So where is it stated that The Courier will fight AGAINST Ul

I'm just a little curious as to why everyone thinks that Ulysses will fight against the Courier. The line states that the two couriers fought "beneath the old world flag" with a message for the other. But couldn't that mean that they fought together under the flag against someone else? Just some food for thought...

It comes down to your interpretation of that line I took the message for each other part to be opposing views but fighting together is an interesting thought

I'm hoping after the DLC story is over we can take him back to the Mojave as a companion like he was meant to.

The Merge's ending slider for Dead Money says:

Spoiler

"The new voice did not think of the Courier again until the battle at the Divide reached his ears.

The battle between the two couriers, beneath the torn skies and the Old World flag... Each bearing a message for the other.

And the mutant prayed the Courier that had saved him... Had been saved in return.
"

Actually, this raises an interesting question as to how the Ulysses DLC will pan out.
Will it be required to play through the other DLC's first if we have them?
Will it take place after the main quest line in a new area?
Or will it be playable at any time despite the contradictions?

Why I ask is because of The Merge's slider.

What happens if we do Ulysses DLC before Dead Moneys?
Since if we do this DLC "before" we save DoGod then it contradicts his ending slider.

Like, we do the DLC.
The battle happens.
We save DoGod.
Spoiler
And then he hears about the battle at the Divide?

How does that make any sense?
The battle between Courier Six and Ulysses has already happened then.

It does make sense. I think they put in the words "reaches his ears". The battle at the Divide will become a wasteland legend, and Dog/God will hear about it after some time (weeks, months, years), so he'll only think about the Courier again until he finally hears about the battle at the Divide. He probably doesn't know if the fight took place before or after the Courier saved him, he just hopes the Courier is unharmed.

In typical Fallout fashion, im guessing there'l be more than one choice, either to side with him, or kill him.

''Ulysses'' means ''Wrathful'', the developers have to be trying to say something with that, so I think there will be some kind of fight between courier and Uly-pully.

To answer the OP's question

Spoiler

strongly suggests they are fighting each other.

And Ulysses probably has more to do with it being Latin (AKA the language of Caesars legion) for Odysseus

Ulysses is also the 3 of clubs.
All the clubs in the deck are members of Caesar's Legion.

wait wait now. When I see this:

Spoiler
The battle between the two couriers, beneath the torn skies and the Old World flag... Each bearing a message for the other.

I don't necessarily see "battle" as gunning each other down. More like test of will, test of strength. "Pray the Courier had saved him"... saved him from what? Note, it doesn't say "pray the courier had SPARED him", but SAVED him. Saved him from himself? Saved him from some kind of mind-control? Maybe both Couriers are forced to fight each other in a Legion arena. A thousand variables. Not necessarily "hunt down Ulysses and have a big fight". Because that would be a bit of an anticlimix tbh
