Where the heck are my legs?

Post » Wed Jan 15, 2014 1:16 am

I'd like to say in upfront that I am Elder Scrolls fan. This is not going to be any criticism. What I am saying is that the ability to see my character's body and legs from 1st person view helps me a lot to immerge into a specific game setting and atmosphere. It's just like the past teaches us that Beth does not like to show us our legs, so I am afraid in TESO we will have the same thing. We probably will not be able to see neither our characters legs, nor our bodies from fpv. I just wonder if I am alone with that. How many of you would like to see their character's legs in ESO when looking down in fpv? Just like in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic for instance.

Well, Todd Howard can't into legs, we're just floating balls with hands. If Todd Howard can't into, nobody can into.

Even though you cant see your own body or legs, other players can. And you can see theirs. But the question I have for you is how can you have full body and be in first person mode

I'm ok with not seeing my legs, although it would be better for immersion. What throws me off more sometimes is when companies have your characters hand movements not correspond to what you think they would be, or not be more like RL. Legs and hands are down on the list. Heck, I just hope they will have a lot of weapon and armor choices from the world and things like that, and not force me to use a sword or wear armor I dont like.

OP is talking about seeing his legs when he looks down. This tends to happen IRL, an it doesn't in this game....

Well this isn't RL and you cannot expect that you can do the exact same things

I don't understand.. are you afraid you will misplace your legs if you can't see them?

In all seriousness, I fail to understand the point of being able to see your legs in first-person view. You rarely have to look down to play your character effectively (and by rarely, I mean never.) The resources it would take to create realistic leg animations and graphics while in first-person view just doesn't seem worth it for such a trivial thing. Hands I can see implementing, because it's helpful to know, for example, at what stage of charge you are at when using heavy attacks (important for timing blows, and maintaining efficiency especially when using the bow, which can remain fully drawn indefinitely.) Legs... I don't see the practical usefulness of having them in view. Immersion is great, but this is late-stage beta. Seems like something to put on the back burner.

Well I am afraid I pretty much like my disappearing legs, makes me feel like I would be floating towards the enemy... :D

Seriously: I don't mind it at all. When you walk you aren't supposed to watch yur legs, but your enemies and the environment.

@ ehb: I do not expect to do things in ESO I can do in rl. My question is rather if you will immerge more in the game when you are able to see your characters legs (and body) than if not. I am asking this, because I've got the feeling I would.

@ LootCrazed MoneyHunter: "Todd Howard isn't into legs" is an acceptable answer for legs not to be in ESO fpv. But I do not accept that everybody has to have the same opinion like Todd.

@ Travail: In all seriousness it helps me to immerge in a game's setting and atmosphere. If you have a different feeling, it's ok. It's not like that is very important to me if ESO will have legs or not. I just wonder if there are more people with the same feeling like me regading the absense od body and legs in fpv.

You are leaning forward in a combat crouch. Unfortunately, this prevents you from seeing your legs. :)

Guys remember: When you look at your character from such a close distance most textures will look crappy so it would require http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1484108-hd-textures-option/ textures.

Well played! ;)

Why is it acceptable because of what Todd thinks? Todd has nothing to do with ESO characters having legs.

@Jesuis Cache-Cache: I have no idea if Todd is part of ESO staff. Who has than something to do with ESO chars having, or better not having legs?

The only time I look at my legs in real life is just before I run into something because I was not looking where I was going.

If the Devs allow us to see our legs, they may as well allow us to be clumsy and trip over random crap littering the wilderness...

I'm imagining it now: My assassin is creeping through the cave, about to end the dreams of some half-wit Bandit. Right as I'm on final approach, I trip over a piece of ore sticking out of the ground because I wasn't watching where my legs were going...

Bandit then stabs my prone form and I get to see the physics engine make my blood pool around me.

lol

Nei Skyrim-style: lifting off like a Helicopter and hitting the ceiling over and over again until some lucky wind carries you out into the blue sky where you will be free to continue your helicopter-ing towards the sun ;D

ok ok I'll give you the perfect reason for wanting to see legs from fpv in a MMO game, because it seems like you need one to understand, why I feel more immerged into a geme when I am able to see my legs... and body. Lets assume my toon is a real hot bretonian sorceress ... do I need to continue?

[EDIT]

ow I forgot to mention that she is very narcissistic, too

[EDIT 2]

and for female forum users, imagine a hot nordic dragon knight.
