Where will we start?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 5:07 pm

Morrowind began in Seyda Neen which was really just a small port village..nothing too special as opposed to Oblivion where you began in the Imperial City. We already know that we're going to start in prison, but in what city or town do you think that prison will be in and why?

I'm hoping for a somewhat central location this time like in Oblivion. If you don't use fast travel it is nice to be closer to everything rather than close to some and really far from others.

I kind of like the idea of starting in a port town, just like in Oblivion you'd walk outside for the first time and be staring across the water, but rather than seeing land at the other side, you see sea and ships sailing around you!

I like the idea of starting out of the main fray and working your way in. I'd prefer something like Seyda Neen to the Imperial City.

Being in a big castle prison and getting dragged outside while being kind of weak and sleepy, then u see someone else being executed and people are clapping.etc Then it is your turn, and a big speech is being held about what you have done. Then...?

Edit: Somewhere in a towns castle. Called (in my opinion) Duyka.

I hope we start in the outskirts of one of the major cities, sorta like in Morrowind where you started rather close to balmora. This gives the player room to discover the major city as you approach it, aswell as still how regions far out you have to travel quite a distance to get it.

I'd prefer to start in a small town on the edge of the map, as opposed to a huge city or the middle of the map.

More than likely in a prison in one of the major cities, but you never know they may change it up this time around...

I am leaning towards Windhelm as it is quite a central location and gives you the option to head any way you please.

I think we'll start at that port city seen in the trailer.

This is a good question OP, it may even have some impact on some people's background story.

I feel that I could detail my background story somewhat better, if I know the starting point in Skyrim.

Solitude is on a giant arching rock.
Markarth is built into a cliffside
Whiterun is built on top of a rocky hill.
Riften is built next to a lake.

Windhelm is built on flat land next to a river.

I think we'll start at Windhelm. It's the least interesting location. It will make the first visits of the other cities more interesting.

What about in a forest surrounded by the early morning mist on the outskirts of a town, bound and kneeling flanked by 3 soldiers, they ask you to lower your head.................

(Im thinking the early part of Gladiator movie)

..............................as the soldier lifts his blade above his head a screech is blasted through the trees knocking you and the soldiers to the floor. You dive for the bushes just before a flame comes blasting into the 3 guards scortching them to ashes.

You see a shadow pass over you and the dragon heads off into the sunrise.

There you are with the clothes on your back on the outskirts of town, and 3 guards/soldiers to loot for some starting gear.

I agree that's pretty epic. :goodjob: But I don't see why the dragon would be saving you. The world-eater and his minions have basically marked you for death.

That would actually be a bad ass start to the game. Very simple, short, dynamic, and leaves you with that feeling of "OH SHART!"

Seeing as we're supposed to be executed we'll probably be in a large town or city somewhere with enough population to justify a public execution.

I think it'll be in a port city. Somehow, executions just make me think "port city" a whole lot.

What i'd like is sailing in on a boat into one of the port towns. Which means we've only just arrived in Skyrim, so we don't know where anything is.

I'd like to start somewhere in the south near the border between Skyrim and Cyrodiil. That would make the transition from Oblivion to Skyrim seem more natural.

Make it a small settlement out side of the main city but big enough to do stuff. The place is called Riverwood i think were you start or something.

Mabye you get to choose? Since there is a Civil War, you could of been captured for helping the enemy or something like that.

Yes, this is what I was just thinking. It'd be awesome though if they had kept the sailing of ships under wraps just for that moment.

I much preferred the 'scaled' start of Morrowind - a 'damp squat' of a village to start with, then you had Pelagiad which was a small town, then further on there was Balmora which was a major town with guilds to join and the start of the main quest. It felt natural to me.

But I didn't like the way you got dumped just outside the Imperial City in Oblivion. The IC should have been something to work towards, via other places

So, to answer the question, I'd prefer to be at the edge of the map
