Where is Unarmed?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:53 am

I understand why they took out a lot of the skills and combined some, but unarmed is one that I don't understand why it was taken out.

I did notice though that by using the heavy armor perk combined with smithing you can emulate it. The higher your smithing, the better gauntlets you can make/improve, the higher unarmed damage you do.

*shrug* I want my unarmed back.

look under the heavy armour perk tree.

You obviously failed to read his post.

Exhibit A: "...by using the heavy armor perk..."

My daedric gauntlets have 100 armor value. With the +10 enchant and +15 khajit thats 125. This is actually not half bad.

Sadly this seems bugged and it only takes the base armor value of the gloves, and not perked out =\. It takes a few punches to kill a wolf, 2 punches to kill a fox -> It can't possibly be working right.

Otherwise it would actually be viable.

Have you tried using your fists?

In "Oblivion" many people complained there was no "Unarmoured" skill, seemingly completely oblivious to the fact that an unarmoured character using hand to hand naturally moved faster than those lumbered with gear so there was no reason to create an "skill" to artificially enhance it.

I have and am merely stating I'm unhappy there's no skill related to the art and I have to go up the heavy armor tree to get the perk to use gauntlets as my unarmed damage.

Does anyone know if the Kahjit claw bonus applies when wearing gauntlets?

I actually don't really mind having to take the heavy armor perk to be able to do unarmed combat. The monk archetype is still an attainable character. All the usual skills that would compose it are in the game, you just have to not be bothered by the requirement of wearing gauntlets.

Except for the fact that when you wore armor you gained skill level when you got hit, increasing your defense while wearing that armor type. Without an unarmored skill, your armor was always 0 when you wore just clothing.

Same thing without a H2H skill in Skyrim: you can use your fists if you want, but the only way you can increase damage with them is to either make a khajiit or wear heavy armor gloves and get the pugilist enchantment. What if I wanted to be an orc monk? Monks don't wear big, bulky gauntlets, and I'm pretty sure that the type of monk who trains in martial arts also knows how to take a hit a lot better than the average person.

The removal of acrobatics and athletics is a huge loss, too. I don't expect an old mage to run at nearly the same speed as a hunter in his prime, and I definitely don't expect to see a nord in big, bulky armor jump as high as a khajiit in his birthday suit.

I like having skills mostly because it's fun to watch their values go up and to have something to look forward to to increase. If they are there to artificially enhance things that are already there in the game, then Bethesda should get rid of all skills. You punch with your fists so there is no need for Hand to Hand skill since it is physically there in the game. No need for any of the magic skills since they are obviously there in the game. Perhaps they will get rid of all skills in TESVI. I prefer them to go back to how it was in TESII Daggerfall where you had 35 skills; primary, major, minor and miscellaneous.
