Yeah, but he seems to have gone further to the other side of the original BoS.
The originals (from FO1 and 2) were more or less a bunch of highly skilled and dangerous recluses. They didn't really go outside much except to scavenge tech.
This "new" faction is much more aggressive.
The Capital Wasteland faction of FO3 was also more aggressive, but were doing that to help other people outside the brotherhood.
These guys are just doing it to become a powerbase and to "cleanse the wasteland", more or less.
Not really. Father Elijah was exiled for wanting to mess with new tech. And Veronica says the Mojave Brotherhood are dying a slow death because they can't keep up with the times and they're outnumbered 20:1 by the NCR.
Maxson is a little of the old Brotherhood and new Brotherhood taken to 11. It becomes a who watches the watchmen sort of situation. At some point you're no longer protecting humanity from dangerous technology, but you're actively stifling it from recovering from the Great War and evolving. The Enclave and Institute prove that the Brotherhood is needed, but I think they've started to overstep their role. The Brotherhood is all military. If their Scribes functioned more like emissaries and diplomats instead of anthrotechnological eggheads the Brotherhood would be better off.
The fairytale white knights of honour, melodrama and stuff.
They have obviously retained the doctrine of recruiting from wastelanders though, which is stricky against mainstream BOS teachings......so its Lyons' BOS under new management (at least this detachment, I'm not sure if its stated whether they are a detachment of the Lyons' BOS or all of the Eastern BOS) with a more hardline mandate for protecting the East Coast.
In some ways they are more like the Midwestern BOS was in Tactics, still tech horders but expansionist with it minus the conscription of the MWBOS.
It's not the tech-hoarding dogma that's killing the Brotherhood but the "No helping outsiders/no accepting outside recruits" dogma.
Even then, seems like this Brotherhood doesn't lean too far to the "Tech-Hoarding" part. They don't seem to demand that you hand over a suit of PA or any energy weapons that you may carry. Granted, they weren't in that position to deal with at the start, but they seem to be more focused on hoarding advanced pre-war tech that a scavver can't use for anything but parts, or anything that'd be important enough to warrant taking away for the safety of others. A random waster with PA probably isn't *too* high on the list of things to harrass them about, but a random waster carrying the targeting device for a kill-sat might be.
Yeah, they are very much like the MWBoS - Their expansionist and tech-hoarding ideals, the airship, and conscription of wastelanders
Not witchcraft... science.
I mean; they have a point though. Humanity blew the world up with nuclear bombs. And they're still squabbling for scraps so they haven't learned much. I think they're taking that point and going too far with it. Can't stifle progress either.
Also as I wrote earlier the are recuiting volunteers rather than conscripting, MWBos was pretty much "nice village, it would be a shame if it were destroyed......want to contribute some bodies to the cause?" Those conscripts were then given live fire training which killed off the majority until the were considered trained enough to become initiates and equipped with leather armour and junk weapons.
Maxson's BOS seems to be well experienced at getting volunteers and training them up without scaring away the locals through excessive losses.
Fascists that think only humans matter basically. With no regard as to wherever mutants can be good or not. At least when it comes to the leader.
I would have much preferred some "This is why mutants can be good too" dialog and such. Beyond that one synth quest. Bigger, on a grander scale. Public. Main plot related. Etc. Really make things grey for them. They need knocking down a peg or two in that regard.
How quickly people forget that the Capital Wasteland chapter had those exact same doctrines, and shot at non-feral ghouls on sight.
Which is why I'm very disappointed that the elder promotes you to Knight and quite literary gives you the good power armor on the spot just because of a good recommendation without having to prove yourself to him. As if the coming across the older set with a minigun early on wasn't enough.
I mean, what if I'm a spy? Oh wait... I was. See what I mean? XD
Seriously though, stop throwing good stuff at me at every corner. It feels cheap when I haven't earned it.
Heh, yes, but I think by the time all hell rained down, pretty much everyone in the world knew it was inevitable.
Plus, read your terminals and such. He was nervous because he thought maybe your character was on to them.
