Where will the game start

Post » Tue Dec 15, 2009 1:13 am

Choices 2 and 4 I just threw out there. But choice 1 in both Morrowind and Oblivion you started in prison or you were just getting out of prison, but earlier I went to the official skyrim website and looked at the stone carving and on the left side it showed a city getting decimated by dragons and thats where I got choice 3 any other theories or just plain guess as to where you will start

I like starting off in prison. Gives much greater reward to choosing to either continue my unlawful ways or rise above them and become an epic hero. Also makes it easier to come up with my own backstory and have it fit.

Be kind of cool if we could break out by either benefiting from a riot or starting one ourselves. Little boring to simply be released, even if it is because the Elder Scrolls have labeled us a potential Nerevarine.

I kind of hope they would let you choose where and how to start off. I mean, it is an rpg after all...

Since there is a civil war going on in Skyrim, however, I would wager that the player begins the game as a prisoner of war, with facegen coinciding when the prisoner's hood is yanked off your face. Rather than a fancy prison, you'd probably be in some war camp, probably hostage to mercenaries who are debating to which faction would pay the most for your capture. Then you and your fellow prisoners escape somehow (a sudden, chaotic dragon attack?).

God, I am so freakin sick of the cliche prison starting point. A nobleman's home would be an interesting start. Perhaps you were summoned there for a purpose. Or another idea for a starting point is like the one in Daggerfall where you were shipwrecked. But screw the prison thing. I am fed to the teeth with that.

Why not a shipwreck? I would like that.
Thank you. I agree.

It'll probably have something to do with the dragons though, like one of them just happens to attack the prison you're in for some reason, and in the process, you just so happen to get lucky enough for your cell to get blasted apart - while you remain unharmed.

Okay, probably not, and just as well, because that would be lame. I really don't want the MQ being so in-your-face this time around. I want more subtlety, like Morrowind. Not that far, obviously, because we are dealing with blasted dragons here, not a crazy dude in a loin cloth hiding under a mountain, but more towards the Morrowind style than Oblivion's.

Out of those choices I picked prison but I personally would like a more simple start like your a traveller immigrating to skyrim and you can roleplay whatever you want (A traveller, moving away, fleeing from something or someone of your past, criminal on the run) the possibilities are endless really. I suppose the problem is how to get the player thrust into the main quest and I agree it shouldn't be so in your face as oblivion. It was just to 'whoa okay I don't really have a choice now do I?!' :|

There is a reason they start you out in prison, so you can forge your own past, not set one for you.

Maybe we're in a carrage getting transported between prisons when dragons attack trying to kill us and whilst their fighting the guards we run off into the forest

If not from an official prison then it will surely be from some kind of captivity.

Why does everyone want to be a prisoner or a felon from the get go? There are better ways to start off a game and keep it RP friendly. I'm sick of having to do hurdles when making a good character. I can only use the excuse of being framed so much, it seems as though everyone in TES spent time in jail. Hell, by being in prison, we're instantly a felon. What a way to make up your past. And screw the whole "tradition" thing, that's not a reason! That's being lazy.

Okay, I'll make up some on the spot: getting in a shipwreck can work (done in TES:II), coming off a boat, waking up on the shore (no amnesia either).

A prison/dungeon of some sort.

I'm voting a cave on the edge of the map where there's a mountain pass out of the province.

I hope it isn't necessarily a prison but just some form of captivity. Maybe you are just a prisoner for some bandits or a opposing force that is arresting citizens. I don't like that they just put you in jail, that implies you did something wrong, maybe your character wouldn't end up there in the first place.

I think it would be cool to start out in a tavern.

I'm not going to reveal my source, but I've been told by someone in the know that you wake up in a sleazy Inn on the border of Morrowind, in a tub filled with ice and missing a kidney. The main quest is to get your kidney back, which is actually the Sacred Kidney of Cromulent Embiggening, coveted by Dragons, Daedra, Aedra as well as mortals for it's ability to...well I won't spoil everything.

Suffice to say that as a Knight of Cromulent Embiggening and Protector of the Sacred Kidney, the storyline doesn't disappoint on any level.
