Where to get a horse for free? : V

Is there anywhere or any way to get a free horse thats yours? I mean without stealing one. I read somewhere about somebody who will give you one if you do a quest for them but I can't remember anything else about it. Thanks.

You can meet an "old friend" by getting to a certain point in the Daarrrrrrrrrk Brotherhooooood.

There's a dead bandit & his horse NW of...Whiterun, I think it was. You can take the horse but it will try to return to the corpse.

Go to Riften and do the quest, "Promises to Keep".

There are several horses in the wild that you can take. Also, it might be because I'm Thane, but I can take all of the horses from Whiterun stables without it counting as theft.

The ones in the wild will run away. Not sure about the ones from Whiterun. I haven't really found much use for the horses since I'm constantly having to climb off of them to attack wolves and such. I just don't use them.

you really don't want free horses. they run away as soon as you dismount.

Every Stormcloak camp I've seen has at least one horse there you can take, and they stay with you. My horse died a long time ago, I've had this cream colored horse from a Stormcloak camp for like 20 levels now

I just checked something and I have to correct myself. The horses outside of Whiterun that I was talking about seem to be related to my Louis Letrush clones. There are 3 clones, and three nearby horses that I can freely take, but the ones from the stable are apparently not free.

Do you happen to know where a storm cloak camp is? I just started the game so I haven't been very many places yet.

weird... mine start walking away after i dismount to enter a city.

it does annoy me a bit that i don't seem to be able to get them into the stable too...

I've looked up the 'Promises to Keep' quest as advised and you get a horse out of the deal. I think I'll either do this quest or try and find one of the mentioned storm cloak camps.

Yeah mine has walked away a few times, but I always find my Stormcloak horse faithfully waiting for me when I return

not sure what really happened to the one I bought, he ran off during a fight a while back .. maybe he died, not sure, but this one is neater looking anyway because it's a prettier color.
