Where was Cosades?

Post » Sun Oct 03, 2010 10:55 pm

Caius Cosades was recalled to Cyrodiil from Morrowind 6 years before the events of Oblivion. I heard that he was making a return, as well.

It made no sense to work for the blades but never hear any mention of a high level Blades operative that was working in the same province as you.

Why did they exclude him?

I don't believe Caius fate was ever dealt with officially. It's quite possible that after he was recalled he was sent back out to Morrowind or another provice - as a high level operative he was probably more useful out in the field providing they still trusted him.

It would have been cool to hear a snippet or two about him from the Blades even if it was as an aside or small talk between NPCs. I don't know if it would have worked to meet him again, I think that would have drawn too close a tie between TES III and TES IV. Then again you can meet Barenziah in TES II and Tribunal . . . although she isn't as central a character as Caius.

maybe they heard he was a skooma addict, made him take a drug test, and fired him.

I believe that was a cover.

For a long time I thought Jauffre was Cosades, and "Caius Cosades" wasn't his real name.

The fact that one is Breton and one is Imperial puts that to rest.

If he wasn't working with you then it was probably kept top secret. I see no reason they would just give out that information if it isn't relevant to your role in the blades.

With trouble in Skyrim, the Sumerset Isles, and Black Marsh I figure he's freezing, ostracized, or wet.

Jauffre is the Grandmaster of the Blades so prehaps he is the only one that knows he even exists. He could be all you know working alongside you on a seprate line of inquiry. Remember Jauffre saying in Cloud Ruler Temple at one point that an informant had provided him some useful infomation. Prehaps this was him?

I think I keep seeing him out of the corner of my eye.

Why do people like to assume these things even where they clearly aren't there? :P

If he would be in the game I'm sure it would be pointed out more obvious than just mentioning an informant and expecting us to get it it was him :P That would be pretty silly and vague thing to do from Bethesda.

Undercover Blades agents like Cosades aren't supposed to be seen and recognized, even by lesser Blades members.

Plus, with the death of the Emperor, who's to say Cosades didn't just give up being a Blade and retire?

Not to mention Elsweyr. The official sources say it is the first province to go after Martin's death. So you could add baking hot, or sweating profusely (depending on whether he is in the northern desert or southern jungle). But then again, they probably would not send a suspected skooma addict to the Moon-Sugar capital of Nirn.

Well, that would explain why he was never heard from again! Flyyyin' . . . flyyin' in the skyyyy . . . . cliff racer flys so high . . . . flyinnn' . . . .

I don't believe that Cosades was an addict; I think it was his cover. He would have been impaired if he had really been taking skooma, but he speaks clearly with our Morrowind characters.

The developer Ken Rolston wrote a couple of things "by" Cosades during a lore RP around the time of "Oblivion's" release, and they can be read on the Imperial Library site:

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/caius-cosades-visit-uriel-viis-tomb

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/caius-cosades-letter (It's thought that the reason the letter reads as if it's written by a simple monk is to throw anyone off who might happen to intercept the letter; at least, that's the plausible theory why the letter reads this way.)

He mentions that he had been "busy in the East" around the time of the Emperor's death, for what it's worth.
