Where will we start?

Execution in Windhelm is interrupted by a hooded Esbern who takes you through a back passageway leading into a mountain and out the other side. He then tells you to meet him in Sky Haven Temple. From there it is up to you where you go.

That's my opinion.

I think the best way for starting skyrim its when u escaping from someone/something.
(maybe Kill your family because of debts , or just harass your family) old & good ideas
It gives you a feel weak at first, but the future brings you the feeling that seek revenge!

The story that runs in my head its something like that:
"You sleep at home, and suddenly the killer came home and kills your family ... you just got to pee or you hungry in the middle of the night ( dosent mather ) ...
The killer encounters you run into the forest immediately begins pursuit at the end you're able to escape! .... (after u runnig in the forest [night outside ofcourse] u hardly can see, u jump from a high cliff to the sea[That it is the only option u have])
But find yourself far away from the city...From your Home...You know there's no point in returning home.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When in Oblivion u started like a prisoner...its gave u the feel like.."whoa i have a second chance - now lets dont waste it"
i like oblivion start, but my idea above sounds cool too...

You are, always have been, and always will start as a prisoner in the TES series. The whole point is that you can DECIDE your past and it is not chosen for you like in your example.

But the question is what noose? Where is this noose? Is it in a major city? A town? A fortress?

The prisoner thing has been a common theme, sure, but this case is a little different. In all the other games you weren't descended from some special line of people. You were just some guy fate threw into the blender.

We aren't some random joe svcked into a a conflict by happenstance or fate this time.

I kind of like the idea of starting in a port town, just like in Oblivion you'd walk outside for the first time and be staring across the water, but rather than seeing land at the other side, you see sea and ships sailing around you!

This is something that's been on my Skyrim wish list for a while. I don't know why. I just think it'd be really cool.

I'm assuming we'll start in one of the big cities.

I hope they don't make other cities fast travel available from the start though...

You are part of no such special line. Being dragonborn is like most other genetic traits. You can recieve it genetically or it can be a random mutation.

This is kinda unrelated, but the people of Tamriel are bound to catch onto the trend one day and there will be mass chaos as people commit horrific crimes so they may go to jail and, eventually, save the world.

Nah, it'll be an incentive not to commit crimes, or else you'll be thrust into some ridiculous prophecy which could easily be your death and even if you survive you will quickly dissapear of the face of the continent/world.

Yes you are, according to the current lore. The Dragonborn are bloodline descended. Save your bable about "random mutations" and other nonsense.

You don't get to make lore upon the fly to support your argument.

True. But hey, it beats standing around in the Imperial Markets day in and day out, occasionally walking a few feet and then stopping again, in hopes that somebody with real intelligence might accidentally click on you and have to hear about your lame ass family or something.

I would love a more cinematic start. Say you are travelling on a wagon and you shift in and out of consciousness - whilst conscious you hear a small snippet of the guards taking you talking about the civil war, etc. and when it fades to black it has like 'lead designer Todd Howard', with some epic music slowly building up until you are about to get executed, then the title flies onscreen, or something.

I like the idea of starting out of the main fray and working your way in. I'd prefer something like Seyda Neen to the Imperial City.

Yeah, this is exactly what I was thinking.

Working your way into the land rather than being at the dead center of everything. But that's sort of how Cyrodill is set up anyways though, so I could see why they did it for Oblivion, I just think Skyrim would work better starting near the edge.

I hope they don't make fast travel to all cities immediately available at the start. That would make this discussion pretty pointless.

I bet the actual game will start in a small city, not a major one. Since we're waiting to be executed then break out, I doubt our character would stick around in that city for long.

Show me the lore that says this. I was using random mutations as a real-world comparison, but basically it is a gift which is also handed down. But it has to be given to someone originally and if I recall, there are several dragonborn families. Nothing says you have to have it handed down to you, and if it does, provide proof.

I'm hoping for a somewhat central location this time like in Oblivion. If you don't use fast travel it is nice to be closer to everything rather than close to some and really far from others.

I totally agree. Giving the player that freedom from the start is part of wat makes the game feel open-ended as early as possible, dispelling the feeling of linearity.
