Actually no, i have no idea what to do when you have it on steam. Don't worry, someone else will be able to help.

You want to install Valve outside of C:\Program Files on Windows 7 and Vista to avoid UAC. I use C:\Games myself.
I have to go to the OBSE Readme to remember this, but the Default path for the Steam version of Oblivion is C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Oblivion.
If you are using Windows 7 and Vista and plan on adding mods you want to install Valve to another location, on my PC it would be in C:\Games\Valve\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Oblivion.

Not that hard to do actually.

I don't use mods with any Bethesda game on STEAM - yet. I will with Skyrim eventually.

Most mod related stuff is local to the game directory ... in Steam/SreamApps/common/Oblivion/data

Also read other new user thread for suggestions http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1245057-how-do-i-install-mods/.

Even with STEAM you want to use a mod installer.

I've always associated this whole UAC thing with non-Steam games as I've never had any problems with Oblivion installed to the default Steam directory.

It has more to do with mod tools and utilities and the more advanced mods (beyond just esp and replacers) that have an issue with UAC.

Wrye Bash is an example.

You sound extremely new to this.

have you read the mods FAQ in the pinned thread?

For the mod that required OBMM - are you using OBMM?

Does the esp from said mod also show up in the Oblivion Launcher/data files option. OBMM or Wrye bash are essentially replacements for that, but it is a way to double check ... as is looking in the data folder for the files.

Wasn't that obvious? Nothing bad about being new to this, that is after all why I came here to ask for help.

I read a bit, specially about installing yet its confusing and doesn't seem to have helped with STEAM downloaded games soooo -___-

Yes I am using OBMM

no idea, it shows up with the other things I have installed on the left to be check marked.
Like some mods show up there and some just don't or they don't activate

Also I have been having issues after I have downloaded say a SAVE GAME file, it won't say about needing any other mods so I download it, start it up and it does either 1 or 2 things

Fist thing being it won't show the character model and

Second thing it crashes Oblivion

I have been having alot of these crashes lately and its annoying because than it freezes afterwards so the only way to start up the game again is to remove the mods (of course) but even before that is to shut down the computer-__-

I've never dealt with save game file importing - could be an issue of an OBSE co-save.

If you are using Wrye Bash you can tell what the save game's masters are. I would think that this is not a great idea to experiment with until you get a stable install going.

The language here is all to vague for me to make out:
no idea, it shows up with the other things I have installed on the left to be check marked.
Like some mods show up there and some just don't or they don't activate

What is it?
Don't activate? you mean the esp? Not all mods have esp - some are just texture replacers and so on.

Do not even think of having any game play going on except testing until you both get a bearing on what you are doing in modding the game - and the game stops crashing. Maybe one crash every few hours is worth shooting for depending on hardware and mod load. Until then all characters you create are text experiments.

Everything about modding with steam should be the same - you just remember that the Oblivion/data folder are buried inside all that steam junk.

That's a good advice but not recommended though, because with such long file path you could actually end up being denied to perform any disk activity in Windows.
Instead I suggest to remove the \Games\Valve\ and just have C:\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Oblivion, because when you're installing mods you'll then have a path name like this "C:\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Oblivion\Data\Texture\Races\Imperial\Male\".

If I were the OP I would probably reinstall Steam Client to a new folder especially if you haven't updated Steam lately. The links in bradleyh's sig is quite useful so (ab)use them. :)

The path name limit in Windows is rather long, no?

don't know about win7 or vista, but my experience with xp is about 255 characters (a byte I think it is - like OB's max mods)
Longer than that apps like 7zip or winzip won't decompress files.

I think so too and you may also gonna be able to extract an archive, but not sure if you can store it on your HDD if the path name is to long. Maybe you're right.
