Where is the Player HomeBase of Operations?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 11:36 am

In Fallout New Vegas, the Lucky 38 was my base of operations and player home.
Whichever companions I wasn't using at the time were chilling out there and I knew it where they would always be when I wanted to bring them alone for excursions.

I also used the many storage containers to keep the weapons, outfits, crafting supplies, food and drink, etc that I didn't want to be carrying around the Mojave with me.

Does anyone know what the Fallout 4 equivalent of the Lucky 38 will be?
Where do the companions go to when you tell them to return to base?

Well we've obviously seen that you can build a player home for yourself and settlement for others. That's the obvious answer. I'm sure there will be a premade place like the lucky 38 for those who don't want to partake in the crafting of their own home

This ^
I'm sure there will be a couple of places for purchase, maybe even some really fancy digs in Boston or The Institute.

Maybe you have more than one HQ, that being the red rocket garages you find throughout the game. I'm hoping for more though.

Might be able to camp at first inside the wreckage of your old home too. There are always a few houses you can half claim.

I expect there will be multiple options for housing. There is in Bethesda's other games.

So am I, for me this is the most progressive thing about Fallout 4. Can't wait to see where they take this new feature

My goal is to build a tower and see how many floors I can add to it. Should be fun.

I'm curious about this too. It was either a picture or part of a video we see during settlement talk that shows basically a village on stilts that are connected by little foot bridges. They had mulitple levels to it as well. I think it'll be surprising what we can do. And even more so what it enables modders to do

Yes, it would be more fun to build your own base.

But if the Companions only go to a specific place the game tells them as home, then all you've got is a storage depot.
In the case above, I wouldn't regard that as a base, because my supplies aren't in the same location as my buddies.
And you need a crafting bench too.

Most likely, if it is possible, I'd just start placing storage containers around the designated base.
That is, if enough of them were not supplied.

But I'd probably save that for modding instead, it's easier to find existing storage containers and just drop them into position.
In one case, a mod I downloaded included a Nuka Cola brand fridge and I thought, that would look so nice in the Lucky 38, so I replaced one of the fridges with it.
So mod storage containers are also able to be used.

I'd imagine that using the workshop that is shown in the E3 reveal where the player character sets up the power armor could be a good spot, and it seems that it's not far from your vault.

Wherever there is a mattress and a non respawning storage container. I like to claim lots of places as mine.. but it really comes down to if I can actually store anything there.

Well, when talking to companions and telling them to leave you, there were options on telling them where to go in other games. I played with Arcade a few times and I had the option of sending him back to the Followers camp or to the Lucky 38. I'd think we'd have the option to tell them "this settlement" or "that settlement" and "this prebuild house"

Like most people here I'll be building an "official vanilla" settlement, but as soon as I get my grubby mitts on the Toolkit, I'll have a 20 teir basemant level that would rival any vault! :D

@ imitenotbecrazy

Those are actually two seperate commands.
When you tell a Companion to go back to base, they are still your ally, they're just not on duty, technically.
When you tell them to go somewhere other then base, you are firing them, essentially, you are telling them you don't need them anymore and they can go back to doing whatever they were doing before you recruited them.

I do see your point though, it might be possible to put a coding mechanism in that says, go to Safehouse C instead of HomeBase.
They might have to put limits on it though, you don't want to see a list of 20, 50 or 100 Safehouses!

If I was coding this, I'd have a Marker of some kind that said, place this on your map, this building is now a Companion Safehouse.

I think that is kind of already in Fallout 4 - they said you could actually use your companions to run one of your settlements, so guessing you can assign companions to be leaders of the different towns you own.

It will be like choosing which base they lounge around in when you're not working with them.

I believe you can also assign your companions a bed in your settlements as well (with the exception of codsworth and dogmeat who will use the doghouse and probably a charging station instead since they wouldnt sleep in a bed) the first settlement location is right at the start of the game.. its confimed that your old pre-war home is in/near a settlement building zone so you can build a settlement near your old home/neighborhood.

I’m hoping for something in between Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Three was too close and New Vegas was too far.

Yes I know you could get a hotel room in Novac, but it lacks the amenities that Megaton and the Lucky 38 has. Heck, in a perfect world it’d be like the Sink in Old World Blues, workbench, hot plate, auto doc all in the same load space.

I'm going to do this also, and see how many turrets I can mount on my tower. ;-)

I'm really hoping your settlements will reflect upon your character. Like, if you play a nice guy, the settlements are pretty typical, but if you're a bastard, it's instead filled with raiders who party and raise Hell all the time.

To be honest, if we're able to move back to our Pre-War home and all the storage there are safe, that's where I'm setting up shop.

Im assuming settlements will be a big deal, and a big part of player homes.

But it appears we have some other options as well like the gas station, I also suspect there will be player homes assigned to the faction we chose.

A nice condo in MIT.

A nice room with a view on the prydwen.

ect
