where is the Asian stuff? and why is armour gender morphing

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 8:36 am

It makes no sens to me - it's Skyrim, as in -40 cesium easy, so no kind of naked skin on anyone but berserker makes sense, and certainly not a woman flashing her tender bit in such a water. And w bandit that has to use her cleavage is called a prosttute :D The fact that there is a bandit in that weather in "non practical outfit", that will try to kill you, not "charm" the money out of your purse is plain stupid.

Nords are resistant to cold. I am sure if they were to sit around in their skivvies at 10 degrees below zero it wouldn't bother them at all.

The other races would be in danger of freezing to death.

As a girl, I've been pretty satisfied with how Bethesda's handling the sixy factor of the female. I don't think it's too over the top. But yeah... boob cups have to go. Not practical at all. Same with the cleavage-showing bandit outfits... we all know it's there for male gratification and nothing practical. I'd rather have Beth stick to being realistic.

Yep, because there's no such thing as trade... :P

Besides, the Blades (who exist in Skyrim) have Akaviri armor. Which, needless to say, is of Asian influence.

As for Asian influence detracting from medieval games -- well, personally, I think it's cool that Bethesda adds other cultures into their game besides that of the Tolkein-esque fantasy. (everyone being Caucasian...) It's nice to see some originality.

i agree with you completely, but i dont see why dresses turn into trousers when men wear them, and vice versa

as for dremora- they just do whatever looks awesome and terrifying

Sorry, but what? I never thought the Daedric armor in Morrowind looked Asian. It looked more like brutalized and metallized African or American tribal armor, savage and fear instilling. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong.

All this cleavage is certainly offensive, and who has that avatar of the naked chick with big [censored] ?

My avatar is not even pretending to be wearing armor I don't find cleavage offensive in general, but on armor??? That's stupid, unrealistic and so on, they want cleavage - make it on dresses.

Chimer_Warrior - I can handle an occasional freedom with logic in a fantasy game :) But I do not like to handle plain stupidity - if they are making something make it as realistic as possible, I can buy a female bandit, especially in "all girls" band :D But not the oversixed armor for no reason whatsoever.

I'm going to hold in my first response to this, since it'd likely spark a debate that would get nasty fast; enough to say that the cultural views of women that would be the cause of that sort of thing likely aren't truly in operation in Tamriel.

Mhmmm... I believe that was the point I was making. Women in general are on par and equal to men in TES, as realistic or unrealistic as one might think that is, it means that women can be bandits without falling prey to their male counterparts.

It's because male Bosmer are the most well endowed of all males and if they wore dresses their junk would drag.

in morrowind i loved that daedric/orish samurai look . in oblivion they scraqed that and everything was western. orcish, elven and daedric SHOULD look asian (or at least not western) judging by the pics of the orcish and elvish armour i think they are a little over the top. i cant realy see orcish because its too dark. but its either Asian or some demonic looking armour worn by a Tolkien inspired orc . elven looks too western. i am pretty sure altmer are supposed to be more asian (because they have katanas and kimonos)

secondly- judging by the pictures of the women wearing gold armour and the female bandit. i think armour will be gender morphing again- this saddens me. i want skirts for men and trousers for women- and i hate armour having boob cups.

Sorry to hear that. Looks like there's only one course of action for you to take, don't buy the game.

Oh yea, I get what you are saying, and I tend to agree with that idea, I just happen to think that the bandit outfit isn't THAT oversixed that it would dispell my sense of immersion. I suppose being a male helps me suspend that disbelieve just a little bit further too, but I've also seen a lot worse than that from other fantasy games.

I also happen to appreciate that they are bringing a little six appeal into TES, because outfits or not, the last two games have been lacking in that department. At least now the characters actually can look good if they are meant to. Having everyone look like supermodels in-game is unrealistic, but none of them looking very attractive is probably just as disappointing.

well obviously it doesn't look oriental, because thats stupid. if you actually watch the second todd howard interview in the GI website, he even says that he doesn't buy into that whole high fantasy eastern rpg crap. it might be cool for some games, but the elder scrolls is a low fantasy western genre of role playing and it should be done no other way. todd says so. and if you think about it, the elder scrolls are moving north, not east. so i don't know what you were expecting when they announced it would be skyrim. perhaps i can recommend a bunch of japanese rpgs if thats really what you're into. you must spend a lot of time on tesnexus with all of the oriental hot babe mods :hubbahubba:

Well, I don't think armor with cleavage adds any six appeal to TES... it's more of an adolescent objectification of women. Morrowind's House of Earthly Delights was a better way of handling this - it gave sixual pleasure a presence in the game, without making it too cartoonish.

Oh, I like six appeal - I am very aesthetically minded :) But I although know that you don't have to expose skin to make an outfit look great - I wouldn't mind a return of Domina armor form Morrowind for example :) And slightly more feminine shaped glass armor - with domina mesh (mod) it looked gorgeous (the waist may have been a bit thicker, but that's details I'm willing to let slide).. But any kind of cleavage on protective gear is just ridiculous, it's the first area one wants to cover in harsh conditions, cold and for comfort, so for me it is an immersion breaker - one look and I can't help but shiver and think that the game designer should try asking his wife to go take a stroll in the woods in harsh weather wearing something like that, I'll see how fast he'll get his hide handed back to him :D
sixy and beautiful does not equal half naked - designers should remember that.

oh haha yeah i guess you're right. didn't fully read the post i guess. i'm just sensitive cuz i hate eastern rpgs  but still i don't think the samurai look really fits the elder scrolls unless you're talking the blades or something. but in terms of immersion, i think it would be cool to have some blades-inspired samuri looking armor, because hopefully the list of armor, cloths, and weapons will triple morrowind or oblivion. this way everyones happy and can play the character they want to play

To me Orcish Armor looks Mongolian and Chinese.

I dont see at all how the Altmer, or Dunmer are at all Asian influenced. The armors dont look like it to me. I also prefer the western style. It would be cool to have some sort of asian influence, as in teh Orcish armors. To have some middle eastern influence as well would also be cool as well.

IIt's one of those stuff that are present in fantasy, and the "adolescent objectification" is beyond ages. A glimpse at movies and their female characters clothes, armors etc can tell you that much. Not only adolescents watch those. And not only men watch those.

Thanks for correcting me. I hate to spread wrong facts, it's devastating to knowledge. This time I drop the ball. I guess I got the impression that "mana" was a Japanese term when people who are into Japanese RPGs often call magic as mana. Heck, there's even a restaurant where I live call "Mana Japanese". Oh well, next time I will use the magic word call "Google".

Could care less about how long this meme has been around, I think it's pretty clear that you'd have to have some pretty crude and immature views about female sixuality to find it appealing.

What? Different look 200+ years after the other games?! Impossible, everything MUST stay the same!

Just as an aside, I think a lot of people are confusing-

-this (JRPGs like Final Fantasy, which when it does armor, is relatively down to Earth and usually very Western): http://www.mogwebonline.com/assets/ff12_images/ff12_art42.jpg

with this (crazy-over-the-top Eastern MMOs): http://www.wallpaperez.net/wallpaper/games/Aion-The-Tower-of-Eternity-1930.jpg

...and this (actual, real-world Asian armor): http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/2462/keiko3ra.jpg

None of them really have anything to do with the other. I think it's fair enough to see things like example number 3 (real-world Asian armor) pop up as one of the real-world influences on Tamriel in Skyrim. Not in the Nords themselves, but other more far-flung peoples.

To be honest, I thought the asian-inspired equipment we got before looked terribly gaudy. It easily gets tacky if you're not careful. American samurai Blades made me facepalm hard.
I'm not at all against asian influences in ES, but I'd rather pass the silly pseudo-samurai gear.

Oversixed babes are not necessary to define a game as "fantasy", not unless we are talking about a very "different kind of fantasy" anyway :D The fact that woman where stupidly oversixed and objectified for the sake of male audience in a past is not a reason to continue doing it - if we stuck with "traditions" women would still be chained to stoves barefoot and pregnant, times move on, and so should inequality in games.
If they want an outfit to be "sixy" it should look equally so on bother male an female chars - a gladiator kind of loincloth on female should not turn in to a piece of plate armor on a male char, but remain a loincloth, and heavy plate armor should remain heavy plate on woman as well.
Either stay away form "sixy" altogether, or treat both woman and man as sixual.

Plenty of women want their characters to look good, the same way plenty of men want their character to look badass with swords no one in his right mind would carry, and wearing a 20 kilo helmet with huge horns on it.

The "immature" line is just wrong. If anything, men get worse as they get older in this department. Call it what you want, but it doesn't end with age.
