Where will we start?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 5:40 pm

I'd prefer going from the outside to the main inner areas, perhaps starting out in some grungy bandit camp, where they are about to execute you and...
Either
  • hear a dragon and the Dragon burns the camp to the ground luckily you survive.
  • Esbern comes and saves you
  • You hear a dragonshout from the greybeards releasing you from your shackles and killing the executioner(You grab his axe) and have to fight your way out.

I think we will start somewhere in the northeastern section on Falkreath Hold. http://i56.tinypic.com/wtw3fk.jpg is located close to there and I'm assuming, due to what the Game Informer magazine said, that this will be the first settlement we discover. After all, the story so far is: you escape your own execution, encounter a dragon, then Esbern sends you off to High Hrothgar so that you may find the Greybeards. The Throat of the World is also located in that area if you look closely at the maps. They're both so conveniently placed near eachother.

What about in a forest surrounded by the early morning mist on the outskirts of a town, bound and kneeling flanked by 3 soldiers, they ask you to lower your head.................

(Im thinking the early part of Gladiator movie)

..............................as the soldier lifts his blade above his head a screech is blasted through the trees knocking you and the soldiers to the floor. You dive for the bushes just before a flame comes blasting into the 3 guards scortching them to ashes.

You see a shadow pass over you and the dragon heads off into the sunrise.

There you are with the clothes on your back on the outskirts of town, and 3 guards/soldiers to loot for some starting gear.

OMG! I seriously hope they use this! I mean like... it's sooo awesome! and... perfect! :P

I hope it is a scary grimy dungeon in the middle of nowhere, like some imperial dungeon in the mountains where they keep really bad prisoners.

Morrowind began in Seyda Neen which was really just a small port village..nothing too special as opposed to Oblivion where you began in the Imperial City. We already know that we're going to start in prison, but in what city or town do you think that prison will be in and why?

Bethesda have already said that we are starting off in a prison, most likely the main city of skyrim prison (I dont have a clue what the capital of skyrim is called)

I think it'll end up like this. You start in the Windhelm marketplace. You're about to be beheaded for a crime you may or may not have done, when a elderly man come's and tells the guards to stop while holding the seal of Windhelm Governor (or some other high ranking official). He save's your life and you talk to him in one of the inn's. It turns out he's one of the last blade's. You then either have the option to follow him to Hrothgar or go out in the world and train before coming back.

You start with all of Skyrim before you to explore. (Windhelm is on the eastern edge of the map).

I didn't like in Oblivion how you had to go through a dungeon to start. Also didn't like that the main quest draws you in and you never get a chance to explore like Morrowind, when Caius tells you to join a guild or house before helping him. I also didn't like how you started in the center of the map in Oblivion, it made the world seem smaller and discouraged exploring.

(PS, if my guess is right I get bragging rights for life )

I'd like to be on top of a mountain, so we could get a spectacular view when we start playing.

That might be good, but imo I think we should work to get the spectacular views.

I didn't like starting near the Imperial City in Oblivion. I naturally went straight there, and I had a hard time getting into the game because I just felt so overwhelmed. So I'd like to start out somewhere remote and build up to the first big city with a couple of smaller places. Plus if you leave the big city til last it gives you something to work toward and look forward to.

Starting in the Imperial City kind of equates to stating in the Strip on FO NV. The best city should always be further in the game (even though many may argue what the 'best' city is).

Like said, a port city in the North would be good. I want to start on the outskirts and move my way in, rather than the other way around.

Here's my idea.

You and bunch of other prisoners are being transferred to a Skyrim prison in somesort of sea vessel, which abruptly gets attacked by dragons. In the midst of the chaos, you steal the keys to your chains from a nearby guard and make your daring escape by running above deck and jumping into the ice cold water.

You wake up later on a shore and find yourself surrounded by fearsome mud crabs!

Starting off as a prisoner is not the same as being in prison. You could as easily start off about to be executed in the middle of a forest by a bunch of bandits.

You guys coming up with these crazy ideas of sailing on ships and being brought to the capital are going to be sorely disappointed. It's a sure bet that the game will start somewhere near Riverwood (which is directly under the Throat of the World on the map). See my post above. ;)

I don't think you understood the OP's question. "Where will the game begin?", Not "What will we be doing?".

yea we start in prsion then our character creation screen is filling out forms for prisoner transport. there is a cutscene where another inmate is talking to us, you kno the regular who are you where do you think there taking us stuff. then we get loaded onto a wagon and the screen goes black then comes back and its incinuated that its a few hours later the guards driving the wagon start talking about the civil war wich is how you learn some info about the main quest and then all of the sudden ROOOAAAAARRRR!!!!!!!! a dragon swoops out of nowhere and flips the wagon over and raises generaly all holy hell and you roll down an embankment and pass the ef out and when we wake up we check the carnage and thats how we get some starting equipment

Either Far South (some kind of high security prison in the mountains) or Far North (on a boat like in Morrowind, where you will get to meet jiub's great great great grandson)

Being in a big castle prison and getting dragged outside while being kind of weak and sleepy, then u see someone else being executed and people are clapping.etc Then it is your turn, and a big speech is being held about what you have done. Then...?

Edit: Somewhere in a towns castle. Called (in my opinion) Duyka.

I reeeeally enjoy this idea.

Me too. Part 2 of the story is Esbern rushes through the crowd and saves you in the nick of time. He either provides papers of your release or you have to fight and flee.

I'm guessing Markarth, as that location would have a very restrictive field of view of Skyrim being on a cliffside. They usually save the 'vista' until after you complete the mandatory knuckle-dragging intro to give you a sense of freedom to go with the accomplishment.

Well, I hope it's not s typical RPG start, you know a little hamlet/vilage that is somehow imperiled and 75% of the time ends up getting destroyed.

But that said, the whole prison thing has gotten pretty cliche, too.

Maybe the game will start out in a larger city and you are at some arena or tournament event involving combat. Just before it starts you are talking to characters who will offer some basic gladiotor-type gear. So they will ask all the standard tutorial-esque questions.
