Where will the game start

Post » Tue Dec 15, 2009 7:01 am

i think it will be a combination of the city getting attacked and prison because at this point that the game takes place skyrim is in a war. What could happen is we start in prison and the city looks like its going to get overrun so ethier...

option 1= a guard comes down and lets all of the prisoners out and you stay with them for protection and we will be a level one and we will svck. we wont even be able to kill an 80 year old woman so we will probably just stay with guards and they will be dying around us but the head guard will continue to usher us forward until we are out of the city.

option 2= similar to oblivion but with the city being attacked all of the prisoners in there are screaming to get out so a guard comes to get us before he unlocks the doors a bad guy (whoever we are suppose to be fighting) comes down and kills him the keys go near a prisoner the guy runs up stairs and leaves but locks the door behind him so we can't leave. prisoners hand the keys around to each other until we are last and then they give it to us and we are all free. and then idk someone finds a secret door in a cell or we all break down and old peice of wall in someones cel and we all go out together with some dying on the way in the cave we go out through.

im hoping option 2

Hm. Halfway through your option 2 I had inspiration

What if the guard is coming to let you out, when he egts killed by the bad-guy, and the bad guy takes you with him? I mean, a prisoner would be an ally against his captors.

The starting area shouldn't be too good. It shouldn't be a place you'd rather hang around in than start exploring the rest of the world.
That's why I think a prison or ruin of some sort would be a good idea.

How about you start in prison with the specific purpose of illegally entering a city. You could role play "oh, it was all a mistake, I didn't know the proper entering procedures", or you were doing it for more nefarious purposes.

"We're at war, boy/girl! We can't let any old person come in! Ever heard of spies or assassins?"

The tutorial could be New Vegas like, where you get let loose "on guard", can't leave the city, a number of small quests open up to give the player the ability to do the tutorial or skip through it, or he can "sleep until cleared" and skip the tutorial.

After dealing with customizing your character's appearance.

You are met by a the face of a woman, or man. Guard, or person of some other profession. You barely can make out their features due to the smoke. All you can tell is that they are removing rubble that has you pinned, the Inn you were residing in had collapsed. As they help you up they explain that the town is being evacuated due to an attack. Also that you will have to find something to defend yourself along the way. The Town is in ruins, nearly everything is ablaze.

As you both make a break for the Shop a crossed the Street, your companion is assaulted by a Raider, or perhaps a Dragonkin. After the attacker is dispatched you are ordered to grab the felled enemy's weapon quickly, and continue to the Alchemy Shop. Inside your comrade leans up against a wall that has yet to give way, they explained that they are wounded badly, and do not have any potions. At this point you can search for a Healing Potion or grab the conveniently place Mortar, and Pestle, and the herbs on a table, and make one. Both can be found, or you may use your Heal Other spell. After your Ally is healed they beckon you to follow them out the back door.

Out the back door you find yourself in a small alley way. Your Ally peers out into the nearby street. More of the attackers are marching down the street. Your Ally explains that you can wait them out, attack them, or try, and sneak pass them. Your choice. After you have passed them you find yourself placed by the Blacksmith shop where an Attacker happens to be. Apparently looking for some loot. Dispatch them however you like, and here you will have the option of finding some weapons of your liking. As well as some damaged armor, that you may attempt to repair, or leave it as it is.

Your Alley comments on the lack of Guards around, and peers out the shattered windows for any signs. They spot a nearby Church/Temple/Shrine. They explain that would be a likely spot to find other survivors, or even Guards. You make a break for it. As you reach the door you find that it is locked! They asked almost jokingly if you are any good with Locks? They turn, and point out a dead priest/monk/cultist, and tell you to search them for a key. You open the doors with either a key, or masterful Lock Picking skills.

Inside a elderly man is seen praying near a small shrine, or statue. After approaching him, and assuring him that you mean him no harm you ask if he knows if there are any exits. He tells you what he knows, also he explains his place is in the Church, and that his life he will gladly give for some deity. Before you leave your Ally looks to you. They say that you should pray to whatever stars that watch over you. You get to chose your Birth Sign. After which they say something along the lines of. "Really? Never would have guessed." They tell you their Birth Sign, and pray for a second then you move on.

What started out as me just saying Inn turned into that. Basically you traverse the ruined town doing small tasks along the way. Thus giving players the chance of messing with the Skills. At the end you find yourself outside of the town on the horizon, or some hill. Either with the remaining survivors, or alone with your Companion whom may have a deeper role. They compliment you saying you are the most capable "class name" they had ever seen. Thus opening up the Class options. I think it would be cooler then a Prisoner personally. Sorry I got a little carried away. :P

FREAKING AWESOME DUDE

Why not a shipwreck? I would like that.

A ship that was destined to go to Morrowind that was also carrying St. Jiub would be an excellent Easter Egg (albeit kinda obvious).

I was thinking of a prisoner ship (transport like morrowind), or a really big trade ship and you get locked in the hold (for unknown reasons, maybe you assaulted/killed someone) and then a ship wreck, where thetutorial revolves around getting to the nearest town.

I would like the idea of a city being attacked where you would be escorted out since it is set in a warlike time I think. Either way I don't think it's very important, prison like the other games is cool as well.

I like the idea of coming to the new world on a ship or as a foreigner. It doesn't really make sense to me that you are in jail, you get out and everything is new, nobody knows you, etc. What happened to your life before jail, you would think that you were already apart of some community inside the game world.

Probably in a prison or any kind of dungeon. That seems the norm for Elder Scrolls games.

Dude, I love starting in prison. I feel like a badass. I want to start there again, but I want to be able to choose my crime. Anything from murder of a village to art theft to 50 counts of loitering.

{snipped starter dungeon idea}

That would actually be pretty cool. Also if done right, it wouldn't take much more complex coding than the Oblivion starter needed.
