Where should TES5 take place?

I like the idea of Hammerfell or Valenwood, I like predominant Elf or Human culture, but have some sense of the real world (seasons, which Skyrim would lack). Share your thoughts...

For me, Skyrim, because...

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=985390&hl=.
It's politically divided up into separate city-states which translates to massive political opportunities.
It has the best of both worlds for craggy mountainous terrain and temperate river-valleys.
Nordic theology and perspective is hitherto only slightly fleshed out and hella interesting to boot (Kalpas anyone? Shor anyone?).
There are numerous already-established points of interest to work in or revisit, such as the Labyrinthian and High Hrothgar/Snow-Throat.
All your Greybeards are belong to Skyrim (and I want me some Thu'um).
Were-creatures get a well-expected and likely comeback.
Provincial borders are potentially a lot more interesting (conflict and tension at Dunmereth Pass?)

And because I've spent so much time writing suggestions for TES:V assuming Skyrim that I've grown quite accustomed to the idea.

Skyrim, I think ThatOneGuy said some of the main reasons for why it would be great. I just hope people would stop thinking that Skyrim is your stereotypical Ice-Age/North-pole place when it is so much more.

Summerset Isles. If not that, then anything, although I've come to realise that Skyrim would actually be a very interesting province. The snow in Oblivion was interesting enough, but if a whole province was like that then it would be boring. However, if they were going to have a snow province, they would make the snow look better than that, and as people have posted above, it is not a complete snow province anyway.

I voted Summerset Isle, although it's really "wherever the next chapter of the story unfolds."

My favorite 2 are Elsweyr and Summerset, i suspect that they have quite the alien flora, not like Cyrodiil, where everything was related to RL Earth.

Anybody want to hear the Elsweyr/Elsewhere joke? :lmao:

I vote Valenwood. I want to see the Silvenar.
In fact I would like it if it was to take place in 2 provinces - like in Daggerfall - in which case I'd like a Valenwood/Elsweyr combo, so it can feature all the different breeds of Khajit too.
I'd like Skyrim the least - it smells way too generic.

Ok, we've already seen Solstheim and the Jerall Mountains. I wan't all that impressed. I'm just afraid that the next game will become as generic (or more) as Cyrodiil was in OB. After failing to take advantage of the most "political" province in the Empire for an "involved" game and turning it into a simple hack-and-slash action title, what can we expect from what's probably the least politically self-aware and most barbaric province outside of the outright wastelands?

I really wish that OB had taken place in Skyrim, because that would have provided a good excuse for a mindless "hack and slash" game, while leaving the heart of the Empire for another time and hopefully a little more intrigue and sophisticated dialog from the developers. Skyrim is likely to be even more "dumbed down" and meaningless, and I'm already seriously debating whether or not I'll waste my money on it like I did on the last game, at least until it hits the discount rack at $19.95 or thereabouts.

Summerset Isles would be my hope, although I'd love to see it take place in Argonia or Elsweyr, just for the unique and interesting settings. I don't want to see another "Medieval European" culture in flimsy disguise, whether that's influenced by Viking or Nordic traditions or just as bland and generic of a setting as Cyrodiil was turned into, or another LoTR semi-ripoff.

People, along with myself have just assumed it's like the North Pole, 'cause Bruma, which was right on the border, was all snow, Bethesda just kinda painted a fake picture of Skyrim by making Bruma Live in January all year long.

It's not all snow and ice...

For me, Skyrim, because it's all snow and ice.

Who ever said cold climates make for bad gameplay?

Has anyone ever noticed the similarities between "Elsweyr" and "Elsewhere"? Symbolism, or just not creative?

Tell that to the developers. I voted for Elsweyr simply because I want to see the Khajiit fleshed out more, and I want to see how well Bethesda can transition from jungle to desert without any more Talos renevation mainstreaming.

What would I like to see, based on interesting geography? Either Hammerfell or Elsywer; I think a desert setting would be interesting.

What is it likely to be, based on Bethesda's actions? Skyrim, as they have a trademark on the title.

What should it be, based on the lore? Valenwood. Read the 'current events' section in the PGE for each province, and tell me the Valenwood entry isn't trying to build up to something significant.

So I voted Valenwood.

For those who feel that certain provinces may be subject to, shall we say, dilution and neutering of all things interesting... Keep in mind that every province or location out there is affected by the same caveat. Nowhere is safe from the threat of simplification and cliche. The threat applies to everywhere equally.

It's hard to say. I'd love to go to Skyrim as I love the Nords/Celts in real life, as well as cold climates. However, the Summerset Isles would be interesting too, assuming they have a Mediterranean-esque climate (as is hinted in Arena). My only real complaint with the latter is that I hate the Altmer so much. :stare:

For every person who thinks the Nords are anything like any of the Celtic races, the more I want the game to be in the Summerset Isles <_<

But Skyrim would be a good idea, because the Altmer remind me of Italians :D

Valenwood would be cool, but its going to take place in Skyrim...

I would have wanted Valenwood because i want to walk around on a mobile tree O.o
Also i want to learn a little more about the bosmers... strange rituals.

I actually voted for Hammerfell, but I honestly really don't care where it takes place as long as it has a full-fledged desert region. We haven't had a true desert in any of the main TES games since Daggerfall.

I think there can be an explenation for why Bruma is Snowy when places longer north aren't. As a Norwegian I see every winter how the climate varies from inland to coast, and from valley to mountain. Bruma lies in the inland and far from any coast it is also on the top of the Jerall Mountains, so it is perfectly natural that there is snow there. On the other hand, places like Solitude and Winterhold lies on the coast where the climate might be completely diffferent and most likely will be more or less quite temperate. This goes also for valleys, where according to ingame books it is possible to grow wheat and corn.

As for the argument that Bethesda could screw it up big time, I believe this would go for most provinces. Actually I believe that places like Black Marsh, Valenwood and Elsweyr could just as easily be made stereotypical swamps, jungles and deserts.
