Where is the "Dark Elf influence" in Cheydinhal?

Post » Thu Jul 21, 2011 2:14 am

The loading screen says that Cheydnihal has Dark elf influence in it's archtiecture, but I've never seen Dunmer build ANYTHING like that. The closest I can think of is that it has a vague similarity to Imperial architecture in Morrowind, but in that respect, Chorrol is at least as close anyway.

Whoops! Looks like you found something the developers forgot to take out (or put in). There is no Dunmer architecture in Cheydinhal. The closest buildings from Morrowind I saw in Oblivion were in the Shivering Isles (the tree houses).

If I'm not mistaken, the Dunmer influence is limited to some Vvardenfell-esque fauna in the castle.

Hm? What fauna is this?

There isn't any. The developers didn't exactly think that one through now, did they?

Remember Vvardenfell isn't all of Morrowind, Cheydinhal could be influenced by the mainland areas of Morrowind we've never seen before.

I guess I remembered wrong, but the grass and trees make it look more like the area outside of Seyda Neen than the Oblivion style.

And CreedenceCliffracerRevival is right, the buildings look a bit like Mournhold would if it was built out of wood (colour scheme is pretty similar)

Oh, you mean flora. And as for Mournhold, I don't see that at all. The Mournhold look like a mixture of other Dunmer styles we've seen and Oriental architecture, with a bit of uniqueness, Cheydinhal just looks European Tudor style.

EDIT: And the colour scheme is not similar at all.

The Western regions of Morrowind and cities such as Kragenmoor, Silgrad, Cormaris View, Blacklight, etc, may have stronger ties to the Nibenese and Eastern Skyrim such as Rift or Eastmarch. Or the influence could easily have been the inverse.

We've seen just how varied the styles can be on Vvardenfell alone which is only 1/4 the size of the entire provence.

Or the devs just said, "Pfftt... Whatever"!

The rooves paving and windows look similar, and the lamposts and outer walls to me

@Dragonbone, It was a stretch I know :hehe:

Uh, well they have tiles, which you don't see much in Morrowind but frequently in Cyrodiil, as well as most other places, so that's hardly an influence. And they do have lights on sticks in both.

It doesn't look like anywhere else in Cyrodiil, though. Mind, nowhere in Cyrodiil looks like anywhere else in Cyrodiil.

I was referring more to the edges of the roof, and the colours.

I've always been under the impression that it might have been Dres architecture, as we have never, ever seen their style of construction. But we can estimate. Seeing as they live near Black Marsh, it would make sense for them to build mostly out of wood (most abundant material in the area) with heavily slanted rooftops (due to heavy rainfall).

The most similar style we have seen is Indoril in Tribunal, but their roofs tend to be flat, and their buildings mostly stone.

Probably a mixture, as the windows look a bit like the Mournhold style.

(Tamriel Rebuilt should give Dres Cheydinhal themes)

The edges of the rooves in Cheydinhal are just the edges of where the tiles are, like everywhere else in Cyrodiil. The edges in Mournhold have some stone/wood/clay structure that bends up at the edges. Cheydinhal buildings are made of grey stone, white plaster, brown wood and purple tiles. Mournhold buildings are made of browny-grey stone, green tiles and a large green framy thing.

Where the hell are you getting the similarities?

I might have considered that, however, Cheydinhal architecture looks very similar to Chorrol architecture and shows influence from most everywhere in Cyrodiil, and looks more like a mixture of those styles. Honestly I think this is all grasping at straws a bit.
