Major cities, industrial centres, military installations, ports.

Should put topics like this in the Fallout Universe Section.

Prime Targets. Enemy missile sites, Military bases, research areas, communications, anything the enemy would use to counter attack you with. Next would be major cities/population centers. Then anything else you can think of because once nukes start flying everyone will launch. America alone has enough nukes to destroy the world many times over.

DC would be a glass pit or radiation. After that, capitals, population centers, and strategic military sites. Though if someone were planning to rule over the world after the fact they would take into consideration resources needed and not necessarily bomb important places, such as farmland, dig sites, etc

In a general first strike, barring other goals/motivations other than eliminating the enemy military capability, my guess at priority targets would be:

#1 Military command/control facilities (in the US that'd be the Pentagon, White House, Cheyenne Mountain, etc.) as well as current locations of key political and military leaders (joint chiefs, Pres., VP, Sec. State, Sec Defense, but not Sec of Interior, etc.)
#2 Nuclear strike facilities. That means airfields for strategic nuclear strike aircraft, carriers, missile silos and whatever subs you can find. Also nuclear STORAGE facilities.
#3 Other military airfields, especially those devoted to strike aircraft.
#4 Bases/concentrations of mechanized ground forces (tanks, APC's, armored fighting vehicles)
#5 Military transport aircraft and facilities.
#6 Military transport ships and facilities.
#7 Remaining military bases/concentrations of troops and ground-support aircraft.
#8 Enemy transport infrastructure such as roads, rail lines (especially bridges and crossings of large rivers, canyons, other unpassable terrain), commercial airports,

Beyond that I'd think it really depends on your political/ideological goals as to what you'd want to target and why.

snip

Pretty much this.

The primary targets of nuclear strikes would be miltitary installations, especially nuclear silos (take out the enemies capability to hit you back). Any civilian targets such as cities would only be targeted as a secondary objective, or as primary targets if they contained military installations or other high-prority targets (such as DC).

Typical nukes don't actually hit. It's with great thuds that duds do hit. And with each hit, there sits a pit. It's then to late to say, "Oh ******!" OK, away with that Dr Sluce bit. I'll stop before I start to skit, which illustrates my PC grit and begs a pardon from those who writ.

Enjoy the warmth of Atom's glow, even though it makes one slow. The light cascades from up above and melts our hearts with radiant love. :shocking:

Answer: My house. That's where they always end up. I just can't turn them away. It's not easy being a nuke. :run:
