skyrim is 200 years after oblivion while the infernal city takes place 40 or 50 years after so i don't think it will have anything to do with the story at all.

I hope the events of the book will be acknowledged in NPC conversation or in-game books

But I don't expect it to have a bearing on the plot

Maybe you'll find a book that mentions it, don't expect much else though.

Maybe the book itself will be in Skyrim?
I know certain events mentioned in the book are considered lore by Skyrim. Such as the destruction Vvardenfell and the Argonian revolution.

My guess is the Infernal City gets destroyed in Lord of Souls and has something to do with sowing the seeds for Alduin and the Dragons to appear.

Why was it a Book and not a DLC, it would've fit perfectly in the Anniversary of Oblivion, only way to get More Money out of People with the Same Broken Oblivion Game. :teehee:

I think Infernal City would have svcked as a DLC.

I liked the chapters set on Tamriel, but the chapters set on the Infernal City were too Alice-In-Wonderland-ish for my tastes. I'm hoping Lord of Souls doesn't spend too much time in that setting.

I don't know if this event though it is a disaster it doesn't feel like a prophetic event such as the return of the Nerevarine and the closing of the Oblivion gates. What I mean to say is that it feels like a closed event.
*Spoiler Alert*
Although there was some forshadowing in the Clavicus Vile daedric quest, Umbra was just a really powerful spellsword that was trapped in his sword for whatever reason. Once released he created all sorts of hell for Vile and took a portion of his realm for himself. He then managed to get out with it onto Nirn. Thus the floating city Umbriel.
*End Spoiler*
I'm pretty sure that in the Lord of Souls he'll be thwarted trapped once again in the sword and lost within Tamriel for a hapless victim to discover. The city itself will crash somewhere in Cyrodiil or be returned to Viles realm.

Considering that the second book releases in less than 2 months and Bethesda has not even acknowledged its existence I doubt if there is even a single reference to the books in Skyrim. Just a hunch but I don't think Bethesda was happy with either the books or the reception of the first book.

I don't think it was bad. I don't think it was good either. It was ok. There is still the potential that the events of the second book will have an effect on the province of Skyrim somehow, but I doubt it. I don't think Bethesda wants the books to interfere with the games. Just as a holdover for the hardcoe fans because the games take so long to make.

This.

An ok book that serves as an excellent appetizer for the game. My favorite part of the book was the brief descriptions of Black Marsh and Argonians.

Most certainly some dark elf somewhere will talk about the destruction of Vvardenfell. If not that would be a mistake on Bethesda's part.

I'm sure much will be talked about, or written about.

Perhaps because many fans actually enjoy reading novels based on their favorite games? You will find novels based on many popular games including Dragon Age, Mass Effect, BioShock, Assassin's Creed, Deus Ex, Gears of War, Fable, Crysis and Halo. And as BootySweat said, it would have been a terrible DLC, The Infernal City is too large and ambitious for that. At the very least, it would need to be an expansion pack like Bloodmoon or Shivering Isles, and even then, it would have been a completely different experience. Games and books is 2 different storytelling mediums after all.

I don't think Bethesda wants the books to interfere with the games.

Then why release a book in the first place? I would expect the game to have, at the very least, a few references to the events in the novels. But i agree, the novel was not particular good, but it wasn't exactly bad either.

There will probs be a book in the game about it, I doubt npcs will discuss it. Like how no one these days talks about the invention of the locomotive, or the Zulu wars in South Africa.

I have not yet bought or read The Infernal City yet, so I was wondering if it is worth it to buy the book before the sequel comes out, or buy both of them together when they are both out. If anyone could tell me what I should do that would be awesome.

True, but Umbriel is a flying city, which can turn everyone around it into mindless drones. An invasion like that will probably be talked about for a while afterwards even if it's only a story told by someone in an inn.
People spoke about the Nerevarine in Oblivion. I'll bet they'll speak about the Oblivion Crisis and Umbriel in Skyrim.

who even knows what the empire will be like 200 years after oblivion. For all we know the skyrim folk might view the oblivion crisis as myth :P
