Where does skyrim take place?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:21 am

After doing some research and looking through a couple of websites and putting together what was revealed in the announcement trailer I have a couple of things I have marinated on that I would like to ask.

1. Because skyrim is so closely related but not necessarily a sequel as todd howard has stated before that elder scrolls always start a new can it be inferred that elder scrolls skyrim takes place in tamriel? Dragons are mentioned so wouldn't that mean it takes place in akavir?

2. Has it ever been proven in games pre oblivion that dragons could shapeshift? I didn't play any of the earlier games.

1. Eh...the game is called Skyrim so I guess it will take place in Skyrim?

2. No idea.

TES:V Skyrim...even though it says Skyrim, it's in akavir.

Skyrim is apart of Tamriel by the way...

Skyrim is a province in Tamriel, so naturally it takes place in Tamriel. And Dragons aren't only in Akavir, they are Tamrielic dragons, and maybe Akaviri dragons are invading.
And it is only rumored that dragons can morph. I think.

this is pretty funny...theres just one clue thats missing...skyrim is a province...and the whole trailer seems to mention about the 'awakening' of such dragons

Skyrim is the province directly north of Cyrodiil, over the Jerall mountains. It's the home of the Nords.

look...akavir is reserved for a different game...maybe or some type of expansion (im speculating this) because it is Nerevarine from Morrowind who seems to have sort of perished after journeying in that direction and assuming that he/she made it there is a whole different journey

you know what i have to excuse myself for not noticing the "I didn't play any of the earlier games." srry well akavir is a distant land and the trailer places TESV in the northern lands of SKYRIM...although it is a good perspective and trait to actually look up or take notice of Akavir...that land is only mentioned so often and for you to find out about that land is pretty good considering you have not delved into the realm of the Elder Scrolls universe ever before...dude wait for the next gameinformer issue on January 6 for all of our questions to be answered and look forward for the game

I hope dragons can shapeshift, like in wow you would talk to these npcs who give off a sense of power and later on you learn they were dragons in human form. It was pretty cool.

Thanks man I'm looking forward to it. Is there any way I can get a link to a compendium of some of this good info from the other games?

The Compendium was actually originally a famous Skyrim mage cult called The Pentium, but because it's so cold up there and nasal passages block added to the fact Nords have such a limited vocabulary after 10am when the bars open that it became known as 'Come Pendium' or Compendium.
Amazing what we can learn in the TES Library.

I agree. But also, if I'm on a mission to kill a rat, I don't want it to turn into a frigging dragon in front of my eyes just to state who's really the boss :P

Found a good map of the whole region http://images.wikia.com/oblivion/de/images//a/ae/Nirn-Karte.jpg. Note that Akavir and Atmora is located off the map.
Just to get the sheer scale of Daggerfall, check out http://www.phoenixroleplay.org/index.php?topic=317.0. Sure puts things into perspective, how insanely huge Daggerfall really was. And this was in the 90s.

I wouldn't mind the sense of scale, even if it means less detailed (due to fractal landscape having to be used, together with some sort of auto placement) world than Oblivion. Oblivion is super beautiful, I don't think many will object to that. But it also feels artificially compressed or something. You'd need to be a mountain climber to get up some of the grades that in the game is paved :P

Perished? I assumed they used that as an excuse for not having Akavir destroyed. Remember: the oblivion crisis was not limited to Tamriel, it was the world over. But only in Tamriel could it be stopped. The Nerevarine likely went a long way toward saving the continent in those times.

Only if you look for books, otherwise UESP is god awful for lore, and has led too many instances of being being completely wrong, that I can't keep track of it anymore

Anyway, Skyrim is going to take place in Skyrim. Also, there are Tamrielic dragons, and were taken in by the empire after they fled Morrowind. Tiber used dragons (as seen in Redguard).

After painstakingly going through the work of looking at the title, I have concluded that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, will most likely take place in Oblivion. Er... Skyrim. I said Skyrim!

Yeah that's what I read on dragons that got me thinking about skyrim.

I also think it would be cool if some strange people could shape shift into dragons or............LVL 100 perk Shape shifter perk - shape shift into a dragon at will for 1 min.

Ok and the map made by Arthmodeus......wow. Where is the info that this world is confirmed. I obviously had no idea what I was getting into when I played oblivion.

How much of this world has been used and how? I know there was a game called daggerfall and morrowind (right before my time).

You obviously couldn't use the entire world for one game. What is the world called, it's not tamriel is it?
