Where will you go first, and how will you get there?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:26 pm

As the title says, when you're first set loose in Skyrim, where will you go and how will you get there? Will you follow the main quest or just go off exploring? What I plan on doing is heading to the eastern border and seeing what kind of things there are along it. I'm expecting Dwemer ruins and maybe some small Argonian settlements. I also want to see how the volcanic tundra looks. After that I plan on following the northern coast until I get to Solitude, and only after that will I go exploring central Skyrim and maybe think about starting the main quest.

I will not start, or at least abandon the main quest asap.
where I go depends on where I start. Do we know that yet?

If the game starts off like Oblivion, I will go to the dungeon right outside the prison exit.

I'm probably going to go wherever the closest road leads. Try to find some cities/towns/settlements get some equipment built up. But this all depends on how the game starts (the starting that was announced is a little vague).

One things for sure though, I will NOT be using fast travel to get anywhere first.

I'll head straight for the eastern border and gaze longingly into Morrowind.

I'll do exactly what I did with Oblivion: heavily explore the first city I come across! That hurt me badly in Oblivion since the game doesn't see the difference between levels from combat skill and levels from non-combat skills and I ended up with level 3ish combat skills but enemies leveled to level 8+. If that holds true with Skyrim I might make an effort to engage in combat earlier.

How should I know.

They haven't told us anything about where we are starting or what we can do.

I shall head up to Riverwood (apparently its close to char creation area?) then over to Riften - explore it - hopefully join the College of Whispers or Synod if they are there, then head north up along the eastern border to Winterhold and pray the Ysmir collective and College of Winterhold are there.

Were ever the main quest guides me. And as mentioned above like in Oblivion I will walk/ride and rarely if ever use fast travel for my first game(main quest).

I am playing a pure thief first, and will be an urbanite.
So cities will be my thing, and I hope there is a transportation service between cities.

I'm going straight for High Hrothgar and I'm going to attempt to climb the 7,000 steps! Hopefully it's not blocked off somehow until you get to a certain point in the main quest

I will explore the wilderness and hunt deer and whatever animals i can find. becoming an expert marksmen with the bow. I will hopefully be able to create fires and cook my meals and also deploy a sleeping roll for night. Eventually I will stumble upon one of the settlements to turn in my collected fur and any spare items i dcavenged from bandits or deserted campgrounds. And thus the legend of Dovakhin well take off from there.

My character's going to be an Argonian so he'll be gazing lovingly into it too... but probably not for the reasons you will.

Not much to gaze at considering it will be a crater...

I will go wherever the wind blows me... literally. I never like doing the main quest until later on. Exploration is my friend, and I shall use it well in Skyrim just like Morrowind and Oblivion before!

No, it's not a crater. Vvardenfell's a crater, but mainland Morrowind is only overrun by Argonians. See, the situation isn't nearly as bad as being a crater. :P

I'll follow the Main Quest until I get a decent feel for the game. Then I'll probably start questing and exploring, with some guild work. Every now and then I'll work a bit on the MQ, but that won't ever be my focus.

So much better... It looks like Morrowind may need another Neravar incarnate...

I'll just set off, go in some random direction, and go wherever my road will lead me, Then I'll notice I entered a high level area, so I'll just run back as fast as I can and hide is the closest city's inn for about a week, looking under my bed to make sure the high lvl beast isn't there lol

Random direction into the wilderness, or the closest city.

I'm actually curious about how Bethesda may present the borders, visually, now. Hmm...

Hopefully better than Oblivion. I would actually like to see parts of Morrowind and parts of Cyrodill if possible. Of course, there may just be unclimbable mountains in the way like Oblivion, or an unending ocean.

The map seen in the video where Todd shows us around Bethesda's HQ said that the land near the Morrowind border is http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1158031-skyrim-map-discussion-2/page__view__findpost__p__16970309 so I assume they're trying to make the border realistic.
