Where will the game start

A new recruit in the Skyrim army, fill out your papers and do some basic training then get ready for an all out assault.

That is my dream.

Prison. Per tradition.

Not that I'd like it, but it seems highly likely.

Most Noble Members of the Imperial Elder Council!
While I, Councillor Braskus Ocerallus of the Most Divine city of Anvil, understand that it is quite impossible to in any way comprehend the numerous possibilities to start in, I still find the choices here lacking. However if my humble vote is needed in this poll I will vote for a start in prison. However I am obliged to notify my fellow members in the senate that I am quite upset with all the prisonbreaks in the Imperial City, numbering to the millions, and all on the same day, in the same cell, and ask my fellow members of the Imperial Elder Council to do all in their power to improve the security of prisons and make organised inspections of them, atleast once a year, to ensure the safety of our citizens.

Long live the Empire!

After dealing with customizing your character's appearance.

You are met by a the face of a woman, or man. Guard, or person of some other profession. You barely can make out their features due to the smoke. All you can tell is that they are removing rubble that has you pinned, the Inn you were residing in had collapsed. As they help you up they explain that the town is being evacuated due to an attack. Also that you will have to find something to defend yourself along the way. The Town is in ruins, nearly everything is ablaze.

As you both make a break for the Shop a crossed the Street, your companion is assaulted by a Raider, or perhaps a Dragonkin. After the attacker is dispatched you are ordered to grab the felled enemy's weapon quickly, and continue to the Alchemy Shop. Inside your comrade leans up against a wall that has yet to give way, they explained that they are wounded badly, and do not have any potions. At this point you can search for a Healing Potion or grab the conveniently place Mortar, and Pestle, and the herbs on a table, and make one. Both can be found, or you may use your Heal Other spell. After your Ally is healed they beckon you to follow them out the back door.

Out the back door you find yourself in a small alley way. Your Ally peers out into the nearby street. More of the attackers are marching down the street. Your Ally explains that you can wait them out, attack them, or try, and sneak pass them. Your choice. After you have passed them you find yourself placed by the Blacksmith shop where an Attacker happens to be. Apparently looking for some loot. Dispatch them however you like, and here you will have the option of finding some weapons of your liking. As well as some damaged armor, that you may attempt to repair, or leave it as it is.

Your Alley comments on the lack of Guards around, and peers out the shattered windows for any signs. They spot a nearby Church/Temple/Shrine. They explain that would be a likely spot to find other survivors, or even Guards. You make a break for it. As you reach the door you find that it is locked! They asked almost jokingly if you are any good with Locks? They turn, and point out a dead priest/monk/cultist, and tell you to search them for a key. You open the doors with either a key, or masterful Lock Picking skills.

Inside a elderly man is seen praying near a small shrine, or statue. After approaching him, and assuring him that you mean him no harm you ask if he knows if there are any exits. He tells you what he knows, also he explains his place is in the Church, and that his life he will gladly give for some deity. Before you leave your Ally looks to you. They say that you should pray to whatever stars that watch over you. You get to chose your Birth Sign. After which they say something along the lines of. "Really? Never would have guessed." They tell you their Birth Sign, and pray for a second then you move on.

What started out as me just saying Inn turned into that. Basically you traverse the ruined town doing small tasks along the way. Thus giving players the chance of messing with the Skills. At the end you find yourself outside of the town on the horizon, or some hill. Either with the remaining survivors, or alone with your Companion whom may have a deeper role. They compliment you saying you are the most capable "class name" they had ever seen. Thus opening up the Class options. I think it would be cooler then a Prisoner personally. Sorry I got a little carried away. :P

I hope there were "Other" option, because i want another option:

When in character generation phase, I want to be able to select a background, and depending on that background and other choices, I want to start the game in different places, who are more suitable for the background and the other choices.

So if you start the game as a nobleman's second son and a war veteran, it should be different from when you start a game as a merchant apprentice, and different from a slum dog cat purse.

The initial introductory quests should also differ for those different backgrounds.

Edit: The initial inventory, should also differ in those cases.

Well considering that, from the looks of it, they consider Novakiin to be their king, I'm going to bet it'll be in a nobleman's house.

Why does everyone want to be a prisoner or a felon from the get go? There are better ways to start off a game and keep it RP friendly. I'm sick of having to do hurdles when making a good character. I can only use the excuse of being framed so much, it seems as though everyone in TES spent time in jail.

In times of crisis, guards put random people in jail in the hope that one of them will break out and become a great hero that saves them all. Worked well so far.

This would be a dream come true.

Ever read those character histories it generates from your questions in Daggerfall? I've always wanted to play through the part where you set out from your home.

I kind of hope they would let you choose where and how to start off. I mean, it is an rpg after all...

Since there is a civil war going on in Skyrim, however, I would wager that the player begins the game as a prisoner of war, with facegen coinciding when the prisoner's hood is yanked off your face. Rather than a fancy prison, you'd probably be in some war camp, probably hostage to mercenaries who are debating to which faction would pay the most for your capture. Then you and your fellow prisoners escape somehow (a sudden, chaotic dragon attack?).

This has been my thoughts exactly since I watched the trailer.

When I've thought of this, I've imagined that you will start in a prison. Then, dragons will attack the city you're in. Either some kind of destruction cause you to be able to flee, or someone will free you, saying like "We need more troops, you, prisoner, come!".

What's what I think :)

PRISON FTW!! YEEHA!!

I can only use the excuse of being framed so much, it seems as though everyone in TES spent time in jail. Hell, by being in prison, we're instantly a felon. What a way to make up your past. And screw the whole "tradition" thing, that's not a reason! That's being lazy.

Okay, I'll make up some on the spot: getting in a shipwreck can work (done in TES:II), coming off a boat, waking up on the shore (no amnesia either).

dude, it's a game. make up your own past if you like.

Or maybe we should start alike in daggerfal when you had to go out from the dungeon (after killing monsters, and imp near the exit)

I actually liked the idea of being escorted between prisons and then having your escort being attacked and you being the only one to make it out alive.

Another possibility would be weaking up tied to something in some nord camp where you decide your character as the clansmen are checking wether you'd be best fit as a laboror or something else.

We can combine two of your options and start in a prison from which you escape when a dragon attacks the city and destroys the cell walls.

From the video I think number three but I just thought of the possibility of dragpns breaking the prison and thus lots of prisoners escaping.

not sure yet...but...none of the above. this is what i believe. i think beth's gonna do something different....but....they will not stray too far from tradition.

im gonna go with this...

...hm, i think one possibility could be our character passed out in the snow or mountains and is found by a traveler, and this is where we can start the character creation process.

they could help us up and see what race we are, different comments being made depending on what we choose, and we begin heading back to the person's cabin for safety, deciding on other details of our character along the way...

i think that could work, but thats just some random idea i came up with on the spot. :P

You wake up to a faint voice. You don't know what happened, but for some reason your hands are shackled and you're blindfolded. They walk in, you hear their footsteps. "What is it?" One of them says (queue character race menu). They take the blindfold off you, you're looking up at two nords. You appear to be in a dungeon, you hear tortured screams in the background. One of the nords walks over, grabs you, and pulls you up to stand. The other nord looks at you, as if to talk, but is abruptly interrupted by a loud bang. You hear men outside screaming and roaring. The two nords run to the aid of their kinsman, leaving you in an empty cell with the door wide open. Your hands are still in shackles, but you decide to flee anyway. As you get outside you see that there is a battle between two nordic tribes, you decide to take the easiest and most logical choice to run away from the action into a densely wooded area. As you run, you bump into a nord from the opposite tribe. "What were you doing there," he says, "are you a spy? Or an enemy warrior?" (queue character class menu). He doesn't seem to be an enemy, in fact he takes off your shackles and gives you a sword. "Run to the east until you reach our settlement," he says, "you'll be safe. There we can discuss what's going on."

Once you get to the camp, you're instructed to wait until later that night. Once it's night you meet the nord again, he tells you everything that's happening in Skyrim. He has an odd fascination with the stars. He constantly refers to his stars and whatnot. Then asks you, "I wonder, what stars were you born to?" (queue birthsign menu).

:P probably not gunna happen but a man can dream.

Yeah, I thought about that. Kind of like being thrown directly into Kvatch this time. Would be cool, but I don't see how we as a level 1 prisoner is supposed to fight of dragons though ;/

Well you gotta start in prison. Its the staple of the series. However, maybe like a Jack-Sparrow kind of thing where someone opens the door for you to help them, like help them open a shop-door for plundering. You go through the crowds of screaming people and fight of the invaders untill you get to the shop. You open the shop with SEcurity, and go in. Inside is a boss-like character that you have to kill. Once your done, the shop collapses on you and your ally, and you wake up in the smouldering ruin a while later.

Or you just walk of when he opens the door. I put way too much though into this
