Where do your character's names come from?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 8:07 pm

I'm a Dungeons & Dragons player so I came up with my Khajiit's name from the cat-folk's language in Races of the Wild expansion book. I named my character Azhera Renmar. Any thoughts?

My current character's name is Lunia Skye. I usually come up with a name that best suits how they look.

Turlandio Cousland. Turlandio is something I simply concocted one day while I was reading a book and it appears to be unique (every Google result for "turlandio" is, in fact, me). Cousland is last name of the Human Noble background in Dragon Age: Origins. I adopted it as a reminder that it is one of my favorite games of all time.

If I am playing Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age origins and If I am playing a human I generally go with medieval names-- either Celtic, English or Welch; and sometimes French. If I am playing an Elf of any kind I generally go with http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/elvish/girlnames.html.

Current main is named Kazin, after a character from Shining Force II. While the English names of characters from that game were far from original, it was the first tactical RPG that left a strong impression on me when I was a kid, so every once in awhile I'll name a character out of something from that game.

My current hero a high elf Elrik, after the books Elric the Enchanter by Mike Moorcock. I had a heroine Rosalind taken from the THQ game Summoner. http://youtu.be/Y47UZpp76Eo

My Argonian named Zhul-jin: Troll from Warcraft. Troll culture and Argonian culture seem simular to me..

My Breton named Mordred: Arthurian Myth. The Son of King Arthur, and he was like a battlemage of sorts himself seeing how he learned sorcery from his mother, Morgan LaFey, but was trained as a knight as well.

A favourite of mine is Beatriz Portinari. Although I rarely use the lastname, or tend to substitute it with something a bit more impressive. Its symbolism for me stems from a very old book I read what seems now an age ago.

If the player character is a male, one of my favorites usually is Dalamar Argent. Much more fitting for this fantasy setting, I suppose.

My Breton's name is Riden. If you assign a number to each letter to the Alphabet, ie: A = 1, B = 2..., the value of Riden = 18, 9, 4, 5, 14. Add them together and you get: 50.

Yeah, I used mathematics to make a name. Me and my friends back in Elementary and Middle School used that simple code for a basis for making our own, unique cipher code. So I wanted a simple name, short with not many characters. Multiples of 5 are great for me as it represents a lot of things.

1. Number of States in the U.S: 50
2. Hawaii being the 50th State
3. 5th Grade was the year I got my act together and started to excel in studies
4. Every number on a clock are intervals of 5
5. Squaring numbers that end with 5 is super easy to do mental math
6. There are 5 legit reasons why the number "5" is awesome

I am playing all orcs now, so i just get creative, something that usually starts with Bor, or Gro, or something along those lines, and use something orcish afterwards, like my current character, Bor'Knam,

My Orc - warrior/mage - Name: Talon. Named him after the current big villain in the Batman comic.

My Imperial - warrior - Name: Odvakhaan Shock-Hammer. I just made it up, wanted him to have a Skyrim-ish name.

My High Elf - mage - Name: Kain Worl-Reaver. Was supposed to be WorlD-Reaver, but I typoed. His name is based on Kain from the Blood Omen/Legacy of Kain games.

I tend to get my names out of Lord of the rings(in back of book list of people and names). How many people give their character a first name and a last name?

Im not a lore nut, but im very picky about how i name my characters. If there race tends not to have surnames, then i dont give them one. I also hate naming my character only to find the name is already used. Had a Nord named Hrondmir Hair-Splitter, a breton named Matthieu Cirnand, and an imperial named Junius Mateius
