Where is the LIKE button?

Post » Thu Oct 16, 2014 5:12 am

Seeing as some forums have a LIKE button even on facebook. I realized that this forum doesn't have that feature.

Some of the comments posted today are hilarious and funny. Oh, I wish I could though. :)

This forum is way behind the times in many aspects. It's pretty archaic actually compared to pretty much every other major publishers forums.

probably for the same reason alot of publishers forums don't have one these days, people stop posting for the discussion, and just try to get as many likes as they can instead

I wouldn't mind if we had a like button, so long as it doesn't alert everyone in my friend list, or post it on Facebook.

If the system was anonymous then that would be best as no one would feel pressured into Liking something that their friend posted about.

One thing I liked about the Halo forums was the ability to 'Like' something, it was kind of like saying "yep, I agree", rather than regurgitating the same answer, or just quoting and saying "This.". It never stopped discussion, either.

And for a little vanity thing it had a total likes next to your name and post number. I liked that, made me feel loved :P

That's what I think too. Although being "Thanked" for a helpful post could be a nice feature, it can cause people to spam.

Not sure what you mean, but embedded images/videos and images in Sigs are disabled because people abuse them and it makes a forum look like a cluttered mess.

Some forums like the Grand Theft Auto forums, are pretty immature. Those guys are terrible, but in all my time there, I've never seen any inappropriate images there.

Thats a good point. If people are just going to abuse the features, than its better to do with out rather than asking people not to.

I'd prefer a like button rather than someone quoting a whole post only to add a single word or a smiley behind it :hehe:

And i haven't really seen "like [censored]" on forums that have it. Some of course, but only by few individuals, and not in bothersome quantities.

Though to be fair, those are smaller than this one

its better safe than sorry... I remember back in the early days of World of Warcraft (like the first year or two) they had to disable embedded images on their forum because people were starting up accounts and posting images of.. well, lets just call it NSFW content..

Yeah, because they would probably get banned for them.

Wasn't there an...incident involving NSFW pictures on these forums that caused that feature to be removed in the first place? I remember reading about it on a thread here.

Meh. To me that seems like a poor excuse to remove features and functionality. Pretty lazy actually.

Having images and gifs in signatures makes boards really cluttered and can slow everything down. I'm fine with archaic boards. But I'm old. We didn't have no darn fangling moving images when I was a kid.

Yeah, but that's an MMO forum. Primary MMO forums are filled with the most wretched people, which is why you have to join fan forums if you want to discuss the game away from that type. (Worst forum I've been on was Nexon, filled with pony images, people spammed NSFW stuff, shock images, and every single thread was derailed so a small group of friends could chat in it. Though it might be better now; I haven't looked in a year).

Non 1st party MMO forums tend pretty decent. But, I can't complain here, it could be like the Steam forums (SPUF) that disabled text sigs and avatars too.

I also want to point out regardless of all this, it's still in my top 3 favorite forums. Hopefully Bethesda opens up a little more with its community features in the future though.

but they really aren't necessary features tbh.. tell me, what would an Image in your signature or being able to embed images add to the discussion?

It doesn't even have to be that. CD Projekt RED updated their forum a few months ago and added something called RED points, which you can give someone for helpful posts or what not. Other forums have Google+/Twitter/FB support built in. All of these developers are driving their games on there anyway. Pete Hines is huge on Twitter. I honestly feel that they treat us like children around here. Not mature enough to be trusted with embedded pictures or even to discuss so many topics pertinent to the world we live in.

Please please keep these forums unique from other forums.. and don't add a "like" feature.. We don't need a reputation system either..

Regarding signatures, blame the people in the past for ruining it for us in the present.

If you used that excuse for everything we wouldn't be aloud to do anything in this world other than sit in our homes and breath. Bethesda does these things for legal issues, so they can't be held liable for anything. It also create less work and responsibility for the nodding team, which is already curiously small enough as is.

I quite like the forums as they are, clean and stripped down. Very easy to quickly scan through. Not that keen on having a like button, it's an unneeded distraction.

The mobile version is quite clean. I'll give it that. It's the best mobile forum I've been too.
