Thehttp://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_4_companions has a lot of info on each companion, and their outlook on life. There's a bar down the page of each character with the heading Range of Interests. Click on [show] to see how they are influenced.
Apart from those who already belong on a side being Danse, Deacon, XG-88, and Preston. For BoS, RR, Inst, and MM.
Piper- so wishy washy she'd do what anybody told her. Just depends who got to her first.
Cait- to anti authority for BoS or Inst, not wishy washy enough for RR. She might respect the MM but is her own gal.
Curie- if she had her choice I'd assume RR for her own personal reasons.
McCready- as a merc he'd be happiest as a courser for the institute. not ideological just they have the nicest beds, cybernetic implants and good pay.
Strong- not sure if any would take him. he'd be at home with the BoS but they'd shoot him on sight.
Codsworth- a bit of a high end snob he'd like the institute as well.
Hancock- not on anyones side but if he had to choose I'd guess RR for freedom and helping the oppressed.
Nick- RR as well possibly MM
I saw you excluded Deacon, X6-88, and Danse for obvious reasons lol but thanks this helps
Nicks all logic hell he even says Brotherhood would be great if they weren't out to kill his kind
This is a reasonably good assessment, but I don't really agree with all of it. Piper would definitely support the Minutemen. She's all about doing whatever it takes to help people. Several of her dialog lines completely reflect this. She always 'likes' it when you immediately agree to help anyone. She always 'dislikes' it when you refuse to help people.
Nick, oddly, typically doesn't 'like' it when you help the Railroad. I see Nick siding with the Minutemen.
I could picture MacCready siding with either the Institute or the Brotherhood.
Aside from that, I agree with the rest.
MacCready HATES the synths. He said so throughout various part of the game, he would be against it completely. RR is out, not to mention they're helping people for free. If there's a choice, it would be Minutemen.
Piper- Minutemen, any other ending and she chews you out.
Cait- Self serving, against synth. She dislikes all factions, they're all too helpful, but if I have to choose, more likely Brotherhood of Steel, even when she dislikes the group itself.
Deacon, Danse, X-6, Preston, Dogmeat, I don't even have to say it.
Strong-Nothing, honestly, no group would fit him and he wouldn't want to be in any of the group.
Curie- Brotherhood of Steel, surprisingly enough. She likes the tech they have and she approves of you joining. She also likes Danse and wants to know more about BoS.
Codsworth- Minutemen.
The game has too many good companions, so most of them would ally with Minutemen.
Danse is an asshat to Curie and that saddens me because I would go BoS if not for the fact that they hate my wife(Curie) my Buddy Nick and I cant reprogram X6-88. If I could save Deacon thatd be a bonus
Everyone is excluding poor Strong from a faction. I'd like to think he could find a home with the Minutemen as a town guard if the player/General smooths over the introductions. Nobody raises a fuss when you have him wandering your settlements, so presumably there is a lot reassuring behind the scenes, like 'Don't worry, this is one of the rare super mutants that isn't going to eat you, even though he talks about. Forgive his culture. He's still got a bit of humanity left in him! And who better to protect you from super mutants than the strongest super mutant in the Commonwealth!?'.
I can imagine the settlers accepting Strong after he doesn't eat anyone for a few weeks. After that, he becomes sort of a town curiosity. People visit from around the Commonwealth just to meet the one friendly super mutant. He enjoys the attention and loves to show off his strength by hefting massive objects over his head. The kids of course, aren't afraid of him at all, and you'd probably see one or two riding on his shoulders. When he isn't showing off for the visitors, he patrols the town perimeter smashing any hostile wildlife that wanders too close. It's a good life. Over the years, he slowly comes to understand what the milk of human kindness is.
I feel Hancock would be all over the MM. They resemble the Followers of the Apocalypse and the two factions definitely both have a "of the people, for the people" type deal.
He states," I dont know why on earth you'd swap me for this... thing" In a disgusted tone.
Strong is the friendliest honestly. On swap from Strong to Danse, "Metal Man good fighter. Kill many brothers. Someday Strong smash!" Danse replies, "Thats never gonna happen, mutant." Seems Strong respects those who are strong. I love when he says, " Strong wish you were Super Mutant" or "Youre like brother to Strong." " Strong wish he understand you better."
X6-88 to Danse, " You have both the training and equipment to handle this mission. The Institutes future is in good hands." Danse replies, " Dont mistake my tolerance of your existence for friendship, Synth. We have nothing to say to each other."
Piper to Strong, "Jeez, you Mutants are not much prettier up close." Strong killed it with, "Strong say same about little lady." *dead*
It sounds like a threat. Kill many brothers as in he killed a lot of Super Mutants. Someday Strong Smash as in "smashing Danse in".
The only companions I've traveled with enough so far in the game to get a solid opinion from are MacCready and Deacon, and going by their commentary in the game...
MacCready - contrary to what other posters said he only supports the Minutemen, and will say he thinks their cause is a good one. He's creeped out by synths and doesn't approve of self-sacrifice so he's not about the Railroad. I imagine he sees them as bleeding hearts more than anything. He doesn't like the Brotherhood - he mentions something about them 'taking over' the Capital Wasteland and is clearly unhappy with them being in the Commonwealth too. And he's definitely not about the Institute. Doesn't like synths and is generally suspicious of science, especially when it goes into potentially unethical territory (a comment he makes on doctors shutting off their morality comes to mind).
Deacon - obviously he's about the Railroad and anti-Institute. He mentions how the Brotherhood were actually doing good in the Wasteland once but now not so much. I imagine that speech he gives you about how you should pay attention to what a faction is actually asking of you, versus what their rhetoric says, is largely directed toward them. He respects what the Minutemen are about but is wary about that much power being in the hands of a few - a valid concern, IMO, considering what can happen when just one goes bad, like in Quincy, or on a larger scale, what happens with the NCR (my knowledge of Fallout lore is pretty shaky, but I imagine their roots resemble the 'present-day' Minutemen pretty closely).
Interestingly these two seem to get along okay. They'll criticize each other (and both make fair points, actually) but will also tell each other to stay safe.
you'd think so, but he makes a negative remark about them when you travel to the castle with him. i can't remember the exact line though.
That would be so cool. Given that settlers are prone to lynching synth settlers (I wish I could have recruited Jenny as a settler, but then I realised that her life would probably be in danger daily as a settler), though, I doubt they'd be too open to the idea, but then it's easy to lynch a single settler, and another thing entirely to take on Strong.
Does anyone know if Codsworth has any unique dialogue when meeting Shaun?
From what I can tell from the wiki and what I played of the game so far;
Cait-BoS (I think she's neutral regarding them until the Prydwen arrives)
Codsworth-Neutral
Curie-Railroad
Danse-BoS and Minutemen
Deacon-Railroad
Hancock-Railroad and Minutemen
MacCready-Minutemen
Valentine-Minutemen
X6-88-Institute
Strong-Neutral but loves you killing the Railroad
Preston-Minutemen and Railroad
Piper-Minutemen and Railroad
Its a backhanded compliment. Basically Strong is always looking for a challenger to fight. He respects strength and loves to fight. I love him, like a big green teddy bear of death.
