The question is simple.

Depends on my character. For instance, my Nord Berzerker type would love the cave. My Dunmer assassin likes being in the city, hiding in plain sight among the crowds.

As did I. After all, the "only company" sounded like Awesome company to me. Especially the Serving girls. Also, I would have Daedric servants in my dominion. I might suggest that the poster offer wizards citadel as an alternative to the fortress, and still have the guards and serving girls (and Daedra), though I acknowledge that in the most generic terms, the two dwelling types amount to the same thing. . . more or less.

An icy cave in the mountains. Why buy food when you can hunt for free?

Same idea. Elite troop doesn't need to be human.

In a secluded, wintry forest, deep in the outskirts.

Eventually it will probably be the town with the nicest buyable house, in OB I prefer the Bruma house so may well be spoilt for choice, but all else being equal, as near as possible to the Bard's College.

Can we have the option to choose multiple options?

A log cabin in the woods or tundra, or a tent in the wilderness would suit me just fine...

other, windhelm, or whiterun...(or solitude...) I guess it would be "In the middle of the most populated city" but it would be one of those three, and im not sure yet, and it's most likely either windhelm or whiterun, (if whiterun isn't on the imperial side) because I will most likely be favorable towards the rebels (if I can in any point in the game...) though I may stay in soilitude, because of the bard's college, but that is a small factor, seeing as it is the imperial capital in Skyrim. So most likely it would either be Windhelm, or Whiterun (that is, as I said before, if Whiterun isn't on the side of the imperials...)

I also guess it would depend on my character. Probably one character would like what I posted above. My next would like a "House in a common town." and another, might like "The room of an inn along a useful trading route." So I guess it just depends on which character I choose to role play...

I'm not sure, either a large town like Riften in the wilderness, or a major city like Solitude.

I usually have more than one home in Oblivion so it's probably a few of those on the list. I like to live outside a big city but not too far outside so I can have easy access to shops and services.

As long as hunting is sustainable and useful I would like a small forest shack with awesome views over a vast valley. However if houses just behave in the same way as in Oblivion where they are only useful for displaying items and storage the central town house works for me as it gives me the best access to traders.

A small log cabin that can be destroyed in seconds by an angry giant.

I would like a choice but when pushed the castle.

I want to be able to live in low-cost housing or a cave early on and then once I think my character is suitable, become the lord of a manor/castle.

Allows for lots of character progression and gives you something to aim for.

Naturally, a castle should cost a hell of a lot, either through work or through money.

I want a fortified stronghold, but my only company would be hordes of undead.... the women can stay alive though.

I like to be on my own in a very nice secluded log cabin in the forest or mountains. Great thing about having a PC is that I can have a house wherever I want with mods :]
