Just recently started playing this game again... It's been quite awhile. I own houses in basically every major hold, and right now I'm needing to temporarily release my follower so that I can sacrifice another one as part of a quest.

My follower is Lydia. For some reason I thought she was supposed to return to Breezehome in Whiterun but when I told her to part ways with me in Whiterun I could see her leaving the city to go somewhere else. Any idea where she might be going?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you own any of the Hearthfire homes? I can't remember off hand if she defaults to one of those or not ... just guessing really.
