Which Aedra became what?

Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 8:25 am

When the world was created, and the Aedra gave (of) themselves to create it, which Aedra became what?

It's obvious that Kynareth became the wind, but the others?
Say, Stendarr, for example. Did he become mercy? Would mercy not exist without him?

http://www.imperial-library.info/nine_divines/ and http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/varietiesoffaith.shtml should cover your first qeustion.

It's generally assumed that the et'Ada are their sphere and that there is no difference between the 'concept of' and the actual et'Ada. Although though this does have its' problems, it seems to be how things work most of the time.

I read those, but I still don't get it, really. Without Zenithar there would have been no work or commerce?

I'm not getting it.

Mankar Camoran would call the Aedra "shadows" of first causes.

Effectively, he says that the Divines rule over things that really don't matter; cheap knock-offs of the important Spheres, such as Fate, Night and Fear.

(But then again, he didn't go toe to toe with my boss, Julianos either. Oh, what a tail thumpin' that would of been. And Brian S, if you say something about Mankar being "talked to death".....you'll be off my Christmas Card list. :nono:)

Yes as there is no difference. The other way around it's better understandable, without the concept of work and commerce and everything related there would be no Zenithar. You'll might want to read about Plato's cave though.

TWM:

You might want to skip over the change of the Aedra's nature after the creation of Mundus for now, this is slightly more fundamental.

Well, OK then. It just sounded so weird. But you know: If it's weird, it's TES lore.

Well in Knights of the Nine, Stendarr is called the god of mercy, you know, right after it's revealed that he cursed Sir Casimir and all of his descendants, despite the fact that the only one that actually killed a beggar was Casimir.

All your ranking means is that you have a higher post count. Big deal. And it was stated in Knights of the Nine that Stendarr was the god of Mercy, I don't know if that's a retcon or not, I'm just saying that's what it said.

He's been the god of mercy since ever. He's actually the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:DavidVanDriessen.jpg of the Nine Divines.

He also has a big hammer.

The Altmer Monomyth presents the Aurbis as a mind, where the et'Ada are the concepts in it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noumenon). This means that there is no difference between the concept as such it exists in your mind and the God that embodies it.

This is quite different from something like a Thunder God who is somebody who exerts control over the physical thunder but doesn't touch on the thunder as it exists as the concept in your mind.
