where is the Asian stuff? and why is armour gender morphing

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:09 pm

But the Blades armor/weapons are based off of Akaviri armor/weapons, so there is definitely Asian influence in there.

I can see the boots, legs, gloves, and swords being influenced, but the chest and helmet parts are clearly Roman. I'm just trying to point out that it's not so completely Japanese as most people seem to believe.

And I know the orsimer have a lot of feudal Japan, and Mongolian going on, and it has been like that since MW. But like I want to keep stressing, it's more than just Japan this and that.

The Orsimer have a wee bit o' Asian influence as well.

Let's also hope that the Orcs fight a bit like the Mongols, eh :hubbahubba:

Honestly, I don't really care how the armor looks as long as the gameplay is good.

Also... it says Bandit Outfit, Female [Variant]

Could just mean its the Female variation of the armor, but it could also mean there are variations of the female armor. Perhaps the regular is more conservative. I know that could go either way, but maybe that will give some of you a little hope if you don't like that look very much.

That would certainly be interesting, though they would have to stray from what they've shown Orcish tactics are like so far. Not that I'd be against that or anything. ;)

Well Morowind;d clothing and armor had no female version except for thous added in Bloodmoon, but thous where good - both changing enough four you to understand that you are looking at a woman, but not enough to make it a different armor. And the official "domina" while had high heals and distinctly fetish look still covered all the skin and was quite convincing for a light armor that someone may be wearing mostly in cities :)
So yep, it count as being better I guess, peaty Skyrim had to degrade form that.

Chimer_Warrior - a woman in criminal camp that uses her "asset"s ends up being used as a toy, not rubbing people on the roads, criminals are harsh people and don't look to please a woman usually, you are either dangerous enough to be reckoned with, or a pray. As for bandits in doors... Sorry, but aren't they supposed to rub people on the roads? As in every game we played so far? What, now they rob people in taverns? :D Won't be easy to hide form guards that way.

All this cleavage is certainly offensive, and who has that avatar of the naked chick with big [censored] ?

HOLY CRAP NO, i hate everything asian styled always exaggeratedly ultrashinyhypermegapowerful. A few armors and weapons would be totally fine if they go realistic, nothing like your standard AsianMMO.
I'm not worried anyway because it is not Bethesda's thing and they know it doesn't fit.

Dude, they mean asian-inspired armours. Obviously Bethesda is not making an asian f2p mmo trash. Look up some real asian armours they aren't anything like they are in those stupid asian mmo games.

It makes no sens to me - it's Skyrim, as in -40 cesium easy, so no kind of naked skin on anyone but berserker makes sense,

The visual design of the game is different yet reminiscent of the past with every TES. Weapons won't look like they did in Morrowind, either. Nor will look the way they did in Oblivion.

In a more or less lawless town/tavern. There is also the possibility of bandits in caves and dungeons... actually its almost certain.

Of course... if this were real, we wouldn't even be talking about female bandits. I mean, that isn't to say women can't be bandits, but as you say, criminals are harsh people, and they wouldn't treat a women well at all, even those tough enough to take care of themselves would find themselves prey more often than it might be worth it to be a bandit. Its kind of the same reasoning behind why there were very few female pirates, and the ones there were basically pretended to be men.

Also... when I think of female bandits I tend to imagine them more in line with the swashbuckling or robin hood types, those with a little more noble cause to themselves and also those that use their charm as much as their weapons. Certainly not realistic in the least, but its also a fantasy game. We had at least one bandit like that in Morrowind. :)

[quote name='jack254' timestamp='1296087392' post='17071126']
in morrowind i loved that daedric/orish samurai look . in oblivion they scraqed that and everything was western. orcish, elven and daedric SHOULD look asian (or at least not western) judging by the pics of the orcish and elvish armour i think they are a little over the top. i cant realy see orcish because its too dark. but its either Asian or some demonic looking armour worn by a Tolkien inspired orc . elven looks too western. i am pretty sure altmer are supposed to be more asian (because they have katanas and kimonos)

secondly- judging by the pictures of the women wearing gold armour and the female bandit. i think armour will be gender morphing again- this saddens me. i want skirts for men and trousers for women- and i hate armour having boob cups.

wtf, why did I end up with my respond in this box :S

Its several hundred years after Morrowind though, things change in such a long time I guess... I loved the orcish armor in Morrowind, but its time to move on. Skyrim is a new chapter, and consept art is just a guideline for the developers, thing always can change from the drawing board too inn-game, so Im excited about the new armors, as long as they look better than the Oblivion ones.

Well, I'm no schollar of humanities but it seems to me that every major culture of earth had some influence in oblivion except for Arabian culture.

The akavir are the east, the imperials are western, the nords have scandinavian influence, it seems the beast races and the redguards have more of an ancient possibly african or celtic influence mixed with some fuedalism and the mer are something all their own for the most part, something derived from european fantasy or germanic fiction.

Anywho, if we're going to complain about some culture not getting their fair shake in TES it would seem to be arabian cultures that get the shaft. Where are those big curved blades? It seems like the only thing even similar would be those big gold Dwemer armors. I think it would add a style that is different than any other in the game and it would be pretty cool to see.

What influence do you see in Orcish weapons and armor or culture that relatess to the real world? I don't see any but I'd like to know if you guys do. Elvish gear always seemed to me to come from the bosmers, if only because they look almost organic and leafy but not made of wood.

God i hate JRPGs... TES is my favorite western RPG...

if you want more JRPG elements then Final Fantasy is your game...

Personally i think the armor looks fantastic. I give Bethesda two thumbs up on creating some stunning sets of armor...

I don't mind molded armour I'm busy throwing fireballs around so i can happily suspend my disbelief at how effective it is versus how it looks

However I hope it molds correctly to the new adjustable figure we are supposed to be able to have - in other words my petite Breton does not want armour that turns her into looking like a Nord Amazon

I'm going to hold in my first response to this, since it'd likely spark a debate that would get nasty fast; enough to say that the cultural views of women that would be the cause of that sort of thing likely aren't truly in operation in Tamriel.

honestly...Norseman wouldn't have asian stuff in their homeland!!! This is the North! not the east or middle east! If you want asian stuff go play morrowind or partialy oblivion! Read up on your world cultures man! it is darn well near impossible for orcish and deadric armor/asian stuff to be found in the far north! Medieval games actually take a downfall when they use eastern armor and weapons "in my opinion"...

Actually, Talon8Phenix, technology moves EXTREMELY slow in Tamriel. Hell, the 800 years of the 2nd through a good portion of the third didn't have any real technological advancements. Heck, it took a good 1000 or 2000 years to move from leathers to metallic armor since the formation of Mundus. Also, Arueil's Bow is still considered the hottest piece of firearms out there, and that was there during the creation of Mundus.

Oh. I was always under the impression that free trade of goods and knowledge between the provinces of Tamriel would lead to advances in tech and society no matter how small.

On the point of clothing I do agree that every pair of pants shouldn't automatically become a skirt when a female wears it and pants when a male wears it.

I hate the way my female Chars look in skirts, especially the The one piece outfits in SI.

Dude, you stole the words out of my mouth. I like my RPG western style all the way. Japanese rpgs always looked to me too "Nintendoish". Besides, didn't the west invented Dungeons&Dragons; popularized the fantasy world of orcs, goblins, Conan-like warriors, etc? Isn't Tolkien the father of all these terminology? Japanese, nevertheless have contributed to the RPG genre since the Nintendo/Sega rivalry in the 80's. Some people call magic like the Japanese term, "mana". Anyways, if Skyrim doesn't have Asian stuff I wouldn't care much since the bulk of the lore and objects in ES have always been western.

That's why female version should not stupidly have a "cup" for each "boob" like metal coconuts, and instead have smooth curve over the bests - they are "squishy", but not a rubber balloon, they need space or it gets painful.

Personally I am disappointed with female "bandit" armor... I mean cleavage? Are they kidding? How long are we going to get that crap with female armor suddenly turning in to "sixyfied" version and show skin instead of protecting the char? An armor should look like an armor and act like en armor, if they want cleavage so badly add them to city NPCs who wear clothing, and not protective gear. This - "hey, a sixy woman - need to go kill her" stuff is certainly getting disturbing... :(

As a girl, I've been pretty satisfied with how Bethesda's handling the sixy factor of the female. I don't think it's too over the top. But yeah... boob cups have to go. Not practical at all. Same with the cleavage-showing bandit outfits... we all know it's there for male gratification and nothing practical. I'd rather have Beth stick to being realistic.

honestly...Norseman wouldn't have asian stuff in their homeland!!! This is the North! not the east or middle east! If you want asian stuff go play morrowind or partialy oblivion! Yep, because there's no such thing as trade... :P

Besides, the Blades (who exist in Skyrim) have Akaviri armor. Which, needless to say, is of Asian influence.

As for Asian influence detracting from medieval games -- well, personally, I think it's cool that Bethesda adds other cultures into their game besides that of the Tolkein-esque fantasy. (everyone being Caucasian...) It's nice to see some originality.
