Where does Skyrim rank among your all-time favorites?

Post » Sat Nov 09, 2013 3:55 pm

I haven't played any Elder Scrolls game before Skyrim and only came across Skyrim this past April, but I'd say it's already definitely up there near the top of the list of my all-time favorites. It has everything a good RPG should have, though it could have done better in the story and character department. The thing about Skyrim is it kind of ruined other RPGs for me lol. There's just so much to do, so much detail, custimization and freedom. It makes it feel like going back to another RPG, they lack most of that. The RPG I've played that comes closest is Dragon Age: Origins, but even that isn't quite as grand. That being said, I think Skyrim would go in my top 5 all-time.

Ehh

In the lower end of top 10 perhaps.

Or top 15 more like.

There's a lot of games that I have had more fun with, like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Hearts of Iron 2, Heroes of Might and Magic III, GTA San Andreas, Fallout series...

Skyrim is a lovely game but one that does not have any real strong points other than its flagship of free-roaming while having no real weaknesses either. I've had 600 hours of it and loved every minute, but there's just something that prevents Skyrim from becoming "the" game for me.

Perhaps it's the lack of real RPG elements, which I value over any gameplay features. Imagine if Skyrim had BioWare level writing, that would be the best of two worlds.

Had Mass Effect 3 ended like it should have it would have without a doubt been my favorite game ever, but the way it turned out the number one post remains vacant for me.

I have had more fun with other games as well, even though Skyrim might be the most addicting game I've played in quite some time. And yeah, if it had the writing of some BioWare games, it would've been the perfect game. But the upcoming Dragon Age is apparently inspired by some Skyrim elements, so maybe that can be even closer to the best of both worlds?

I enjoyed Oblivion more, as it was my first game in TES. But i'd say Skyrim is in my top 20.

Ive been playing video games since the early '80s and this game is definately in my top 5 of all time. If you base it on time played, then its #1.

Number one for me. I don't have much variety in the games I play, so Skyrim wins. Followed by GTA SA, GTA V, and AC II.

It's way up there, top 5 material for sure. I struggle with my game ranking system, because there are so many games that I poured hours into as a youngster but haven't touched in 10+ years - should those games get a vote as well? It's a tough call for me. I can't say Skyrim is #1 flat out, but it's actively dueling with Mass Effect for my favorite, depending on what type of mood I'm in.

I feel the same way, I can't really say my greatest game of all time as my favs as a kid are no longer my favs as a man or any games in between that were great for their time. I will say that Skyrim currently holds the top spot on my favorite list but that will likely change in the future, especially once TES 6 is released with all the pretty perks of being a next gen/PC game. I still have retro love for some classics but it's hard to gauge an 8 bit legend like Zelda against the current king.

Yeah, it can be hard to compare games when you rank some high because nostalgia has a lot to do with it versus other games that are up there because they're legit great games.

Well, in terms of games that I have just played the ever-loving crap out of, it definitely ranks, though I can't really give a numerical value to it. It was my #1 fave game for a long time, and that's about all I can say. Fallout 3 is also on that list, incidentally.

^ This.

I've played The Elder Scrolls since Daggerfall, but Skyrim easily cruised to the top of my "All-time favorite" list. Morrowind falls in at a close second, and Halo 3/Reach are tied for my third spot.

*I haven't come to a consensus yet on numbers four and five... there's a lot of games that could fill in those last two spots. lol

#1: Morrowind

#2: Ocarina of Time

#3: Pokemon Gold/Silver

#4: Mass Effect

#5: Skyrim

#6: Pokemon Red/Blue

#7: Halo CE

#8: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

#9: Oblivion

#10 Red Dead Redemption

HM: Perfect Dark, Super Smash Bros, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Assassin's Creed 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Fable 2, Dragon Age Origins, Fallout 3

I hate making top video game lists, because of course newer games are going to be better than older ones, they've got way more to work with, so you end up having to try and remember how good they were at the time. If Skyrim had come out in 2002 (when Morrowind came out) it would unquestionably be the best game ever, whereas if Morrowind came out in 2011 (when Skyrim came out), it would be reviled for being an ugly, buggy mess of a game.

It's the same thing with like the Pokemon games. I will never touch Pokemon Red & Blue again, despite them being high on my list, because the newer games are just better. Everything runs smoother, there are fewer glitches, the sprites look better, there's more useful Pokemon (every team in R/B consisted of Dragonite, Zapdos, Golem/Rhydon, Alakazam/Genger/Starmie, and then some combination of Persian, Tauros, Snorlax, Chansey, Exeggutor, Cloyster, and Slowbro).

It's in my favorites, I can say that much. Several other games beat it, including some past Elder Scrolls games.

Doesn't come near to my all-time favorites, though.

I'll rank it as I play it, which is very heavily modified and customized. It has just about everything I want in a game now so it's definitely far up on my list of all time favorites. The unmodified version wouldn't make it onto my top 20 list.
