Dragon Age Origins is up there as well.

Other games I like a lot too, but connection with a group and or characters is the most important aspect of a game to me. That's what keeps me from liking things like Dark Souls and such.

Oh and Witcher! Love Geralt!

And Triss...

I'll take a stab at it, but it's tough to pin down.

- Skyrim (absolutely at the peak)

- Bioshock Infinite

- Morrowind

- Mass Effect (pick one)

- Red Dead Redemption

- The Witcher 2

- Deus Ex: Human Revolution

- Fallout

- Oblivion

- Dark Souls

No specific order, but TES V is undoubtedly at the top.

Skyrim is phenominal imho and has replaced a few golden oldies as my number one favorite game. It is an all round incredible experience and the first TES game that I have played more then I have modded.

1. Fallout: New Vegas

2. The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind

3. Bioshock

4. Knights of the Old Republic 1

5. The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings

6. Red Dead Redemption

7. Baldur's Gate 2

8. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

9. Fallout 3

10. Dragon Age: Origins

Some shoddy writing, terrible dialogue, boring factions and a relatively poor representation of Nord culture kept it from being higher on my list. Still loved it though. Although it wasn't even my game of 2011 which was quite surprising considering how big of a TES fan I am, I just personally liked TW2 better.

And to expand on my list generally I think Fallout: NV probably struck the best combination of sandbox/open world and RPG/Deep story for me which is why it is on the list at #1. Same thing with Morrowind except Morrowind did a great job fleshing out the world and culture. Little tiny things like The Literacy Campaign, the Great House political intrigue quests, and the Pilgramage to join the Tribunal made the world feel more 'real' and organic despite being a crazy mushroom land with CHIMsters ruling. Being able to strike a chord between open world and story with a deep culture in this game world that relates to the story makes the perfect game for me.

Skyrim was generally a little too much sandbox/open world and less of RPG/Deep story for my liking with a relatively poor representation of culture. The flavour was good but it didn't strike the perfect balance for me. It's probably the most 'sandbox' of the games except for Daggerfall which I can see appealing to many but not really striking my top 5. Like Morrowind and Oblivion, with mods it's god-tier, but I guess we're reviewing the vanilla versions of the game. It was a huge improvement over Oblivion though and stuff like Markarth and Blackreach are probably some of my favourite environments, places that were not only visually spectacular but also had a very deep and dark story to tell behind the beauty, in gaming.

I have a feeling TW3 will make my top 5 from the route the developers appear to be taking.

If you go by the game I have put the most time into: Skyrim by far. Most disappointing game ever: Dragon Age 2, I expected a LOT more after DA:Origins. They say DA:Inquisition will be more Skyrimmy, but that's a wait-and-see NOT a release-day purchase. The game I'm most looking forward to is Witcher 3 on the PS4. ESO is also hightly anticipated but I don't like the monthly $15 fee once you buy the $60 game.

Therefore, I've mentioned 3 games that have the potential to overtake Skyrim on my list in 2014: DA: Inquisition, Witcher 3 and ESO.

If we are talking vanilla games only, I would say Skyrim is no.1 atm.

Such a variety of different favourites in this thread, just goes to show how personal gaming really is. I feel sorry for developers trying to please everyone.

95% of the games in this thread have at least one of these two things:

Great/Huge Open World

Great and deep story/dialogue

This game is pretty high up there on my list. I'd put Morrowind ahead of it certainly due to a better variety of quests, magic, gear, etc. That might be it, actually. I've dropped numerous hours on this game and am not finished with it by far

Number 1 quite easily for me, no game comes close.

My top 5-
1. skyrim
2. gta sa
3. fallout 3
4. red dead redemption
5. gta vc

It's almost an insult to skyrim to group it with these other games, as great as they are.

I don't really have a top 10. So, here's nine and in no particular order. I like them all for different reasons. However, I have played Skyrim 10x mo0re than any of the others, so I guess it is my number one... for now. Ask me again in a couple of years after FO4 has been released.

  1. Skyrim
  2. Oblivion
  3. Morrowind
  4. FO3
  5. FONV
  6. ME
  7. ME2
  8. ME3
  9. Dragon Age Origins
  10. (?) FO4

I have more time invested into the Elders Scroll series than any other game, or series of games since pong. SKYRIM is definitely in the top tier. I wait patiently for next installment. :tes:
