Definitely the Mechanist's Forge; big bed, lots of storage and a workbench.

you could use the mechanist hideout at the the robot repair center i live there on some playthroughs, its a good size room with a secret entrance or elevator entrance, lit up, safe, easy acces fast travel with no enemies around, work bench, lots of storage including a fridge. its prob the best place to live besides megaton or tenpenny tower, but you could live at the rileys rangers compond, or one of the outcast bases, or even the citadel, sometimes i live in rivet city. or there is even a place near megaton and the sewer waystation fast travel spot, its a talon camp inside a building with lots of area inside and storage, its not an easy spot to notice initially.

:nerd: sure, if you fast travel to the sewer waystation near megaton, face in the general direction of megaton then a bit to the left its about 100 yards away from the sewer waystation its a door off the groud by about 5 or 6 feet with some metal steps leading up to the door, its a building in between a couple other buildings, its not too far off. kinda follow along the freeway toward the raiders with the mole rats, its not too far from that spot.

very easily, either rent the hotel room and its your for the game, the door stays unlocked and it says "your bed" also you can live up close to the bridge where the guards live, there is a bed and lockers there, also in the common room if you wanted, there is a bed there too with a locker, but i live in the hotel room, i have played the entire game a couple times living in rivet city in that hotel room. its a change of pace from megaton.

I prefer hanging my hat in Megaton but that house is so limited. I was considering that Talon Company camp/house near Grayditch but it doesn't have a fridge or a workbench in it. Plenty of storage though (3 cabinets, 4 footlockers, 3 ammo boxes.) Have to get the corpses of its former inhabitants out of it though the stink is going to draw radroaches and bloatflies sooner or later.

My house in Meg. At least, that's where I stash my gear.

The rest of the time I'm out in the wastes stoked up on jet or moving too fast.

at early levels when doing megaton quests, I use nice house at sprinfield ruins after killing that junkie..dont remember name..
Later TP tower..I like the luxury.

in PL I used that motel room which was HQ for chinese spy..I dont mind corpses.

BUT I know what you should not use..Outcast outpost where is anchorage DLC simulator located.
I remember looting that place and used that elevator up and down many times..after a while it stopped working!
good thing was I had a save before bug so i could grab all and dump them temporarily outside of outpost.

I don't know but I still find my house in Megaton cosy enough. No need to camp anywhere else.

I have been living at the Super Duper Mart. I'm early in the game and this looked like the only half decent place to store my stuff. Living out of the cozy mens room and sleeping on the blood stained mattresses is not ideal, but it works. I haven't had anything stolen yet. I finished the mechanist - antagonizer quest but never found the mechanists forge. Should I go back and kill him to set up camp?

I like living in the metros, feels more survival-ly. especially the ones in the heart of D.C.
