WHere should I stash my gear?

Post » Fri Mar 19, 2010 2:48 am

Hey all, I havent played this game for a loooong time. Can I just stick the extra 40 pounds of stuff I don't need for dungeon crawling anywhere? is there a good spot for a stash early game? Im using heavy armor and 2 handed weapons, so weight is at a premium

Most containers will respawn their contents every three game days, but some are safe. Early game? The Market District will work. Every single bag and sack of every type that is outdoors in the Market (and Arena) Districts is safe non-respawning storage except one: the beggar's food sack next to Simplicia's bedroll. Early on, I just stick stuff in the bags in front of Jensine's shop.

Oh, if you need a free place to sleep in the area, just join the Arena and use the bedrolls in the Bloodworks.

If you have an unmodded PC game then use the imperial Prison Sewer Exit as a dumping spot. I am assuming this also will work on a console. You need to watch out for interiors that respawn and most of the containers in game. I liked to use Jauffre's chest in Weynon Priory as an early place to store loot.

I generally use the chest Jauffre gives you early on. This will only work if you're doing the main quest, of course, but you won't run the risk of forgetting which container you used, and there are usable beds nearby, meaning you can use the priory as something of a house too.

I use the hollow tree stump in the Market District, near to the sewer entrance, it's safe and is only used as a dead drop for the DB and you should be set up before you get to that stage. If you're looking for a free bed there's one in the Arena District against one of the outer walls, Beggars don't use it as there are none in the Arena District.

the ghost ship in anvil is where i make my home until i buy a house. once the ghosts are defeated, good place to call home. the captain chest doesn't respawn and it has a bed.

I never used containers early in the game. I never trusted them. I always selected a location somewhere in a building which would never respawn and then just dumped the items on the floor. They always remained there.

My favorite before acquiring a house.

I tended to use Weynon Priory as my "home" early on until I can get some sort of house early on, but these days I sometimes use a mod-added house that is free (like Sousmarine Manor). I don't use it all the time (its quite out of the way unless you're near Anvil), but itsn ice having a place to stow loot until I buy a more centralized house).

I used respawning containers. I'd advise that you listen to everyone else. :)

Isn't the hollow tree stump mod-added? I coulda sworn that I can't find it now in my vanilla setup...

(Can't confirm ATM, just got back from work and too tired to play :))

No, the stump is vanilla and supports the Dark Brotherhood questline. It does reset once if you are doing that questline, but aside from that it is safe. It is located in the Market District near the sewars entrance between buildings over behind Edgar's Discount Spells.

I also like to use the Market District sacks as an initial base, though I use the ones in front of Slash 'n Smash/Glided Carafe so as to avoid the flea-bit beggar entirely. I switch over to Weynon Priory or the Marie Elena before too long though.

While I'm here... *blasts Nash Muhandes with Shotgun Ammo*

(Sorry... been playing a bunch of FFVIII recently) :)

I don't really see the point in stashing stuff early on. I just carry a bow, a blade of some kind (usually a dagger), a couple of potions (I usually sell everything that isn't a healing potion) and whatever armour I have on. Everything else gets sold off as soon as I aquire it, so there's really no need for me to stash anything unless I want to go dungeon diving without any armour. The only things I ever stash are my alchemy equipment and ingredients, but I usually don't get into alchemy until later in the game, and by then I've got a house.

As others have pointed out, many storage locations re-spawn. I nearly lost a ton of stuff by "assuming" the empty chest in an Inn was safe, simply because it was empty. A three-day test provied otherise.

May I recommend this for the PC:
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=5941
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27656
Cliff's Personal Guild Storage Chest

Puts at least one non-spawning chest in every Mages and Fighters guild office location (just look for "storage chest" ID when going from room to room, usually on the second or third floor).

No one will disturbe the stuff in it, doesn't re-spawn, holds tons of stuff. Highly recommended.

If you're on a PC, get a good house mod that meets your needs. If it's competently constructed (and the ones that aren't usually have no downloads, or tons of complaints), it'll have plenty of safe containers. I suggest TES Nexus, and searching on houses.
