Where should Fallout 4 take place?

Post » Sun Jan 24, 2010 3:32 pm

Like I said, it was actually pretty cool that way. You'd go through the first half of the game with everybody fighting with spears, knives, simple firearms, etc. Then later in the game when you see your first supermutants and BOS and somebody breaks out a minigun or an energy weapon you're like, "HOLY CRAP, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?!?!" And then you realize that there's all of this technology that's either been forgotten or hoarded while everyone else is living in the bronze age and barely making it. I dunno...it just made all of the tech seem a lot more mysterious and special somehow...and the government conspiracies seem that much more insidious.

That sounds more lke my cup of tea.
Slow progression is what Fallout 3 should have done as well.

I saw it should be set in Alabama.

Saw where? :o

I'd love it to be set in NYC, or London. Or CARDIFF.

Ok maybe not Cardiff.

New York City or Los Vegas could be quite interesting.

It has to be somewhere in California. There are references to California throughout Fallout 3 regarding the Brotherhood of Steel.

Here's an idea...have the character in Fo4 his several areas....kinda Deus Ex style...hit say maybe San fran to start, and move to the midwest, stop off in D.C. for those who actually get nostalgic for Fo3, and then maybe on to Paris? london? Would love to see how the rest of the world did...not terribly fond of the U.S. centric thing.

You mean references to Fallout 1 and 2.

I'd rather have a contiguous map, like FO3.

I have a few ideas that could be very interesting to see for fallout 4. (if some one suggested these then I missed em and I'm sorry)

First one I Was thinking about, would take place moments before the great war, maybe even a week before the war starts. Could start you off at the age of 10 if you wanted, and have it show the panic and fear of trying to get to safety and have the quests revolve on you getting into a vault with your family. Lets say you have a sister your holding onto trying to get threw the masses of people trying to get into the vault and you get in but loose your sister in the crowd. the vault shuts, and for what ever reasons a crucial part breaks down after so many years and they can't produce enough pure air so they start saluaging parts, and this could be tied to a quest teaching you new construction system of sorts i guess. then they are forced to send someone looking for replacement parts and you offer to go but they won't let you go which could leave you with options on how to get out either sneaking, violence, hacking, or charm your way out. your hidden agenda is to find your sister or find out what happened to her. I would have you spend 10 years in the vault so that time has settled and allowed for some growth. I would think that not all areas were affected right off, so there would be over growth like vines and such all over buildings and structures. Make it so that towards the end of the game you are forced with choice that could destroy your heart or to set fourth more nuclear destruction which causes china's fail safe systems to fire off more nukes over the mid west. Locations? Iowa would be cool, des moines is a nice city as well as some of its subburbs like urbandale. Chicago would be cool for the massive amount of people and panic with the closed in feeling from the city, some where mid west i guess.

Second one is just a idea on location, like say japan? you could play survivors of a us military base that form a b.o.s. like faction and you go out in search of supplies, tech, and survivors. From here you are not too far from china, could always do missions into china via boats. could have Tokyo mostly flooded or sectioned off by water, search flooded buildings and such. maybe introduce a grappling hook or roping system to allow transfer across roof tops? just ideas.

He actually raises a good point I would like to see something like that. same with the rope and grappling hook but maybe even Ladders? maybe they could use something that was already in a fallout game maybe play as a ghoul? raider even? and also the first and second idea of AidanZon could be mixed together and a Pre-war Post-war thing could be good or maybe during the war like you would have to try to survive?

I'd like to see the next Fallout take place in Seattle. A rainy city (acid rain? yeah!) with perhaps a bit more techological futuristic theme. Still keeping with the basics of the Fallout theme of course, but going with higher technology. The physical location of the city would also be a major advantage. It's closest to Alaska where the war began and on the west coast where it's a little closer to China than Washington DC was. I think there are some serious creative potential with using Seattle as the location for Fallout 4. Think about it.

Where do you guys think it should be?

I'm guessing you live in Seattle. I don't think it would be a good idea, because Seattle doesn't have many landmarks, and isn't really as recognizable of a city as DC.

I would absolutely say the commonwealth for sure. It's the only place outside of the Capital Wasteland that is mentioned a lot in the main game. The commonwealth is in Massachusetts, and I guarantee you "the Institute" is MIT. So it will probably be set in the general area of Boston.

Personally, I honestly don't care :P That might be something to do with not living in the US, plus my geography svcks. As long as the world it is set in is convincing enough, I'm good. That probably comes from the isometric style of the originals, you didn't get to see alot outside the preset locations, plus I don't think it would matter as the bombings pretty much disfigured everything. Although maybe I shouild pay more attention with the new persective from the 3D fully interactive environments Bethesda is providing the series with. I admit I want to goto D.C now, just to see if the more notable locations are to any sortof accurate scale with the game :P But honestly I don't mind as long as it all makes sense and the settings have the potential to provide something special.

California personally..... preferbally Santa Clara Valley lots of bad things around here in this little may he co land you call san jose.... not just that but maybe oregon? or even ALASKA (just a small little add-on continueing Operation Anchorage(Note the fact you dont go through any training nor cool cut scenes from the start of Operation Anchorage via. the parachute could have started inside a plane lol)

somewhere in the GREAT LAKES area? maybe the annex of Canada? or maybe that should be the other DLC "Canadian Annex" (just a thought) or even live as a Enclave soilder for a fallout 4 game or DLC (doesnt matter~) Life after you contain project purity?

Or the days before you were born via before megaton was made or tenny pennt tower was founded.....Even before the BoS was founded (not sure if they were made during the Liberation of Alaska)
