Where should Fallout 4 take place?

Post » Sun Jan 24, 2010 5:25 pm

London would be AMAZING to see completely wrecked and crawling with enemies..

It wouldn't be very realistic though. I think if it did fit with the story then it would be the best place to have the game.

Actually in response to my previous post I think most big cities would have been the first ones bombed, so I don't really know where it should be, but it definetly should stay in the US.

Theres so many places they could set it, it'd be pretty hard to guess where its gonna be set. Who knows it might even be in 2 or 3 cities???

And besides, it took 4 years to make Fallout 3, its likely Fallout 4 wont be released until 2011 or 2012, hell, it could even be 2013 for all we know...

I'd like to see the next Fallout take place in Seattle. A rainy city (acid rain? yeah!) with perhaps a bit more techological futuristic theme. Still keeping with the basics of the Fallout theme of course, but going with higher technology. The physical location of the city would also be a major advantage. It's closest to Alaska where the war began and on the west coast where it's a little closer to China than Washington DC was. I think there are some serious creative potential with using Seattle as the location for Fallout 4. Think about it.

Where do you guys think it should be?

i 100% agree seattle would be awesome. the BOS could use the space needle for a hideout.

Since we know for a fact there will be a Fallout 4. The question shouldn't be where, but when. It seems every sequel has had a significant time gap. In Fallout 3 things went 200 years after the Great War. Will Fallout 4 be projected 50 years into the future after Fallout 3? Will we see what happened to a potential relationship between the Lone Wanderer and Sarah Lyons, since some plot holes are to vagrant to be allowed their existence, or will the Lone Wanderer fade away, unlike the legacy of the Vault Dweller. In that case, will you be some kid from a settlement, like Rivet City or even a colonizing Vault 101?

Haha. Those are viable questions. But may need an entire thread altogether as this is the 'Where' should Fallout 4 take place thread. :P

What I'm curious about is if the next Fallout would have to be limited to a single state, as in the case of the Capital Wasteland. It's possible to have a game spanning the length and breadth of the United States, but instead of one gigantic map, the game would have be divided into large (but relatively smaller) maps and the player would Fast Travel between each one (similar to the original Fallouts, or for a more recent example, Mass Effect). I'm wondering if new fans would be closed off to this idea. Immersion-breaking concerns and such.

There is no way it should be anywhere outside the U.S. Fallout is about the fifties culture of McCarthyism and the general fear of Communism. The propaganda that it was based on would not exist outside the U.S.

It's Fallout, it can exist outside the U.S. if Bethesda wants it to. But maybe on some island left almost untouched by the war? I mean, of course radiation would have reached it, but the terrain would be intact.

It could be regarding a Resource Wars country, with their own set of propaganda.

The fifies propaganda in e.g. communist countries and fear of imperialist capitalists was remarkably similar.

You know, Hawaii might be an interesting case. Isolated from the rest of the nation, yet still within US borders. It would still develop its own separated culture.

All the same, we'll probably end up in a US city. If they go for something with recognizable landmarks like DC, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a ruined New York City.

Or, perhaps we can go back to California, and see how that place has been doing since we left in Fallout 2.

...why is that a problem?

They'll be speaking Chinese, but we'll be hearing it in English. Ever seen The Hunt for Red October??!? Jeez, use your imagination.

New York. Hollywood would be nice, maybe, Canada?

Maybe it could START in one place, then there would be a train ride or something, and you would play out the rest of the game in that location.

You know, Hollywood would actually be nice. However.. I'd really love to see a futuristic looking city like I assume Seattle would look like (at least partially intact). Colorado.. meh. They really need a location partially surrounded by suburbs that would've been wiped out for the most part, like DC was. Like I think NY would be a complete mess.. especially if they have knocked down buildings that block the streets.. and a player would soon get lost and angry (its happened to me before <_< )

I really don't know much about the layout of Seattle. But it sounds right to me.. woop woop. Boston would be interesting though. Perhaps some sea travel still exists in post-apocalyptica, eh?

Also.. I think there should be storms. http://www.myconfinedspace.com/watermark.php?src=http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/947221-where-should-fallout-4-take-place/wp-content/uploads/2006/04/pa27.jpg

Maybe ..
Chicago, with literally, a war going on, downtown D.C. is called a "warzone" but it is really rather mild,
I would like, literally, a larger , Chicago version of The Mall, with a MASSIVE war going on.
Or, the option to like .. join the Raiders and actually go on raids, Become a BoS member and protect settlements,
I'd like to see much more detail into Super Mutants.

Fallout Tactics was set in that area. The city itself is destroyed, with Midwestern Brotherhood's Bunker Alpha, as well as various tribal villages and raider camps being located in its vincinity. By 2277, that area is probably all under the Midwestern Brotherhood's control.

i completly agree with ur idea of a real war. it should be set thirty yrs ago when the brotherhood met the enclave. im talking full fledged war. But a single city shouldnt be what they do it. L.A. baby. 2 citys 2 full on wars 2 characters 2 time periods. chicago: enclave V. brother, equal wepons and other tech, L.A.: enclave and brotherhood V. chinesse invasion force, asian super mutants. the chinesse should hav contact with china so you get an idea of wat china like which could lead to FO5 being in china. but the other ideas suc. to warcraft. but karma should have an actual effect on main gameplay. the main city should be way more open, the sub ways are bull, they shouldnt be only way to get around. some pre-war flash backs and way more about brotherhood and enclave history. you should take part in real battles and pick sides. i mean beteween enclave and brotherhood death to the commies.enclave should have real leader. and you should be able to kill kids

The Brotherhood never fought the Enclave in Chicago. Chicago/Midwest was covered in Fallout Tactics, and it's where the rogue Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel faction resides.
